The best feeling is waking up from a dream where you did something terrible or something really bad happened to you and you realize it was all a dream. The worst feeling is having something really good happen to you and then waking up to the stress of reality.

I just realized... The scene where the plane goes through turbulence, notice how the other 3 people shown are "asleep" and not waking up to the plane crashing. It seems like they've already accepted their deaths and he's next on the "plane" to accept it. This video gets deeper and deeper the more you watch it and I love it.
Another interpretation would be that he is hallucinating / dreaming. When he takes one seatbelt off , 3 appears meaning he cannot escape death. Same thing with the sandwich, it's talking to him , only he can see it , only he can the plane go havoc , only he knows it's gonna happen. Good pov though
I choose to think those 3 sleeping people are the ones who don’t care about living anymore, they’ve given up. The reason he has so many belts put on him is the fact that everything is just telling him to give up (even his sandwich xd) and as the plane is crashing he still wants to live. So rather than just accept it and give up with the others on the plane he tries to escape and thus is able to go on to the next life gracefully, knowing he tried everything to stop it, rather than just going down with the plane.
That moment at 1:50 reminds me to when I almost died of internal bleeding back in 2023, was working at an office when i sarted puking blood and passed out multiple times, had to be taken by ambulance to the hospital were they saved my life. Thats a realistic portrait of how it feels, everything starts to sound muffled and you feel your vision backing until you see everything far away, as if you were on the back of your head, then you dont feel anything and suddelny you're having hallucinations. I hear that a lot from near death experience reports, that when you reach the point where your consciousness begins to disembody you often perceive your body from the third person. My mom had an experience like that when she was getting her tonsils removed as a child. She was floating above her hospital bed and saw the doctors and nurses rush in and gather around her head. They were trying to resuscitate her body. She saw a scalpel in one of their hands and she was trying to yell at them to not cut her. She was eventually sucked back into her body and into a sleep state. She woke up later.

His calm acceptance at the end really makes me feel something. I see this music video as him letting his old self die, the one that was so attached and worried all the time. The plane is his journey through it and he initially tries to fight it only to have more seatbelts strap him in, the only way through is to let go, which he does at the end. I love it.
I really like how he tries to take off his seat belt at 2:36 just to find three more seat belts holding him in place. No escaping the inevitability of death. Great song, great video.
So everything that happens is within the few seconds that he dies on the airport floor. His mind spends every alternate universe where he would have made another decision that morning ... All possibilities culminate in his death. This song touches me deeply, I think maybe in everyone who experienced this feeling of death close by. A song about accepting death, about accepting life. Don't wait to let it happen only when there is no more choice.
The defibrillator scene is simply perfection. From the actor's body movement to his outline syncing with the lightning in the dark clouds behind him and everything fitting so well to the rhythm. It never fails to make me cry.

