    In the late 80´s Schneider Rundfkwerk AG brought DUAL brand and start to sell Premium Hi-Fi components under the brand DUAL, however developed by Schneider who in same cases outsourcing it from Asia brands.
    However the original DUAL turntables from black forest in Germany after the bankruptcy of Schneider AG was brought by a former worker of DUAL and the production of the original line of turntables remains in Germany, but only this original line the CS line.
    Others products and because Schneider was brought by the Chinese brand TCL use the brand DUAL but have nothing in common to the same company who manufactures the turntables.

    I have had lots of new and vintage turntables in the past few years, but the new Dual CS 429 is a superb deck. Purists might scoff at it because it is fully automatic, but with some serious upgrades it does everything and then some.

    Just to clarify, yes there was a split with Dual branded turntables being produced in Asia. However, quality Dual turntables are still being produced in Germany, and can be sourced through Dual's approved distributor/stockist network.

    Spinning my vinyl collection on a Technics SL-QD3(I bought new in 1977) and a Dual 202. The 202 was given to me last summer by another vintage audio gear enthusiast almost a year ago. Both are in mint-condition and could be sold as new. I wouldn't trade either one for any other TT.

    Still love my 505-2 after all these years. Can't say the same about my upgraded Planar 1. I still can't get over how noisy the motor vibration through the plinth is. And then the cartridge hum as it moves towards the spindle. I have a love-hate relationship with Rega.

    • @JohnDoe-np3zk
      @JohnDoe-np3zk 2 года назад

      Aha I have a similar "cartridge hum" as the arm moves towards the spindle with my planar 3/elys2. The motor was quite noisy at first but later quieted down. I did add some grease from Rega. I'm curious what cartridge you are using, the Bias 2 on my older Rega has a similar cartridge noise. I found on the newer unit at least moving the unit as far away from speaker and amps and up higher with shelves between has helped.

      Planar 2: Hum as arm moves to centre. Audible 'wow'. Bias didn't work properly - arm always moved to the outside when lifted and dropped. Average sounding cartridge. . Even the Io amp, which sounds great has a slight buzz on one channel. Not good for headphones I listened to three units. All buzzed. Quality control is not good.

    The platter and rubber mat look like they come from the Audio Technica AT-LP5. The tonearm looks like the one found on the Audio Technica AT-LP3. Presumably the same Chinese manufacturer. Those Audio Technica models are not bad at all so not surprised to hear good comments about this new Dual deck.

  • @MostEasterlySteve
    @MostEasterlySteve 2 года назад +3

    I think there are some inaccuracies here - and then repeated by some commenters. There are two lines of 'Dual' turntables. One very cheap, all Chinese line and can sometimes be found for less than a £100 at places like Lidl. But the other Dual is still German owned. All Dual turntables such as this one (with a 'CS' designation) are made by the German owned company. Yes, they do feature some 'parts bin' items off the peg from Chinese sources but I understand that Dual makes the lower end and mid-range Thorens turntables too and probably others. The CS Duals also feature functionality and tone arm designs from previous Dual turntables such as the CS-5000. Some are belt drive and a few are direct drive. They are decent turntables.

      @@cheshireaudio Sorry to say that, but the comment by MostEasterlySteve is also inaccurate, at least outdated (as of now). Although, I have to admit that things are quite complicated (therefore follows long comment).
      There is a company (Fehrenbacher) in the traditional Black Forest location of 'Dual' of old that to this day still makes turntables. After Schneider (another German company), the then-new owners of Dual (the old company) largely shut down the site there in the late 1980s or early 1990s, they (Fehrenbacher) kept making the Dual-branded turntables for Schneider. When Schneider themselves ran into problems in the later 1990s or early 2000s (they finally went bankrupt in 2002), the 'Dual' name was sold to a retail chain and then went onto some mysterious journey. However, Fehrenbacher retained a license to keep producing turntables under the 'Dual' brand (I'm not sure for which countries in total) and acquired the rights to market the 'Dual' turntables by themselves. They kept doing this until last year. Those were the 'Dual' turntables with the traditional 'CS' prefix (although even some of those, like the 'CS 410' AT-LP60 sibling, came from China/Hanpin). For some time, they also made 'Thorens' turntables alongside the 'Dual' ones.
      In the meantime, another German company (DGC) that had started out as importer of cheap Chinese electronics either licensed or outright bought (they sure own the brand now) the original 'Dual' brand (at least for Germany/Europe) and started a parallel line of 'Dual' turntables, which carried the 'DT' prefix and were all imported from China, typically the same Hanpin products that you can find under many different labels.
      On to 2021. For some reason unbeknown to me, Fehrenbacher's license to produce and market turntables under the 'Dual' name was terminated. So they revamped their offerings and introduced the new 'Rekkord' brand. Somehow Pro-ject's parent company is involved in this (merger or cooperation).
      At the same time, the other German company (DGC) renamed themselves 'Dual GmbH' and started to use the 'CS' moniker, which they had not done before. Most of these 'tables are still the typical Hanpin stuff, although there also is/are (one?) rather expensive 'table(s) 'Made in Germany'.
      So as of now, there is only *one* line of 'Dual' turntables left (in Europe, at least). One of these 'New Dual' CS tables (née Hanpin), finally, is what we have here.
      Please note: There never was a Chinese company directly selling turntables under the 'Dual' brand in Europe.

    IMO, the styling of the Dual leaves a lot to be desired. Big, in your face logo, archaic speed selection knob, just looks like a budget turntable, which could be argued it is, but unlike Rega, which has always looked more expensive than it is, and is classily understated.

    the dual is without a doubt better than the rega 2 ,it´s simple but it as all important functions to play a record with a good cartridge , the rega turntables ,are far better than the Pro-Ject turntables ,which till 1.000€ they sound and built the worst it can be ,also having a very bad sound ,incredible how young men buys them and think that is what vinil sound ,in late 80´s or early 90´s brands like technics were selling their turntables for prices around 100€ with far more quality and better built than this Pro-Ject turntables, you seem to be old enough to remenber how good turntables were , most of them from the 70´s and some released in the 80´s, but the ones from the 70´s even with heavy use are still working good and the ones from the 80´s ,could be almost perfect but problems appeared in several diferent brands turntables, the ones sold today are almost undressed and one has to buy several devices that normally any non full automatic turntable, had and this full automatic had them tuned from factory and still today they sound a lot better ,those belt driven that we handle ourselves to change speed and also being exposed to dust humidity they are not working properly after one year of use, some have their hands with natural skin protector living the belts dirty and able to slide on the engine part or the turntable itself, i think this is a scheme ,when i show one of my old turntables working guys that i know with ages between 30 to 40 years old seem to be not believe that the turntable itself as that sound and i might be hiding a equalizer or some other device, this talking about a 79 technics. You refer as a defect having a headshel that can be removed but there are many cartridges and one might work better with some records dpending on their type of sound and not being that good with a less filled sound, i think it´s a plus ,not that many conections ,only the regular four contacts, in a tonearm with no removable headshell ,you need to change everything ,and contacts are frail one might destroy one of the female atatchments to a new cartridge ,it´s not that simple
