    One of my favorite theories about the Eldrazi is that they recycle dying planes, with Ulamog and Kozilek preparing the plane and Emrakul bringing new life to it. Supposedly Emrakul had herself trapped in Innistrad's moon because the plane wasn't ready for her, as it was still very much alive and thriving.

      I loved that story. Emrakul manipulating Tamiyo's mind to trap her in the moon until she's ready, instead of using the scrolls for anything else Tamiyo wanted to do.
      Now that Tamiyo is phyrexian I wonder what she'll do with her knowledge?
      I can't imagine any phyrexian overcoming Emrakul or anything like that... But they are master schemers. Just a lingering question I think on.

    The most terrifying thing about Emrakul is she thinks, reasons, and chooses. She is not a mindless monster, but a cosmic being beyond even Jace's compression with an agenda of her own. She sees, knows, and understands more than any other character and is working out of benevolence. Apparently.

    I don’t see the eldrazi as evil monsters. I just see them as forces of nature. Like Emrakul putting herself inside the moon. I don’t see her retreat as tactical or menacing but rather sad. She doesn’t have a purpose now that her brothers(?) are gone. She can’t bring life to new planes if Ulamog and Kozilek aren’t there to form them for her. For me I see her story as really sad because she isn’t trying to hurt, she is just trying to do what she is, a life bringer.
    I think that’s what’s so cool about Eldrazi, at face value they are big scary monsters but in actuality the titans are just trying to do their job and recycle old planes to bring more life.
    Yeah I know this is the “theory” but it’s pretty widely accepted and it just makes the most sense. I can’t wait for them to return so I can make more decks with eldrazi themes.

    The Eldrazi seems like a combination of kaiju and lovecraftian gods, kind of a force of nature and involved with the story (like a kaiju) but also kind of ineffable (like an elder god). I really like the eldrazi as a threat because it's lacking understandable agenda. Sure you can say it's about truths we cannot understand, but most of them just mindlessly follow instinct and the horror is really that we try to make sense of something that isn't really complicated, just hopeless. Sure you can suggest that there is deeper meaning like the suggestion of "clearing up space" for new planes, but I sort of think that's just wishful thinking or us thinking we can understand something with such a destructive, distruptive and world ending instinct. This is how they differ from phyrexians in my opinion because, even though phyrexia is horrifying, it's understandable. The Eldrazi just don't care about you. They will destroy you just because you are alive, as is the tree beside you, and you aren't more important.

    I always thought the 3 worked in tandem. I.E. ulamog strips the world of mana. Kozilek converts what’s left into “waste” mana and Emarakul converts the living mass into creatures that can utilise it.

  • @atrmial400
    @atrmial400 Год назад +7

    With the theory of eldrazi's cycling purpose, I 'd like to think that zendikar is near the end . A plane with crumbling nature, exploding randomly, full of old relics in forgotten temples , is a perfect candidate for being a dying plane. And "zendikar's rising" could have a much better signification than just being " we rise again after a terrible battle ". Maybe the roil is the manifestation of a "rotten" undying plane . Some cards like "shrine of the forsaken gods" are telling us that it's not the first time zendikar cheat on death and I like to think that some days, zendikar will pay the price of it's acts .

  • @vaivs7903

    You forgot to mention the most important thing. While Ulamog and Kozilek were defeated by the Gate Watch, it was Emrakul herself who imprison herself into the Innistrad's moon (By taking control of Tamyo and having Tamyo cast the spell). To this day we don't know why Emrakul did it, as her victory was almost assured.
    All of this means, we actually don't know the Eldrazi's purpose. If they just want to consume (each with their own method), why did Emrakul stop?

    • @classicalteacher
      @classicalteacher Год назад +1

      She retreated with the foresight that WotC would pollute future sets of Innistrad. She will be needed to erase the mistakes spewed by WotCs miasma. Only Emrakul can ingest their poison and clean the taint to a pure colorless mana. She waits. She bides. She plays Monopoly by herself cause she's bored on a moon not realizing she promotes the monolith that is Hasbro.

      It does imply an actual purpose, such as Ugin's theory of destroying dying planes to make space for new ones. If that theory is correct, then it means Emrakul stopped because it wasn't Innistrad's time yet.

Too much noise in the cards, pixelated transitions, glitches etc. Sometimes images look low-res because of these effects. See 13:59 for an example of how the background image stays low res for a while after the pixelated transition happens. At 12:56 Kozilek's Channeler never becomes fully rendered. My personal view as both a graphic designer and fan of magic art: Sometimes a simple, good high res image of the artwork / card with just a bit of movement or zoom is more than enough. :)

    To be honest, I don't see the Eldrazi's role as "best suited" as simple consumers. I feel like it would be better to say that the Eldrazi only "appear" to consume the plane's mana because of how their reality-warping powers affect things. *What I see* is something more akin to returning to an original level of *Entropy.*
    To me, magic color pie theory has always been sketchy or dodgy at best for what colorless should represent. Eldrazi give a better example into the relation of colorless mana to colored mana. It only takes a little bit of colored mana to truly dedicate a spell to a particular color (one pip minimum) so it's almost like adding ink to water. The water, in this case is colorless mana which would imply that colorless mana is the driving energetic source behind all mana. You can tap into wastes to obtain colorless mana, so mana still technically 'exists' it has simply be 'reverted.' In a way, colorless mana is thusly more akin to light and through a prism of the spellcaster (or the natural world) colored mana is produced. This is also why 5-Color and Colorless mana seem to play so very, very close to one another as once you send something back into defining it with quite literally _'everything'_ it also appears as to be _'nothing'._
    This is why it looks like the Eldrazi are not 'consuming' so much as 'resetting.' I would see them as almost interdimensional wardens that may be attracted to the overabundance of conflicting colored mana and see it as possibly something detrimental to the existence of that plane amidst the Blind Eternities. They go in, bring everything back to Zero as ultimate agents of Entropy, then leave. After millions of years, the plane's colors begin to return at healthy, balanced and non-conflicting levels. Time obviously wouldn't be a concern to them. It would add a hell of a lot of extra context to know that planeswalkers and sorcerers doing their things might actually be something _damaging_ to the universe and each plane. After all, we as players tap and siphon mana out of how many lands and devices to drop unbelievable levels of power on each other's heads in context of the lore of the game...and planeswalkers of the past have arguably destroyed and reshaped entire planes permanently with their interactions. That kind of thing probably doesn't go unnoticed.
    I would really love to see WotC expand on this concept but they appear creatively bankrupt and whipped from Hasbro so much that I doubt they will introduce more variation to colorless cards in the future...outside of the freaking artifact spam...
    All I know is I'm beginning to truly empathize with Sliver players as an Eldrazi lover myself.

On the other hand I find them simultaneously too weak and going down too quickly but also that their corruptive abilities too powerful. I really think angels and demons should be exempt or at the very least resistant.

      While they are born from a plane's mana, they aren't always tied to it, a lot of demons after all can travel outside their home plane to make deals with mortals, its more that they're pure manifestations of mana which is the lore reason for it. However, while there is a lore reason for it, thematically it doesn't really fit. They are supposed to be higher beings as well (to the point where angels commonly are worshiped as godesses despite not being one) and irl a good case can be made that both count as eldritch abominations, especially with how actual angels are described in the Bible. Some of the fun of the Angels, Devils and Squid trope is lost when you can't have the first two interact with the Squid because they become mindless thralls.