It’s a feeling of remembrance. It’s like “Oh, that’s right. Now I remember. This is where I came from.” I had that experience once but it wasn’t my time so I came back. They want you to know They love you infinitely.
The actor was perfect for this. The way he's looking around when you first see him, his expression after dunking his head in water, his eyes when he's being hit by the defib, and then his smile when he finally accepts whats happening.
Its amazing that the song is about acceptance to death. the guy obviously dies in the very beginning, hes on the metaphorical plan taking a trip to the afterlife. he fights it the first time, playing back to earlier that day, where he could have done something, anytthing, different in order to save himself. the second time hes on the plane hes confused by whats in front of him, and is scared as death takes him. He lets go of the only thing keeping him grounded to reality (the seat) and allows his soul to move on. The afterlife takes him and brings him to the light, and since hes given up the fight, nothing the paramedics could do would save him. I cant tell whats better, the representation of the song or the actual song itself.
Also, the confused face and act he has at the beginning, is showing our stressful and empty modern lifestyle. It's all work and a being scared of "whirlwind" taking everything if we don't fit in the system...
I’ve been coming back to this song every day since my father died. I hope it was easy for him, I hope he wasn’t in pain before he passed. My heart is crushed, this video makes me feel like his travel to the afterlife was a kind one.
The video really drives this point home. Who the hell cares if you make that flight? Who cares how big your hotel room/apartment is? You could die at any moment. Do what makes you happy.
The scenes where the man is suspended in the darkened clouds as they are shocking his heart to bring him back are so beautifully done. I love how he's suspended and writhes his body around, and then the white graphics trail out from around him as they shock him. Cinematically this is really beautifully done.
Thanks for putting this into words, I was just feeling the same way - great video overall, but that part really sticks in my head! I also love the bit where it transitions from him being on the plane looking at the giant alarm clock to being back in the hotel room - the actor does a terrific job of portraying the confusion and panic.
This is the exact feeling of a spiritual awakening. Hearing this song from time to time awakens a remembrance in me. Makes me see the truth on a whole different level, ascending. Seeing trough the illusions of the constructions in society. My soul has something much bigger for me. Gives me strength! This song is fuel
at 3:34 when he stops fighting against the fall and begins to accept what's happening, the way his face changes from tormented despair to warm happiness is so good man. I hope that's how we all feel when our time comes and we face the maker.
@@lokesterridk if something amazing, but, imagine dying as an old person, yeah its sad but you did everything you could do in life, you completed your life
The visual metaphor at 3:12 is stunning. It draws a parallel between being resuscitated by a defibrillator and being stopped mid air while falling into the abyss (the latter can be a stand in for any form of dying). The shocks of the defibrillator bring him back to life are visually shown to be similar to a string yanking him still while he’s falling down (note how his chest is extended upwards, held up while the rest of him is limp to the side, still beckoned by the gravity, the inevitability, of death). Trying in vain to stop his descent into the abyss.
Here's another detail!!!! When hes in the air and the white shock waves effect happens, the waves break the boarder (in other words, they go above the black lines at the top and bottom), nothing else does that in the video other than the shock waves in that scene
I saw some live performances on RUclips. I love the band, they're brilliant really. I know he doesn't have a great voice, but it fits well with the overall vibe. I'll go to see a concert when I'll have a chance. Thanks for sharing your experience!
This makes me hopeful for an afterlife where all of the people in this crazy world with crippling stress, anxiety, and difficult situations can finally rest and be at peace. My father died a couple of months ago. He came to me in a dream. He looked younger, maybe in his twenties or thirties. He told me "I'm okay son." and we just hugged. At some point I realized it was a dream and I hoped the dream would last forever. I'll see him again someday.
You know there doesn’t need to be an afterlife for there to peace after you die. The ceasing of your consciousness should is the ultimate and endless break from reality since you can no longer feel or think and just be and not be. Sorry to hear about ur dad mine died in November a few months ago. He wasn’t doin to well here on earth and I’m happy he can finally stop hurting. But don’t be scared of what comes after death as a can assure you it’s most likely just nothingness. But try to find comfort In the fact that that one day you no longer have to worry because all you’ll become is a memory for your love ones to pass on from generation to generation, unless u become famous then you kinda live on in a lot more peoples heads
Man the drummer Kevin Parker is so good. I also love their guitarist Kevin Parker, but while the bass is pretty good and Kevin Parker is very talented. The vocals by Kevin Parker are the best part by far..
My first time hearing this hidden gem and I’m honestly glad I found it now. Came to me when I needed it most. Sometimes life is unfair, Actually life can be unfair all the time. But as humans every day we gotta shut up, sit up And keep moving because that’s what makes us amazing. How we handle the hardships and how they make us stronger.
I was high when I found this video. An amazing work. I can see how the man's emotion gets changed all the time. From frustration and tiredness in real life, he's become free, finally. This is all my interpretations, and I hope what I guess was right about the intention of this artwork.
I can’t even describe what I feel when listening to this song. There’s no way to articulate this kind of deeply sitted feeling in the soul. What a piece of magic this song is...
for those that don't know, Tame Impala's music is all one man: Kevin Parker. He's a freaking genius and gives multi-instrumentalist / home studio musicians like myself inspiration, hope and massive jealousy.
This video represents all of my worst fears at once - loss of control, lack of understanding, loss of reality and death. They almost mix together to form a strange mixture I can't quite describe but this video somehow represented perfectly.
@@ashwinramesh4186 I have never been a religious person (with respect to those who are) and have made that observation myself! Religion capitalizes on the primal fears that are engrained in our DNA and changes over time to become more "believable." The true beauty of it is how religion takes advantage of human nature.
I just realized, “something’s trying to get out, and it’s never been closer” is a hint to his soul trying to leave his body on the final moments of his life. The music video is genius
@Jordan Carreira I agree, it's all just copypasted comments. Not even that weird compared to some music videos I've seen and that's without even mentioning Tool.
At 0:30 right as he sings, "Let it happen", the plane takes off directly through his chest at the exact moment his heart gives out, and I believe it symbolizes his soul exiting the body. Fucking incredible detail.
Also, I noticed that as the medic uses the defibrillator on him, he has lines of light that burst off around him and that escape the black borders, the only thing that does escape the borders in the whole video. I wonder if this symbolizes his soul struggling to leave the body as the medic tries to resuscitate. I noticed that during the 3 shock attempts, he takes 3 different poses. The last pose looks a lot like the "Hanged Man" tarot card, which makes me wonder if the other first two poses also have significance.
For a song thats 5 years old, this song easily sounds like it can be released 10 years from now and no-one would bat an eye because of how timeless it is
2:48 At first, i thought these lyrics where meant to be from an anxious person that about to let it rain. But then i realized that is the guy refusing to die, thinking that he will overthrow this situation, but after that, he just accepts it, and feels good.
We are all running around in a spinning hamsterwheel. Going to work, eating. sleeping and repeating. And one day we might just be gone, without warning. Enjoy life while you have it, and escape the hamster cage if you can. Tomorrow is never granted.
As someone who struggles to accept death and moving on, there is something SO special about this song I can't describe it. It's helped me come to terms with stuff and 'I was ready, all along,' is in my head 24/7. When my mental health is bad it's there, when whatever is happening it's there and I accept my readiness. I can't express how thankful I am for Kevin's work.
@M K I'm not here to knock your belief but as a person who questions things, why do you people keep saying that, over and over? It never happens and you keep waiting for it to do so. I don't believe in fairytales or sky master's but if that's your thing, then so be it.
It's not the dying part that is scary, it's dying and realising what you've been doing for so long was meaningless, even though at the time you thought it was what gave your life meaning.
This song to me seems to be about anxiety. Let it happen quite literally meaning let it happen; just let go and accept what happens. To me this song is about accepting that you can't always be in control.
I find more interesting and philosophical the "fear of death and its feeling" kind of meaning for this song. I didn't like the way Kevin view Let It Happen, he said it was a song about how we accept changes and just let them happen towards our life, that meaning feels a little basic, at least for me.
I percieved it that way as well, especially because I have health anxiety and am convinced I'm dying multiple times a day and I play out each scenario. Every. Day. Medication has helped but I found this song because I'm scrolling to distract from my current fears instead of sleeping.
I swear to god this is the best song ever made in the history of Human mankind. The feelings I get from this song especially at the end is so indescribable but at he same time so good, i almost cry every time listening to the end of the Song. Im so happy This Song exists
When I was in middle school, I had an extra nerve in my heart that would sometimes cause it to short circuit. I'd spontaneously get tachycardia where my heart would race rapidly and not pump blood efficiently. Similar to how a roller coaster can make your stomach feel weightless, I'd feel like I was falling even while standing or laying down. The lack of oxygen in my blood would make my vision narrow... Even the feeling of a constricted chest or feeling trapped by your own body is all brilliantly depicted with the numerous buckles from the airplane seat. They nailed all the sensations: The pain, the panic, the confusion, the calm, and even perception of reality during brain death. This video REALLY reaches me on a raw and primal level.
I dont know why but even after like 20 times of listening this track I get chills everytime at the part when Kevin sings "and if I never come back, tell my mother im sorry" and the melody kicks in. Even tho I like album version more I think this is great "radio edit" of my favourite currents song.
Theim Ipa the fact that the video captures that PERFECTLY... seeing as how that's the only line that 'someone' speaks in the entire vid... just... perfect PERFECT.
When the guitar hits I feel a small part of my soul coming back to life, and with each consequent note played I feel more and more alive. What a fantastic song!
Remember: If you get anxiety attack, just let the brain heat. Dont pay attention to it. Instead view the whole situation in third person, you will calm your brain by doing this. Cause it gets confused and neurons stop firing. My fav song of Tame impala until now.

