I interpreted this song as a metaphor for giving someone your heart, or them giving you theirs. Hearts are behind sternums. When she says “my little ribs around you” that is a way of saying she will protect his heart. How much closer can two people be than that. It makes me cry everytime lol
Nah, I heard this on a Nissan GTR drift vid showcase back in 2014. Thought it was a car song, so I fell in love with it. Clearly that was a lie.
I like how despite the lyrics clearly making for an extremely gory mental image, the song itself is more warm and is about intimacy and love

I kind of get multiple meanings out of it.
There's the fully symbolic version like what you're talking about, of course.
And then there's a more literal takeaway where it's about that sort of dark, unhealthy love. The kind where the other person could do almost anything to you and you'd still love them. In this case, it's saying they could physically tear you apart, and you'd still trust them to make your body a beautiful monument to your love for each other.
The song "Il tuo vizio e una stanza chiusa e solo io ne ho la chiave" by Jedi Mind Tricks (but 100% sung by Yes, Alexander) first pulled my attention to that being a thing. It almost singlehandedly made me realize how people can get into such externally sad relationships, because there is something oddly alluring and romantic about that idea. Horribly unhealthy way to go through life, but it finally made sense.

I still remember an old friend I had sent me this song. Nastya , I'll never forget you. I was 15 , depressed and lost, and she was 16. Incredibly talented and kind. Im 23 now, haven't been able to find and talk again with her in years . Back Then I couldn't understand the meaning. I've grown up so much in those years . I wonder how she is. I hope that she is doing well. I hope that she is feeling all feelings, that she can enjoy small and big things. That she still makes art, that she will always be true to herself .

It's like right in that hard to define sweet spot where I'd call it Hypnagogic Pop. That's exactly how the rest of it is too. In the wrong mood I'll listen to something like this and wonder why I ever liked it, and then I'll catch it another day in the right mood and fucking love it again.

heard this song for the first time last weekend. i was at my boyfriend's house and we were watching letterkenny. i had just gotten super high. i was laying in his arms. i started listening deeply to the song that was playing at the moment, which happened to be this song. it truly felt like it was speaking to both of us. he held me a little tighter as if he felt it too. that moment felt the way i imagine heaven would feel. all i felt was euphoria. it was the greatest thing i've ever felt. true love is a very beautiful thing.

It's Phantogram "When I'm Small", Purity Ring "Fineshrine", The Naked and Famous "Punching in a Dream", In The Valley Below "Peaches", M83 "Midnight City", Oliver Tree "Life Goes On", and Steve Lacy "Bad Habit".
I would really like to add onto that list, does anyone know of anything else extremely similar? Sometimes I will throw "Cradles" into the mix by Sub Urban, and I used to throw in "Bad Dream" by Cannons, but that song got to where it didn't hype me up, and was actually just rather depressing.
