Lyrics
[Verse 1]
It's always around me, all this noise
But not nearly as loud as the voice saying
"Let it happen, let it happen (It's gonna feel so good)
Just let it happen, let it happen"
[Chorus 1]
All this running around
Trying to cover my shadow
A notion growing inside
Now all the others seem shallow
All this running around
Bearing down on my shoulders
I can hear an alarm
It must be morning
[Verse 2]
I heard about a whirlwind that's coming 'round
It's gonna carry off all that isn't bound
And when it happens, when it happens (I won't be holding on)
So let it happen, let it happen
It's gonna feel so good
It's gonna feel so good
[Verse 1]
It's always around me, all this noise
But not nearly as loud as the voice saying
"Let it happen, let it happen (It's gonna feel so good)
Just let it happen, let it happen"
It's gonna feel so good
[Chorus 2]
All this running around
I can't fight it much longer
Something's trying to get out
And it's never been closer
If my take-off fails
Make up some other story
But if I never come back
Tell my mother I'm sorry
[Bridge]
(Gibberish)
[Outro]
Baby, now I'm ready, moving on
Oh but maybe I was ready all along
Oh I'm ready for the moment and the sound
Oh but maybe I was ready all along
Baby, now I'm ready, moving on
Oh but maybe I was ready all along
Oh I'm ready for the moment and the sound
Oh but maybe I was ready all along

I just realized...
The scene where the plane goes through turbulence, notice how the other 3 people shown are "asleep" and not waking up to the plane crashing. It seems like they've already accepted their deaths and he's next on the "plane" to accept it.
This video gets deeper and deeper the more you watch it and I love it.
Another interpretation would be that he is hallucinating / dreaming. When he takes one seatbelt off , 3 appears meaning he cannot escape death. Same thing with the sandwich, it's talking to him , only he can see it , only he can the plane go havoc , only he knows it's gonna happen.
Good pov though
They're asleep cause its a dream he's having on his way to death. He died on the terminal, never got on the plane remember?
I choose to think those 3 sleeping people are the ones who don’t care about living anymore, they’ve given up. The reason he has so many belts put on him is the fact that everything is just telling him to give up (even his sandwich xd) and as the plane is crashing he still wants to live. So rather than just accept it and give up with the others on the plane he tries to escape and thus is able to go on to the next life gracefully, knowing he tried everything to stop it, rather than just going down with the plane.

The best feeling is waking up from a dream where you did something terrible or something really bad happened to you and you realize it was all a dream. The worst feeling is having something really good happen to you and then waking up to the stress of reality.
The worst feeling is when you can't believe what is really happening and for a few seconds you think you're about to wake up, but instead you have a face-crash with a tragedy
@@tulipstone the brain organization use the time on the dream differently to about when you are wake up . When you are wake you have remember the last picture of your dream so you feel like all thing you have on the dream was a few minute.

I really like how he tries to take off his seat belt at 2:36 just to find three more seat belts holding him in place. No escaping the inevitability of death. Great song, great video.
It struck me that the extra belts were mimicking in his dream, the chest pressure felt by heart attack victims.
SANDSCORCHER underrated comment
Then when he finally let go he escaped
more like inevitability of life
oh I didn't notice that, pretty cool, thanks!!
Kevin Parker made a statement summarizing the whole song, "finding yourself always in this world of chaos and all this stuff going on around you and always shutting it out because you don't want to be part of it. But at some point, you realize it takes more energy to shut it out than it does to let it happen and be a part of it." This song and quote changed my entire life.
Thank you so much! People are so closed to the idea it's just about death. I think it could be more about psychedelic trance ego death. Your quote helps me see there's more!
I'd rather keep on shutting out people's horrible sense in fashion choice and choice of music, and let's face it why would they care for me, unless they're family or a friend, besides there's a lot of ugly people out there, but I do believe in being free once you die
Dam ... I got that loud & clear... An epiphany explained in so many words..
I'll always resist this world, love the music, but that message is not good.

