Have appreciated your videos since you began this journey, Rino! I do very much enjoy the cultural-focused videos such as this one. They help give a “feel” for the area which is super-helpful to those of us who’ve not yet been fortunate to visit Abruzzo in person. Abruzzo is the only region that I’ve not visited where we are seriously considering purchasing property and retiring to, and you and your videos are the primary reason why. Grazie mille, come sempre!
Thank you for supporting the channel since the beginning, I appreciate it a lot!! I'm glad I increased your interest in the region and hopefully you decide to retire here :)
I have been watching your videos almost from the beginning, but this is the first time I'm commenting. Your content lately had been really good. I liked the videos you did about "la casa della tua nonna". I find today's installment very interesting, too. I like the way Italy takes pride in its cuisine and, above all, the freshness and seasonality of the ingredients; however, I can understand your perspective. In terms of future content, I suggest you keep it varied. There is still much about Abruzzo that many of us don't know. You did a video over a year ago about a specialty liquore that was made in a small town. Are there other special things (food, pottery, whatever)? How are things different with the onset of autumn and winter fast approaching? Reno, keep up the good work on both of your channels!
The pellino factory that produces the almond sweets in Sulmona. The montepulciano d'abruzzo wine. There is a famous town that produces traditional pottery. With lots of workshops producing hand painted Potter.
I love those types of videos too.... Rino, you know I'd love for you to make a video of Leanne with the Cats of Abruzzo cat sanctuary 😅. But in the same area, Francesca with Cantina Margiotta (Pratola Peligna) would be great to interview as well.
Thanks for your words, I appreciate the time taken to comment. I'm trying to diversify content even though I know not many people are interested in a variety of topics, I still plan to continue regardless. I know that normally video tours are what interest subscribers the most but I suppose an occasional extra video won't be too bad!
Definitely a video in some cantina would be amazing to film, but as usual, time is always a problem, I will definitely try to attempt something else. I'm trying to improve the storytelling as well, but it's kinda difficult :D
I plan on retiring in Italy and likely not in a major city. My biggest concern isn’t the pride for Italian food, (I love it!) it’s the lack of food diversity. In Chicago, I am very spoiled and within a 5 minute walk I can get Japanese, Thai, Mexican , American, Italian, Chinese, French, etc. We may not be the best at any one, but overall I would rate our food very high and extremely accessible.
Loved this video! We love Italian food and appreciate that it is a source of national pride. Great salami, cheese and wine are the main reasons why my husband (a former chef) wants to move there. Thank you for being honest about the trash situation, although for us it looks very clean in all the videos, especially compared to Costa Rica which is a country of amazing natural beauty but we always seem to be picking up trash along our country roads. We also love your content. The video on your nonna's home brought tears to our eyes too. Keep up the great job! Hope to see you in Abruzzo soon.
Hi!! Indeed, generally it's pretty clean, most trash is outside the town but it's still annoying, things have greatly improved over the years so I think the cultural change is happening, for the best! House of nonna is still a project and I will continue the series, but things have been slow with the renovation quotes, hopefully I can get something in the next 2 weeks. :)
Public transportation is our primary consideration when purchasing a home. It is not that we are opposed to driving, but rather that we anticipate difficulties in obtaining a driver's license due to the time required to become proficient in Italian. We have heard that even native speakers find the driving test challenging. Therefore, we would prefer to focus on properties that are within walking distance of amenities or at least a bus stop.
@@yusufabukaarmen270 My understanding is that you can drive on your international license for 1 year only. This is the same international license that you'd use for renting a car when you visit.
Every country has its strengths and weaknesses. We feel that Italys greatest strength is its people. You have just shown that in this video. The honesty and openess of people like you are the reason we keep coming back. The food is fantastic also!
I appreciate your perspectives Rino! I am a child of the '60's so your peace sign resonates. Also, you probably are aware of Ringo Starr and his peace and love emphasis!
The food arrogance doesn't really bother me as it is just pride in your own country. We adjusted quickly to not having a cappuccino after 11, but we can make our own cappuccino at home if we really need it. Anyway, it is kind of fun to get a quick shot of espresso at a bar in the afternoon! I do wish the restaurants opened a little earlier for dinner, however.
L😅ve you 😅information. You know many of your followers are interested in purchasing property. If you can do a video about renovation costs it would be great. For example when you video a property that had been renovated what did it cost to paint, replastet, replace windows and doors, etc. thank you Rino.
In America, it's against the law to litter. Usually a substantial fine. But since they have to catch you, we still have a problem so they have prisoners pick it up. Can you please talk about the realities of rent to own properties?
Interesting, Rino---you bring up some things I hadn't thought of really. If I were an eating out sort, I'd miss the kind of wide choices of cuisine we have in many, many US cities...but I'm not, and was raised on a Mediterranean diet. LOVE shopping and cooking when I'm in Italy. I found Abruzzo really very clean and well kept everywhere I went there. I hear that Penne has more going on in the arts than most towns in Abruzzo, che ne pensi?
Love your honesty! As a foreigner, I'd still say Napoletano pizza IS the best.... But having grown up on St Louis style pizza (and I still love it as well 😅), I enjoy pizza in all of its forms. Agree about the restaurants and their timing. We have a tendency when we're in Italy to get distracted and miss the official lunch time. Thankfully there's usually kebab!
Hi Rino - it was interesting to hear your list of dislikes about Italy. I think many of your viewers would swap these for the problems they have at home! Italy has a great sense of identity, it doesn't trash its own history and culture - and of course it is a very beautiful country. It may have a frustrating bureaucracy and some funny rules about coffee but I can forgive all that! And I'm sure in your heart you know that Italy is much loved and you are very blessed to live there. I think that occasional videos talking about aspects of life in Italy will be interesting and helpful for your viewers too. Best regards
Hi Steve, thanks for the comment and I appreciate your perspective, of course mine is biased by being Italian but I wanted to try and share my thoughts anyway :) Coffee rules are the issue here, eheheh
I thought it will be doom and gloom and I'll despise this video. I still kinda do, apart from the food part which I agree 100%. I've been abroad too and frankly they are more civil but they also kind of shut in (Germany). Also the north, including Trentino: you can still find the idiot that throw trash from his car, just less then the south. We're just very uneducated country in general, and that's the thing you should talk about in this video. All heart, nice and whatnot but still clueless on how the world is going on.
hi!!! Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I hope you didn't despise it too much in the end :D I tried to offer different perspective compared to the other videos I find on youtube!

