    As a a father of five myself! They (mine) are in the late 20s and early 30s. It is awesome to see a great dad! Just so you know I built a Spitfire Replica for my boys as my father was An RCAF bomber pilot back in the day. I taught them that the English Spitfire is you... Courageous! Fast! and the best! My boys all do what you do and love your channel. I personally love seeing your kids hanging with the samara! Reminds me of decades ago with my gang!
    For me I had 3 Sons but was blessed with 2 twin girls. Good call stopping at 4 boys 😉

    Reminds me of a time a few years ago I was a leader for my son's beaver colony. I organized a fun day and asked the parents to send the kids with all their water pistols, super soakers, etc. Had one of the Mom's say she would bring out a bunch of stuff for the kids to shoot at. I said "Why, you have 23 little targets running around right here". The horrified look on her face was priceless. Man, that was a fun day, but did I ever pay the price, as I was the biggest target. Enjoy these times with your boys, they grow fast.

    You might want to rework the heads a bit. I've played LARP (live action roleplaying) for a number of years - and we practically invented 'safe' arrows. Here's what I'd suggest based on 20 odd years of having arrows shot at me...
    The problem with your current setup is the tip of the dowel can push through the foam - especially after a couple of impacts. We fasten a coin to the end of the dowel inside the head to increase the surface area.
    Those balls are designed to bounce! Most eye damage from these kinds of arrows comes from the tail end bouncing back off a shield or similar. There's no protection around the feathers. Mate of mine lost his cornea to a bounce back :-(
    We now have arrow heads that are a combination of foams - 1 that deforms quickly to absorb the impact, the other that deforms slowly to prevent the bounce back.

      Richard Allsebrook Thinking the same thing man. Great solution with the coin.
      They should definitely wear eye protection. And make them swear to never shoot at anyone not playing with them.

      No offense intended - sorry 'bout yer mate. Didn't click the more button first time. Wasn't a good spot to put me comment under yours! Might have to behave meself

      Dude, the reason we started banning and limiting some toys like this is because kids were getting seriously hurt or even killed.
      Hell, people mock tobogganing bans but kids do get killed and suffer serious injuries to tobogganing. What's ridiculous is it doesn't mean you can't throw snowballs, or build snowmen. It doesn't mean you can't set up safe courses for kids to use toboggans with proper safety gear.

    +The Samurai Carpenter All of the things you have made your family are so much better than going to the store and purchasing something. They have come from the heart and are extremely thoughtful! Such cool gifts that are now going to be heirlooms in your family that can be passed down from generation to generation. So awesome to see someone taking the time to do things like this to me the time you spend doing these projects means so much more than earning money to go and buy these things.

      That reminds me of Lawn Darts. Large plastic darts with a steel spike on the end.. Of coarse, the original game came with large plastic circles looking things that these particular projectiles were supposed to be thrown into at distance. But, we kids were creative and invented our own game by throwing these darts into the air as hard as we could. The object of the game was simple. The last person to run was the winner. The thought of the large metal spike impaling a child in the top of the head never once crossed our minds. Yeah,... to this day, it's a wonder any of us survived our childhood.

    With the heatgun: heat up the inner side of the curve, where the fibers have to be compressed. The outer side is under tension and should not be weakened.

    Amazing job samurai! I do have one suggestion/ nostalgic feeling. When I was a kid I had a bow and arrow similar to this that had a hole drilled right the middle of the handle that you stuck the arrows end through and then onto the string. I found this a lot easier as a kid. You may want to try it? It would only take like 2 minutes to drill a hole big enough

    • @calebcothron3556
      @calebcothron3556 7 лет назад +6

      it works for all woods. all wood has lignin, it usually makes up about 25% of the wood composition but some woods have more or less. it's mainly in the space between the wood cells, the cells being what you or I perceive as the wood fibers, wood cells are like long thin tiny tubes. the lignin glues all the fibers together, heat softens up the lignin and allows a little bit more movement until it cools down and the lignin hardens up again. it's the same principle that's used to bend chair backs or guitar sides. I took a wood science class this past semester as part of my forestry degree, I know more than I ever thought I wanted to know about wood anatomy lol