Peak symbolism... As soon as he realised how peaceful and beautiful it was he just let go of it... All that stress he left behind...
@iliveinadysfunctionalfamily286A point that’s further driven home by the fact that he’s the only one without an oxygen mask.
Poor guy just wants to get home and relax. Instead he's overworked, stressed, dead, what a life.
it's not a life he's dead
Yeah, this music video makes me so sad. I feel so bad for the guy (and yes I'm aware it's fictional, my guys). At least wherever he's finally headed looked pretty sweet.
@@Spamhard what's sad is this is realistic fiction, this is some people's lives, a reality.
@@marie3542 Yup, that's why it strikes such a chord. I've been in jobs where I was so stressed I was crying in bathrooms on the daily. The concept of dying while being that stressed and anxious is a real sad tale.
I'm the 900th like.
Its amazing that the song is about acceptance to death. the guy obviously dies in the very beginning, hes on the metaphorical plan taking a trip to the afterlife. he fights it the first time, playing back to earlier that day, where he could have done something, anytthing, different in order to save himself. the second time hes on the plane hes confused by whats in front of him, and is scared as death takes him. He lets go of the only thing keeping him grounded to reality (the seat) and allows his soul to move on. The afterlife takes him and brings him to the light, and since hes given up the fight, nothing the paramedics could do would save him. I cant tell whats better, the representation of the song or the actual song itself.
I’ve been waiting for someone to say this!!! You nailed it!!
Also, the confused face and act he has at the beginning, is showing our stressful and empty modern lifestyle. It's all work and a being scared of "whirlwind" taking everything if we don't fit in the system...
I think this is the perfect explanation to the video without getting too meta or over analyzing!
Wow you nailed the explanation of the video.
I’ve been coming back to this song every day since my father died. I hope it was easy for him, I hope he wasn’t in pain before he passed. My heart is crushed, this video makes me feel like his travel to the afterlife was a kind one.
So everything that happens is within the few seconds that he dies on the airport floor. His mind spends every alternate universe where he would have made another decision that morning ... All possibilities culminate in his death.
This song touches me deeply, I think maybe in everyone who experienced this feeling of death close by. A song about accepting death, about accepting life. Don't wait to let it happen only when there is no more choice.
felt this :(
Death is a life goal
I've had this feeling before my first ever bad trip
It ain’t that deep
🙏🏼🙏🏼
His calm acceptance at the end really makes me feel something. I see this music video as him letting his old self die, the one that was so attached and worried all the time. The plane is his journey through it and he initially tries to fight it only to have more seatbelts strap him in, the only way through is to let go, which he does at the end. I love it.
Great deduction man wow
he had to let it happen
Thats a very nice Idea you have and youre interpretation of this song seems almost to accurate if u ask me😂
The scenes where the man is suspended in the darkened clouds as they are shocking his heart to bring him back are so beautifully done. I love how he's suspended and writhes his body around, and then the white graphics trail out from around him as they shock him. Cinematically this is really beautifully done.
It is my favorite part of the video. Beautiful.
Couldn’t agree more, it’s so creative and beautifully done.
And the music around that part. It's a masterpiece
Thanks for putting this into words, I was just feeling the same way - great video overall, but that part really sticks in my head!
I also love the bit where it transitions from him being on the plane looking at the giant alarm clock to being back in the hotel room - the actor does a terrific job of portraying the confusion and panic.
The defibrillator scene is simply perfection. From the actor's body movement to his outline syncing with the lightning in the dark clouds behind him and everything fitting so well to the rhythm.
It never fails to make me cry.
I thought the exact same thing!! From how it mirrors the 3 separate realities of him dying, to how it shows him being dropped into position with the lines of his body echoing out with the defibrillator's shocks, to the windiness creating further chaos/ethereality around him, just-- ugh, so, so good. My absolute favorite part of this video.

Spot on!
I had an esophageal spasm at 18 which is commonly mistaken for a heart attack, but can happen to anyone at any time.
I genuinely thought I was going to die that night in the ER. The visuals of this music video is exactly what it felt like to feel my heart stop twice and feel all the blood in my veins slow down as I fell to the floor in slow motion. 3:10

At 0:30 right as he sings, "Let it happen", the plane takes off directly through his chest at the exact moment his heart gives out, and I believe it symbolizes his soul exiting the body. Fucking incredible detail.
Also, I noticed that as the medic uses the defibrillator on him, he has lines of light that burst off around him and that escape the black borders, the only thing that does escape the borders in the whole video. I wonder if this symbolizes his soul struggling to leave the body as the medic tries to resuscitate. I noticed that during the 3 shock attempts, he takes 3 different poses. The last pose looks a lot like the "Hanged Man" tarot card, which makes me wonder if the other first two poses also have significance.