Also, the confused face and act he has at the beginning, is showing our stressful and empty modern lifestyle. It's all work and a being scared of "whirlwind" taking everything if we don't fit in the system...
I think this is the perfect explanation to the video without getting too meta or over analyzing!
Wow you nailed the explanation of the video.

@@Immafraid Think of it as a reward for sticking with the song for 7 minutes and 47 seconds.
that part during the live show was just a perfect musical and visual experience
The build up from there is amazing too
The scenes where the man is suspended in the darkened clouds as they are shocking his heart to bring him back are so beautifully done. I love how he's suspended and writhes his body around, and then the white graphics trail out from around him as they shock him. Cinematically this is really beautifully done.
It is my favorite part of the video. Beautiful.
Couldn’t agree more, it’s so creative and beautifully done.
And the music around that part. It's a masterpiece
Thanks for putting this into words, I was just feeling the same way - great video overall, but that part really sticks in my head!
I also love the bit where it transitions from him being on the plane looking at the giant alarm clock to being back in the hotel room - the actor does a terrific job of portraying the confusion and panic.

One of the greatest music videos of all time
The visual metaphor at 3:12 is stunning.
Lol we get it it’s not that deep lol
Alright enough over analyzing this video I dont think it's that deep
That was beautiful. The structure, verbiage even down to the metaphor. Brilliant‼️😭❤️

Tame impala is'nt a band
correction, tame impala isn’t a band, it’s a single lone composer!
I'm 24 years old and they're coming to São Paulo for a concert this week, and I'm overflowing with happiness.
Heaven. Come to Jesus Christ, and you'll see the best afterlife!

Holy crap thats a deep video. It's a good movie idea honestly.

@Thinking Man you can't know. you could just be a brain in a jar being fed information and you could never know.
Thinking Man Because we can feel pain
It's not the dying part that is scary, it's dying and realising what you've been doing for so long was meaningless, even though at the time you thought it was what gave your life meaning.
This song to me seems to be about anxiety. Let it happen quite literally meaning let it happen; just let go and accept what happens. To me this song is about accepting that you can't always be in control.
It's about death and letting go
I find more interesting and philosophical the "fear of death and its feeling" kind of meaning for this song.
Every. Day.
