I can't think of another band where I can contentedly listen to every album, every live performance every week and not only not get tired of them but find new appreciation in them after all these years. This year's tour has been VERY encouraging and I really look forward to a new album in a few years.
I hear you man, just went to the San Francisco show. Ween goes back with me to high school and to my years in the Navy in Italy where we literally listened to the Mollusk in an Italian Lighthouse on the Mediterranean Coast near palau, Italy while we painted and drank ate and made merry. Probably the only band I've listened to so consistently that long. I wish they'd make a reggae album like "Fruit Man"
The first Ween song I heard was Big Jilm in 1993. I fell in love with it. Then this album. Then Ween. I've been a fan for 23 years now and although I take breaks here and there, I always return and discover something new. I don't want to say that they're underrated because people who know Ween know that they are the best shit ever. What I'll say instead is that only the right people have discovered and embraced them. I think that was the intention all along anyways. Ween is a perfect example of a truly brilliant and successful band that played it off legit and grew with it's audience for their whole career. I can't think of a more talented and innovative band that has ruled four sometimes very progressive musical decades so hard.
GauntLife Due to having someone in my life who apparently is JUST LIKE Big Jilm, that song will forever haunt me. That person really fucked me up, man.
oh my oh my reading all these flashback comments from other 30-40 somethings makes me feel so connected right now, i dont know why i cannot die i dont know you got me high it gets mehigh..aaaa.... we are all still little birdies
One of my friends showed me this band as a joke cuz he liked one song. They are now easily in my top ten bands if not in my top five. I have delved through all of their albums and have yet to not be amazed by them. This and Quebec are my all times jams, followed closely by The Mollusk
way, way back in my "time" here, I was turned on to this band..this album..I'll be 49 in 6 day's, and my life had been transformed by this album some 25 fucking years ago! Holy Fuck
I totally understand and agree with the person above me. I love both songs and have shared dark moments with them. Do I understand both of the songs? Not really. Not really meant to I feel. Do I want to? Kinda. But I never will stop listening to ween.
I really like this album now. Scared me a few years back. The "White Album" use to disturb me too - but now its my favorite Beatle's album. So, the disturbing / challenging stuff is what you go back to I guess ? And speaking of the "White Album", "Mourning Glory" is the "Revolution #9" of "Pure Guava" - so I will defend it.
Fuck sakes. I missed out on ween through high school. NO IDEA how my circle of friends had never even heard of them. It wasn't in a decade after high school that I discovered them. But to be honest, I feel like it was fate and a perfect time, as I was completely bored of music in general, nothing excited me anymore. What's strange is we were all pretty into Primus, and Mike Patton etc... back in the day. Boggles the mind.
gaunt life, you don't talk enough! ween....true and real genius. satirical, paradoxical, lyrical, musical mind-melting fun. when things get rough, IF I'm with it enough to remember that i have ween to make me feel better , they NEVER EVER fail me. I ALWAYS feel lighter, brighter and bolder after a good session.. this record, by the way, is one of my top tens. if u think that I'm a loser well you suck....
To me this album is like the epitome of those nights when you've smoked so much weed that you doze off before you finish your drink, and then you wake up next to it not realizing how long you've been asleep and the concept of turning your head enough degrees to see a clock is simply beyond you in that moment, so you inadvertently get drunker than you've been all night at 5 in the morning, which makes the weed act up again so within a minute you're like panicking, crying, laughing and falling asleep again all at once....

Was it accidental? Were drugs used? Or were you attempting an out of body experience while listening to this album? I'd like to know more about your experience, if you don't mind sharing.
Dulan Thanks, it's been five months, but I think I'm calmed down now. Too bad Rufus Reefer didn't care to tell us about his first out-of-body experience.
Ween always makes me smile. Perfectly captures the spirit of goofing off with your best friend, only they possess so much talent that their one off "goofs" come off as art.
Mourning Glory made me cry a little when I first listened to it for some reason. It didn't scare me, no. It was oddly...moving. As if I could relate to it somehow
I feel deeply towards that every song on this album was created during individual acid trips!!! also, "the goin gets tough from the getgo" reminds me of the twins from super jail

I used to blast it on college radio all the time. Probably out of sadism towards the listeners, but I did blast it on college radio all the time, and not because I hated it.
I was a Ween fan before you. I know their catalog better than you. I appreciate Ween in ways you will never understand. Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention . . . . "Brown." BOOM!!!!
I'm gonna be real, I was listening to this album when I was like 8 years old in the early 90s. I find it to be formative.
did you shit your pants from the off-the-charts brownness of mourning glory
One of the dopest albums ever recorder. Quite a unique and charmingly haunting sound.
I can't think of another band where I can contentedly listen to every album, every live performance every week and not only not get tired of them but find new appreciation in them after all these years. Absolutely! ,,been in my rotation since livin' with a bunch of friends in a tear down the house type situation in my early 20's with GodWeenSatan
Chris Weeks nicely said, mangggg.
Chris Weeks I feel the same about Primus
I really don't like ranking Ween albums, because they're all good. But this one has always been my favorite. So weird and raw

Joel Porter So you were 24? Damn, I'm listening at 17.
Getting old is weird huh? Sure isn't as I expected (in a good way). 53 and I can't believe it, don't know how I got here.
A lot of this is not easy to listen to, but I cannot stop. The Pod is like that too
some of the songs on the pod, like molly, hurt to listen to, but then there is Mourning Glory
I totally understand and agree with the person above me. I love both songs and have shared dark moments with them. Do I understand both of the songs? Not really. Not really meant to I feel. Do I want to? Kinda. But I never will stop listening to ween.

If you want disturbing but utterly brilliant, check out Disco Volante by Mr bungle. It is mindblowing.
Also insane that a major label approved it.

If your goal already is to get wasted, I recommend doing so to Pure Guava for reasons that will become clear in that action.
Evan J Don't listen to this man, if you get wasted during Mourning Glory you will want to die, immediately