Oh shit, that's true. But it's recorded on the airport and the plane is not fake, so it was a coincidence... very good placed coincidence

That moment at 1:50 reminds me to when I almost died of internal bleeding back in 2023, was working at an office when i sarted puking blood and passed out multiple times, had to be taken by ambulance to the hospital were they saved my life. Thats a realistic portrait of how it feels, everything starts to sound muffled and you feel your vision backing until you see everything far away, as if you were on the back of your head, then you dont feel anything and suddelny you're having hallucinations. I remember going back and forth through this until the paramedics arrived.
very interesting
i had the same internal bleed issue - except I was shidding blood lmao. lost about 2 litres, GI tract bleed
the resignation to death, the quietly thanking the staff and leaving them to their "world" as you pass out to consider your "world" which you feel to be something different to theirs... I'm so grateful to the drivers, the ambulance team, and everyone who helped me. When i was first given fluids it brought me back a bit and I was very shaken, but even the cleaning staff stopped to comfort me.
I'm glad I made it. I'm glad you're okay now, it's strange to share this feeling.
@@AdamOwenBrowninghow did that happen?
I hear that a lot from near death experience reports, that when you reach the point where your consciousness begins to disembody you often perceive your body from the third person.
My mom had an experience like that when she was getting her tonsils removed as a child. She was floating above her hospital bed and saw the doctors and nurses rush in and gather around her head. They were trying to resuscitate her body. She saw a scalpel in one of their hands and she was trying to yell at them to not cut her. She was eventually sucked back into her body and into a sleep state. She woke up later.

2:48 At first, i thought these lyrics where meant to be from an anxious person that about to let it rain.

Bro made a masterpiece and left people addicted to this song. Honestly this is the realest, best, relatable song I've ever heard.
The visual metaphor at 3:12 is stunning. It draws a parallel between being resuscitated by a defibrillator and being stopped mid air while falling into the abyss (the latter can be a stand in for any form of dying). The shocks of the defibrillator bring him back to life are visually shown to be similar to a string yanking him still while he’s falling down (note how his chest is extended upwards, held up while the rest of him is limp to the side, still beckoned by the gravity, the inevitability, of death). Trying in vain to stop his descent into the abyss.
Here's another detail!!!!
When hes in the air and the white shock waves effect happens, the waves break the boarder (in other words, they go above the black lines at the top and bottom), nothing else does that in the video other than the shock waves in that scene
Lol we get it it’s not that deep lol
Alright enough over analyzing this video I dont think it's that deep
That was beautiful. The structure, verbiage even down to the metaphor. Brilliant‼️😭❤️

This makes me hopeful for an afterlife where all of the people in this crazy world with crippling stress, anxiety, and difficult situations can finally rest and be at peace. My father died a couple of months ago. He came to me in a dream. He looked younger, maybe in his twenties or thirties. He told me "I'm okay son." and we just hugged. At some point I realized it was a dream and I hoped the dream would last forever. I'll see him again someday.
You know there doesn’t need to be an afterlife for there to peace after you die. The ceasing of your consciousness should is the ultimate and endless break from reality since you can no longer feel or think and just be and not be. Sorry to hear about ur dad mine died in November a few months ago. He wasn’t doin to well here on earth and I’m happy he can finally stop hurting. But don’t be scared of what comes after death as a can assure you it’s most likely just nothingness. But try to find comfort In the fact that that one day you no longer have to worry because all you’ll become is a memory for your love ones to pass on from generation to generation, unless u become famous then you kinda live on in a lot more peoples heads

This music video is symbolic. The story is that this man is always busy, and is not happy with his life. He has a heart attack, so he is presented with three possible deaths. He goes through each one, while in the real life, an assistant gets paramedics to try to bring him back. The man finally realized that life has turns, and eventually lets it happen. The final scene where he's falling towards a light in the clouds is him facing death.
The story is Rube Goldberg-like, and is very complex. The man didn't like change to happen, and in the end, it turns out he was prepared. Change was a being, telling him to just relax and let it happen.
"Change was a being." I like it.

interesting analysis but I feel like the last scene is his not him coming back to life, but rather he is coming to terms with the fact of his death, and after he just "lets it happen", he is at peace.
+Chad Rickman Yep, that's what I think too. When the time comes he just lets it happen. Cause his life ain't hit...
+Sheldon Andre reading the end gave me mad goosebumps
It's incredible! it seems as if he is full of doubts, worries, as if he has some existential or identity crisis (to exemplify), because he says that a notion grows in him and he sees everyone as superficial people (because they let it happen and do not overthink). A voice inside him tells him to let it happen, that he will feel good, as if telling him not to overthink. How interesting, I can relate.