It will indeed be an issue, I resolved it by cooking things myself :D

You want to see bad public transportation, visit us here in Phoenix AZ. The absolute worst.
ahahah, I try to aim for the best, Berlin, Paris, London. But yeah, I then realize I live in a relatively rural region :)

I wonder if you can just drive with an international license for a first year of a residency visa? These work fine while on tourist visas...

definitely, now with the kids I kinda wish I could just walk in in a restaurant at whatever o'clock time!

I agree. I would also be interested in the costs of renovations
It's in the making but takes long! It will be a series in the channel ;)
@ great we‘re waiting for it to

Hi, not very popular in Italy so I haven't explored the topic, will think about this!
You are very honest thank you ❤️
My pleasure 😊

I hear that Penne has more going on in the arts than most towns in Abruzzo, che ne pensi?
Hi! Penne is definitely better than other smaller towns, lots going on even though it's still not comparable to cities.
How do you imagine the future of Italy in terms of demographics, ie. which regions will be the most resilient?
Love your honesty! As a foreigner, I'd still say Napoletano pizza IS the best.... But having grown up on St Louis style pizza (and I still love it as well 😅), I enjoy pizza in all of its forms. ahahah, I personally prefer the Napolitan style too, but to be fair I like the diversity, so some time I might crave a different style.

US pizzas suck.
