I love the 1970 to 1973 Formula Firebird and a true Pontiac fellow I love what you fellows have done to this car right down to the colors. My son and I agree that putting stripes on a formula does not look right as they do for the Camaro. Seeing this has made me change my mind you pulled in off. Real classy You guys real good seeing what you did this car. Great choices in just the right way keeping the original look with just a touch of modern look and a lot of modern tech. Its still a blast to drive an original Formula 400 as they are radical. I would love to feel this ride on this car
Man, the second-gen (small bumper) F-Car was one of GM's best designs. This is a stunning build. Love those door handles, they look "factory", unlike the crap looking ones that builders buy from Kindig. Car has a very mean stance. Well done Detroit Speed, well done.
I like it. The second generation firebird will always be my favorite. I honestly believe GM could revive Pontiac and build brand new second generation firebirds and trans am’s and they would sell like hot cakes.
I was born in '71, and I'm trying to decide on my favorite car of that year. I had an '85 Trans Am and my favorite '60s car is the '68 Firebird. You guys are making it difficult for me with this one. The paint is incredible. I must be a Pontiac fan because this is the best 1971 car I've seen.
That's a whole bunch of work done on this car and with taste! Always pity to see a Chevrolet engine under the hood instead of a Pontiac, for the rest a nice build 👍 Cheers from France
@detroitspeed - great job on that aluminum rear spoiler! While there maybe some disagreement on the engine choice it’s a very tasteful build - not overly modern. I would have preferred to keep or replicate the beautiful engine-turned dash of the original though. I always thought that was really cool.
What type of horsepower is this beautiful firebird laying down? I don't think I heard that mentioned. Checked the website didn't see it there either. Is this top secret confidential info?
Detroit Speed, you guys are very , very good at what you do. Could you please recommend this owner to go to "Butler Pontiac Performance" and put a Pontiac motor in this car. The LS is a great motor, but this is a Pontiac, it deserves a proper Pontiac motor.
You’re seriously telling Detroit speed what to do ?! Lolz yeah right away! They know what their doing this is a 200m plus build and these guys don’t mess around there’s a reason why they chose that engine combo.
No one is ruining anything. These guys are on a league of their own. In fact they’re the only ones that stay true to original design and the key elements that made these cars. You might not follow the market but some of these resto mods are bringing big money in some cases more than original cars.
Looks like I'm going to be that one guy who'll probably not be popular but oh well I guess .Was digging the build up till the non functional ram air intakes and the non Pontiac motor . Not a whole lot of these cars around anymore and almost every time I see a build video they've gutted the original motor and transmission trying to make it like a Corvette . Too bad real Pontiacs died in the early 80s after they started putting Chevy or Japanese equipment in anything that had a Pontiac badge . Had a 71 Firebird and a 73 Camaro and they definitely weren't the same beasts at all .The Firebird was built better all around and had that unique Pontiac sound and character .I'm currently working on a 1970 Grand Prix with all the original equipment .I've had some people suggest that I put the performance built small block I have sitting in my shop but there's no way I'd do that to that big beast .Too much of a hassle to convert and for what reason when the original 400 ci worked just fine ? Well to each their own I guess .
Btw, I love Pontiacs, but Pontiac did it first. In fact my first Pontiac, a 1991 Trans Am had a SB Chevy in it…factory installed. My current ‘77 Trans Am is a W72 WS6 4 speed 400 and at times I wish Pontiac had put a big block Chevy in her…
@@divadyrdnal We have a white and blue striped 1972 455 HO 4 speed A/C car. 4 wheel disks, composite rear leaf springs, and frame connectors. With out header the rollerized and F.I. 455 H.O. round port motor made. 485 hp and 540 torque. It can be done up with more power but I think is it enough in a 50 year old car. Still all Pontiac though.
This bird is on another level... incredible fit, finish and customization

Thank you!!
The best looking car ever made!
Nice build, not over done. That cup holder is a great idea 👍
Awesome build guys. Such a timeless body style on the early Gen2 Firebirds. I wish my old’71 looked this this good 😄
same lol

Yup couldn’t agree more. I don’t know why anyone would have a car built by kindig.
I’d buy a set of those fog lights in a heart beat!

What a beautiful car. Please do more videos like this

Let's see, in 71 , camaro with a big block Chevy my favorite car
Sweet! I'm glad to see someone finally do the rear bumper in body color.
If only I had money. Would love to have them build my 1980 corvette suspension with their updated parts.
Where can i purchase those front LED turn signals
That’s one cool Bird 😊
Those two far left and right hood latches underneath is a damn good idea. They eliminate the need for hood pins.
Deb is a smart and lucky woman! Beautiful car and a blast at the track!
Para mí es haberlo conducido por las carreteras de Morris Plains New Jersey en el 71 es algo increíble

Work of art!
Love these cars, this one is very well done!

The crate LS7 makes roughly 500 hp!

@@purepony It's called a suggestion. Calm down.
When are y'all going to sell those door handles
I’m wondering the same thing!

Who makes the mini tubs
Those are our mini tubs for the 1970-81 GM F-body! Part number 040403DS.
Another fucked up classic ill keep my Brewster Green SD 455 4 speed as is ..some people just have to ruin old iron

200k to build?
1970 cougar build?

What would it cost to build something like this?
200k plus I’m guessing
Who makes carbon fiber nose peace for 70 to 73
The carbon fiber nose was supplied by the customer when we received the car. Pretty sure it came from Anvil Auto!
Everything but the interior especially if you're spending 6 figures
Интересно цена...ILS "shekel"
Not my cup of tea. I'd rather see that classic Pontiac in it's original form
Good thing no one is asking you to drink.
Boring
LS engine?
No way not in my garage. LS engines are not Pontiac. Now you have a half breed that in 20 years no one will want. Good job.

I'll take a LS over a Pontiac boat anchor any day. Same power and much lighter makes for an excellent track car, which is what this is.
@@scarbourgeoisie Just put it in a piece of junk Chevy then. Keep it out of a Pontiac. Chinesium doesn't belong in there.
YES, each engine has it's own character. THE Pontiac engine if done right has a high midrange.