People will think I'm dumb for saying this, but that should have came sooner in the song. Still a banger though.
FACT
@@Immafraid Think of it as a reward for sticking with the song for 7 minutes and 47 seconds.
that part during the live show was just a perfect musical and visual experience
The build up from there is amazing too
When I was in middle school, I had an extra nerve in my heart that would sometimes cause it to short circuit.
I'd spontaneously get tachycardia where my heart would race rapidly and not pump blood efficiently. Similar to how a roller coaster can make your stomach feel weightless, I'd feel like I was falling even while standing or laying down. The lack of oxygen in my blood would make my vision narrow... Even the feeling of a constricted chest or feeling trapped by your own body is all brilliantly depicted with the numerous buckles from the airplane seat.
They nailed all the sensations: The pain, the panic, the confusion, the calm, and even perception of reality during brain death. This video REALLY reaches me on a raw and primal level.
That's tough Man....
Cool story bro, no one cares tho
I have similar symptoms, is there a specific name for this?
@@MrDarkipower I do xD
Do you still have that extra nerve
This song really does help you just accept the present moment for what it is
Yes 👍🏻
OH MY GOD YES
The video really drives this point home. Who the hell cares if you make that flight? Who cares how big your hotel room/apartment is? You could die at any moment. Do what makes you happy.
i think its about panic attacks and how the only way you can overcome it is by let it happen
@@MegaFPVFlyererr I care if I make that flight?
I was high when I found this video. An amazing work.
I can see how the man's emotion gets changed all the time.
From frustration and tiredness in real life, he's become free, finally.
This is all my interpretations, and I hope what I guess was right about the intention of this artwork.
This song to me seems to be about anxiety. Let it happen quite literally meaning let it happen; just let go and accept what happens. To me this song is about accepting that you can't always be in control.
It's about death and letting go
I find more interesting and philosophical the "fear of death and its feeling" kind of meaning for this song. I didn't like the way Kevin view Let It Happen, he said it was a song about how we accept changes and just let them happen towards our life, that meaning feels a little basic, at least for me.
I percieved it that way as well, especially because I have health anxiety and am convinced I'm dying multiple times a day and I play out each scenario. Every. Day.
Medication has helped but I found this song because I'm scrolling to distract from my current fears instead of sleeping.
wow thank you
I agree
I have heart failure, I was given 10 years to live 12 years ago! This vid and tune is beautiful, made me ridiculously happy

what??? ive been listening to some of his songs for years and just finding that out wth
This song and this video have been haunting me for years now, like seriously. And one thing that I find unsettling is that the actor's face looks younger to me when he is 'dead'. Amazing work.
"Michael instone "the actor in this amazing video, was born in Sutton Coldfield to middle class parents and has one brother. In his youth Michael was unbeaten in the ring as a kick boxer but moved to study acting at The Academy of Live and Recorded Arts in London after a short spell at The Birmingham School of Speech and Drama. His first major theatre role was playing Will Parker in Oklahoma and his first speaking role was in Eastenders as a barrister. Michael is the man in the award winning music video for Tame Impala's Let it Happen. He rides a classic Kawasaki motorcycle and rock climbs.
I can’t even describe what I feel when listening to this song. There’s no way to articulate this kind of deeply sitted feeling in the soul. What a piece of magic this song is...
A strong emotion just rushing through.... as if I can almost feel it in my soul.

