Some of my best turntables early on were Duals, and I gave my daughter a Dual 4 or 5 years ago and she likes it very much. Glad to see they're back. Great interview!

I recently bought a secondhand Dual CS505-2 turntable to augment my CD collection and play the records that I bought in the 80s at jazz gigs (that were not available in the shops). I bought a new Ortofon stylus and I have to say it sounds absolutely amazing. With mint condition vinyl, it really runs CD and extremely close second, sometimes the only giveaway being the odd pop and crackle. The turntable and the new stylus cost £150 and I know in 1985 these were retailing at £599! There’s still loads of these around and there are some real bargains to be had, much better in my opinion than equivalent models on the market today. Only problem now is that the vinyl collection is growing as well as my CD & 78 rpm collection…. A real disease! Good to see Dual are back in the marketplace and long may that continue!

Great to see that Dual are back, and in German hands again, and supposedly built once more in Germany; just like the old classics!
When I first started working my first full-time job (1979), it was in a small family owned Hi-Fi/Photo/video shop in Banbury, UK (they're still there too!), and amongst the Technics, Trio-Kenwood, and Sony Hi-Fi equipment, we had a good range of the Dual CS-503 and CS-505 turntables.... they were excellent quality, and very good match for the better of the Technics turntables that we carried (up to the SL-10 and accompanying tonearm and base!)... The Duals didn't match the SL-10, but ran a close second to the 'legendary' SL-1200mk2 which were new at the time...
The CS-505 with the wood plinth was better than the plastic plinth version, but even that was a very fine performer! :-)
I wish them every success... :-)

I had a Dual turntable in the late 70's. I'm very interested in the S518. Loved the interview.

I had a Dual 506 Semi-Automatic Belt Drive turntable with the ULM tone arm and cartridge system back in ‘79 and found it a good mid-priced system. I sold it in ‘83 for the cash but since bought another one and a Dual 622 fully automatic about 20 years ago at a pawn shop for about $75 each. They are in mint condition. I have never used this 506 but currently use the 622. It works great except lately the auto feature stopped operating. I would recommend a used unit considering the price of the new ones.

I have the greatest respect for Dual. I have several higher end British turntables but when my kids started to collect vinyl I wanted something easy to use that I could let them use. I purchased a used CS505 mk3 from EBay for about £100 and by god what a little beauty it is. A hidden gem which sounds brilliant.

Will the speed tuning like on the side of the Dual direct drive606 platter return to the Dual brand ?

Will Dual re-introduce the old ULM arm. They were terrific. I bought a brand new 708q in the box, never touched in the original box, four years ago for 300 bucks. Glad to see Dual's back in the game. I also bought a used 607, with the ULM. Thorens used turntables have exploded in price, while used Duals are your best bargain.

Dual had re-introduced them in 2013 but they were not available in the United States. I bought a CS 460 with the ULM tonearm from Toronto. ($950) Within a year or so, they were not available
in North America, but you could see their website from Germany. These are ALL new models and the ones from 2013 are gone.

@@timheine5816 Does that mean that old dual turntables on ebay may be selling at a discount, esp the old so called grey and ugly duals from the 80s with the ulm Tonearm? The cs 607 and 608s were well done.

@@kevinfestner6126 I still have my 506 that I bought in 1977, and it still works, but needs a little work. The new DUAL models are NOT ULM. IDK about "discounts" on Ebay, but there are a good number of them for sale there. I contacted the owner of Audioscape (Canadian company) a few years ago and he said he had stopped carrying them and did not know why they were not
available in North America. As I said, NONE of the models from 2013 era are represented in DUAL's new line.

Sorry but this has nothing to do with classic Dual. The company that holds the name Dual is not the same as the original Dual which was produced in St. Georgen in the blackforest. Up until 2020/2021 the company Alfred Fehrenbacher produced the Dual CS turntables. They produced the original Duals legends like the CS505-4 or the later CS-600. They produced in the Black forest in St. Georgen on the original machines. Unfortunately the name holder did not extend the license rights to be used on the turntables and decided to produce the CS line themselves. Most of these are cheap chinese players.
Alfred Fehrenbacher on the other hand made a deal with austrian company project and produces for project. Also the original Dual Players can now be found under the name rekkord still out of the real Factory in the black forest.
There is also PE Perpetuum Ebner which was the second Record Player manufacturer out of St. Georgen and produces also today higher end machines in the black forest

I think you are confusing here the Dual Chinese production with the designation Dual DT with the higher quality German production under the designation Dual CS, which have nothing in common even in terms of property. While DUAL (CS), in an attempt to follow up on the original high-quality work, does not produce any cheap turntables based on the Taiwanese Hanpin, DUAL DT, as well as the Rekkord you mentioned, offers cheap turntables manufactured as an OEM in Taiwan. But it's not unusual. Inexpensive Hanpin products on the same basis as the Audio Technica LP60 were in the repertoire from about 1989, practically all leading brands (Pioneer, Sony, Aiwa, etc.) Therefore, in defense of this gentleman, who is the rightful owner of Dual, it is necessary to say that, unlike the Chinese DUAL (DT) or unlike the new offshoot of the original Dual (now Rekkord), he does not have any cheap device based on OEM Hanpin in his offer.

@@sevcaczech5961 Nope sorry but you are not right. The only Dual Turntable which is made in the blackforest is the primus maximus, all other also the new CS line bares the label made in china. Not only the DT line which was always low end. If you got the possibility to check one out at a dealer near you you will find this sticker on the back. And regarding rekkord you are wrong. Alfred Fehrenbacher produces the players still in St. Georgen Blackforest. When they lost the rights to use the Name Dual Project stepped in and they produce also for them. Automat series for ex. All of these are non chinese products.

Plastic is Chinese Dual DT, based on Taiwanese Hanpin, that has nothing in common with German Dual CS, this guy speaking of. As you see, he does not mention any DUAL DT TTs because his company is not producer of those turntables.
