This is now one of my favorite builds of all time, its a perfect mix of a roadkill style build, with hoonigan “ain’t care” attitude, and amazing engineering.
Now this is a build to be proud of. Not a trailer queen and not to pretty to let some rain get on it. This is the true meaning of car enthusiast. No glitter paint, no neon decals and underbody lights. Just a machine with a purpose! Love it👍

The Formula 400 R is the most insane realization of a childhood dream that I've ever seen. My first car in HS was a 71 Formula 400, and around that time 1995, summit racing built a car named the quadradeuce. It was a hot rod with a modern awd drive-train. I remember reading that article and looking at my Firebird and thinking to myself... what if... I never told anyone, but apparently Greg heard me.

That yellow is cracked and crazing like that because it's latex house paint from 1982😅 Not my work. Some kid in Pine Valley Utah did it and put the decals and plastic tape graphics on the side. It had a 360hp 69 Grand Prix engine when I sold it. I wonder where that is?
It's so scabby and rough but you know it's functionally built and it'll work every time, it's the epitome of muscle car ratrod which is a fusion that hasn't quite caught on yet.

Take those ideas and try again in your late 30s - 40s and this is what you get. A mean, bad as f!#k, asphault ripping machine that looks like it has been decomissioned when in reality its been reconditioned.
It is amazing the time and effort this guy went to, finding different parts and making his own. That is the level of automotive skill I'd like to have.

Love it. I'm a 70-73 Firebird guy for sure. I love the engineering coupled with junkyard parts then engineering and internals where it matters. Great photography too! However... that's no Trans Am... Firebird fenders with no fender vents and a Formula hood... yeah, it was probably all cobbled from a junk yard too and.. .yeah, I dig it! Now... can I drive it??? :)

This GUY is my hero!! I loved the junkyard engineering! I loved doing that too! Had kids and left it alone. I remember those days walking through the aisles with toolbox, tape measure and caliper ! Some many parts are interchangeable if you have the knowledge! You can find stock parts that are Heavy Duty for your ride!
Yeh, A kiwi will always crack a grin when discussing where or how the parts were acquired and adapted because inside were laughing uncontrollably in the knowledge that the component was made for a ton less $$$ and often works better than some exclusive high ticket super fruity tricked out shelf item someone with more money/less skill purchased, and a certain learned trick to get it working together is the one important thing being kept to ourselves. Cue mental image of someone sitting on the garage floor surrounded by scavenged parts and a beer, cursing profusely, stupefied as to why his bits don't go together like the ones seen on youtube.

I grew up with Gen2 Firebirds and Camaros. I absolutely loved my transam hotwheel cars and through family friends I rode in a black 79 T/A. Love it

It is, sort of. 1000hp LS swap with AWD. The paint job is there too. I use it for Forzathons.

I think I can say that car is the most creative, engineering marvel of a Frankenstein monster (in a super-cool way) that I've ever seen. Just awesome!