The feeling

I can't quite explain why, but his blissful expression toward the end always makes me tear up a little 🥲 I'm touched to see him, finally free from his pain.
Damn, you too? I always get a bit misty-eyed. He's in so much pain throughout, but now it's over.
😢🙌
@ladycplum EXACTLY 💯 like, we watch this poor man going through the motions of his high-stress life, he's married and probably never gets time with his loved ones, every day is a gamble with his condition, and then finally... At first, it was scary, staving off the inevitable, but when he finally lets go, his suffering is over. Crazy stuff 😅
yeah same thing, after a long journey, he reached a happy ending. 🥲
Well, I hate to disrupt your optimism but the whole music video is actually a metaphor for opiate addiction. And well, he in fact, did _not_ let it happen at the end. I can explain more if you're interested.
Iconic masterpiece
2:26 the change up made me feel something i have never felt before
Remember: If you get anxiety attack, just let the brain heat. Dont pay attention to it. Instead view the whole situation in third person, you will calm your brain by doing this. Cause it gets confused and neurons stop firing.
My fav song of Tame impala until now.
plz don't train yourself to dissociate.
thanks👍
If you can "think your way out of" or "just ignore" an anxiety attack... Then you don't really have anxiety.
I love that they are comments like these all over the comment section of this song, y’all just some beautiful people!
@some name It works for some, at least for me. But, everyone has to find their own way, i guess. I'm no expert, just saying
Watching this video is always both a spiritual and near-death experience.
Gilliganfrog it is so cool!
Yes I had one
Last night was crazy for me
I felt a sense of unease
I try to ignore it by sleeping
But every time my mind is about to sleep
I felt something clicking my chest waking me up
And it goes on for hours
And it makes me feel like I'm about to die or something bad is going to happen to me
Coincidentally my dad is awake to pee
I told him and asked why can't I sleep?
He comforts me and says "it's gonna be alright I'll always be on your side until you fall asleep"
I always thought he dislikes me
I always thought he thought of me as weak
But every time I needed him he's there for me
I love you dad.....
As EMT, watching this video of a person’s final step toward death, when the defibrillation doesn’t work and you start to lose hope, is where I say, not only are we here to save lives, but also to accompany the final step toward death.
Thank God for people like you ❤️
I don't think I could handle doing what sort of work you do, so thank you for being there for people when they need someone most.
I'm not afraid to die now, I will have my family and brave EMT or doctors by my side
Yea thats way too intense to do, I heard a story of a kid that came back after being under cold water for almost an hour where his brain had no oxygen and his hear had stopped and he was brought back by cpr. I would recommend seeing the movie Puss in Boots 2, The Last Wish. It has a lot to say on the topics of anxiety surrounding death and tells it beautifully. I know it's a "kid' movie", but it honestly portrays it the best I've ever seen in any type of media.
Coming as someone who had my own 3 year period of depression and anxiety and who is now in "remission", as I call it, but can still always feels that part of me threatening.
@@navidvarzeghani2789 I'm not OP, but as someone who went through something similar, I can safely say that it's not something you "fully recover" from -- you just learn how to manage it better to the point where you're functional. *In the swirling symphony of Tame Impala's soundscapes, I found not an escape from reality but a deeper dive into its infinite depths. My third eye awakened, not to a hallucination, but to the kaleidoscopic truth of my own consciousness, blooming in the timeless oasis of the Mind & Heart's Eyeful sanctuary. There, in the sublime state of sonic immersion, I danced with the cosmos, a luminous spark in the infinite expanse, forever changed by the echoes of a music that shattered the mundane and revealed the boundless potential within. A cosmic nudge from the Universe was all it took for me to rediscover Tame Impala experience my reawakening. To be, is to becone, and to become is to be eternal. Endlessly so.*

Am I the only one that absolutely loves that part at 3:12 where the shock waves sort of go off frame and his body is reacting to the shock waves? It honestly gives me chills. Well tbh this whole video gives me chills because of how good it is
I think it's particularly freaky because the blending of reality and wandering thoughts like when something like an alarm clock works its way into a dream instead of waking you. They've just replaced sleeping with losing consciousness while dying, so it makes it seem like a realistically plausible telling of what it's like to die. Seriously fucked up but not in a bad way...
ruclips.net/video/osN55togDNw/видео.html
3:12 is intense, no doubt. Those jolts of electricity are piercing his dying dreams, and it was at this point that I thought he'd be drawn back into his body and be revived. When instead he died, I was blown away. The "jolts" moments became even more significant-he was on a one way trip, no going back, peace out. I just about choked up.
YES. I've replayed that part for hours now. The dude gives me major Bowie vibes. Great cast
I just love the guitar riff
This song actually kinda helps with grieving for my mom who died a year ago. It’s been so hard without her and I used to watch this video and stop at the part with the defibrillators because I did the same thing for her and it didn’t work, it was too late for her but when I watch the guy go from falling to flying up i feel better because I know she’s flying too.
You should also listen to “just breathe” by Pearl Jam too. I’m sorry for your loss
Hope ur all good bro
You will eventually meet her one day, bro :) She's watching you from above, smiling and proud.
Sorry for your loss. Your mother is probably flying yea.
I'm so sorry for your loss. Your mother loves you and is proud of you
this was my older brother’s favorite music video, he would play this whenever we would hang out in his room and say he pictured himself passing away like this.
he was quite young but also had a stressful life full of work and had anxiety… six months ago he passed away suddenly from a heart attack ( genetic issues we never knew of ) and i swear this song saved my life. because after losing him and through the horrible grief, i also lost our place and all i had for a while was only his pets which i promised i’d care for.
he was the closest person to me after losing most of our family to death. it was incredibly hard for me to process it, but i “let it happen”, i let him go… and the whole time i held on to his favorite songs including this one to find comfort.
fly high erick, i love the gem you gave me to get through this. love you dude.
