Even though I'm not as big of a fan of the whole 'Gangster Mob' aesthetic, I do like how MTG can cover all sorts of genres to the point where fans with different tastes, new and old, can find something that will eventually draw them back
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it. Yours is a channel I've always admired for creative narration and the ability to weave a story - a passion I share. Would love to connect sometime
I didn't know the story of New Capenna so thank you. I was getting some Amohket and Ravnica vibes. Since on Amohket all the denizens lived in one enclosure because of some world ending threat that happened in the distant past and obviously Ravnica being one massive city. Though while it is interesting that this plane fits in with an overarching story in the Multiverse with the throughline being Phyrexians, I kind of wish it was completely separate from any other storyline. The Gatewatch and their story dominated multiple sets with the Eldrazi and Nicol Bolas being two separate threats they helped defeat and now Phyrexians are back and will seemingly be the next big bad to bring down. I do love Phyrexians and I'm happy to see more of them but I wonder who or what will be the next existential threat to the multiverse. Slivers maybe? Corporate greed? Who knows!
I think it'd be really cool to see an Old Capenna before/as phyrexia invaded. Or maybe focus on the nomads surviving beyond the borders of the new city. Or even the return of the angels. The plane has a lot of potential
Exactly! Capenna is much much bigger and a lot has to be discovered in a future visit of this plane. That would be very cool, because it would be very interesting to see old capenna or something else of the plane. There‘s a lot of potential, as you say! I hope, we will return to Capenna one day!
Dude I've dropped 4 digits into buying this set and I'm not done til I have everything. Every card, every version, this set is so gorgeous I love it so much. Mirrodin will always be my baby, but this is beautiful.
As a MAJOR fan of the Noire genre and an MTG player/Commander player, I ADORE this Set(*and am sad that it's only for 1 block*) just for the Flavor alone. This is just an awesome lore video, thank you for it...As for Family? I'm Riveters
What I like about the Riveteers is that they all look like the old Chicago worker classes. Kinda reminds me of the old Tom and Jerry characters too for some reason
I'm mainly Riveteer, second Maestros. Riveteer speak to me from a personal level as I am a worker who got screwed over MANY times. Somehow I wished I was part of a group that I could simply say "Yo, boys. That dude didn't payed me for my job and is now trying to legally defend that it was his own work all along... Let's break his kneecaps"
Another amazing video, I love this channel! I would choose the Maestros because I like Xander. But, in reality, I love the whole set, the Art Deco style is great. This set (and NEO) finally made me return to paper Magic after years. I was getting bored of another flavor of magical fantasy setting but this last 2 sets have been a breath of fresh air, I hope we get to see more of this techno-magic settings in future sets!
Appreciate it! And yes, I think this set really encapsulated a unique design and feel quite well. I personally like the high fantasy settings, but sets like capenna and neo add creative spice that keeps things interesting. And I'm a riveteer through and through
Really glad to hear someone else understands the fatigue with purely magical fantasy setting after purely magical fantasy setting 😅 my favorite settings are the ones that aren't just another flavor of that. Only got into magic a few years ago but it's been especially fun lately, especially with the lore (now that it's getting good again, it seems)
As a Star Wars fan and Italian, I was immediately intrigued by the environment and the names of this set. Getting into the mechanics I like it even more. Building a Brokers themed deck now with 2x of Kasmina, Teferi and Tamyo. It runs smoothly, the enchantment that gives both +1 +1 and loyalty counters to the whole board is just great, and Falco Spara is really on spot with his effects. Behold the multiverse for draw. Negate, see it coming and quandrix commando to counter and control. The 2/1 double strike beaters with the shield counter gives the opponent pressure as they grow the body with the counters. It’s weak against fast decks, but it shines against midrange and control decks.
A large amount of the imagery is based off of the 1920's-1930's "Art Deco" movement (*especially in regards to the Alt Art Land's*). Note that 90-99 percent of the Creature art has them dressed in the same type of era clothing (*flowing dresses, Flapper outfits, Zoot suits, three-piece suit & ties, basically anything you'd see old Gangster movies*), it's a VERY nice touch and Easter Egg...
I am loving this channel more and more with every video you publish! The comparison between New Capenna and Ravnica sprang to my mind as soon as we learnt something about the set! Keep up the good work!
@@TheLorebrarians i loved it, as always! I have to say, I avoid all information about the sets just to hear it from you spoiler free! Cabaretti best family, being Italian I love the way they try to sound italianish 😂
I would either with the Brokers or the Obscura. ThecObcura are most likely to first know if something bad is going down, but the Brokers are already prepared for something bad.
Well thank you! I'm not sure I can answer that, but there are dozens of mistakes and mispronunciations that get edited out. Just keep practing and it helps immensely to have a good script to go from!
I love the 1920s themes of new capenna, I am very much going to make a DnD campaign set in a city with similar themes to new Capenna. Various crime familes who effectively control the streets of the city, each controlling a different aspect of the society/ industry
Big fan of the channel I know that the phyrexian videos are already in production and am really excited. I would likely find myself in the riveters just because building things and destroying others sounds fun
I haven't quite warmed up to this set yet. Seems too modern for me and less magic, especially coming straight after another modern tech set. But I'll give it some time. Wondering if you have considered a video about Elspeth. Looks like she'll be central to the upcoming story. A history of her like your Liliana video would be grand!
is anyone else tired of these one set blocks on brand new planes? there's so much new stuff going on here that we're not even given time to figure out what's going on before the next set is coming out. I mean, I can't even tell you what was going on in Kaldheim...
@@TheLorebrarians I distinctly remember getting a fat pack from each of the Scars of Mirrodin sets so I could get the booklet explaining all the players and the story so far... Also, I feel like that set's story was extremely good.
Great video. - personally i dislike the set´s flavour and asthetics. it is one more in a year of magic focused on a few elements i dislike in the game, namely artifacts. - new capena and this video shows there is limited space to explore within mtg´s colour pie and city scenarios. sure you have a focus on verticality but it isnt like Ravnica doesnt have that. just look at the art. having 5 ruling houses also is a wrong choice. with a mechanic focused on citizens and modern flavour why not have the city/nation be a democracy with a single government? ooverall the similarities with Ravnica and other planes are too much beyond confortable.

I just preordered the 40k commander decks, lol, good point
I'm a sucker for Art Deco architecture, never thought I'd see it in Magic
Gangster Mob asthetic is SO cool ❤!! I'm so happy MTG has something for everybody!
your videos are so excellent. thank you for putting these together - they're a wonderful and informative watch.

just did a thematic cube with this set, so stylish!
Pleeeaaaaase do one about the Phyrexians. I have no clue, why they are so powerful and fascinating at the same time :)
A video for Yawgmoth and one for phyrexia are already in the works!
They are the best looking monsters, mostly, in mtg.

Thank you for bring clarity to what is happening on that plane. Your job is great as always.
Appreciate it, and happy to hear the information is helpful!
We should return here to heal the plane after New Phyrexia. “New Capena: City of Angels”
Can't wait for this to be adapted as an DnD setting
New capenna ex-plane-d. I expect to see this pun in all relevant future thumbnails

Is there a place in which I can start mtg lore ? And learn it in chronological order?
Love the Cabaretti but honestly Obscura is my playstyle lol

Loosely inspired by the 1920s/30s
Does this set seem a bit like an Unset, or a bit too cheesy to anyone else? Not trying to hate if you like it, but it's kinda cringey to me
