Lmao! "I`m sure there will be some tears but hopefully no injuries." I love it.
As a a father of five myself! They (mine) are in the late 20s and early 30s. It is awesome to see a great dad! Just so you know I built a Spitfire Replica for my boys as my father was An RCAF bomber pilot back in the day. I taught them that the English Spitfire is you... Courageous! Fast! and the best! My boys all do what you do and love your channel. I personally love seeing your kids hanging with the samara! Reminds me of decades ago with my gang!
For me I had 3 Sons but was blessed with 2 twin girls. Good call stopping at 4 boys 😉
Know what I like most about these videos? He isn't beating shop safety down our throats. I'm all for safety, but I believe comfort and confidence plays a lot in that.
Second best dad ever. Your kids are going to enjoy themselves for hours
You're a great father for doing projects like that for your kids
Reminds me of a time a few years ago I was a leader for my son's beaver colony. I organized a fun day and asked the parents to send the kids with all their water pistols, super soakers, etc. Had one of the Mom's say she would bring out a bunch of stuff for the kids to shoot at. I said "Why, you have 23 little targets running around right here". The horrified look on her face was priceless. Man, that was a fun day, but did I ever pay the price, as I was the biggest target. Enjoy these times with your boys, they grow fast.
You might want to rework the heads a bit. I've played LARP (live action roleplaying) for a number of years - and we practically invented 'safe' arrows. Here's what I'd suggest based on 20 odd years of having arrows shot at me...
The problem with your current setup is the tip of the dowel can push through the foam - especially after a couple of impacts. We fasten a coin to the end of the dowel inside the head to increase the surface area.
Those balls are designed to bounce! Most eye damage from these kinds of arrows comes from the tail end bouncing back off a shield or similar. There's no protection around the feathers. Mate of mine lost his cornea to a bounce back :-(
We now have arrow heads that are a combination of foams - 1 that deforms quickly to absorb the impact, the other that deforms slowly to prevent the bounce back.
Richard Allsebrook Thinking the same thing man. Great solution with the coin.
They should definitely wear eye protection. And make them swear to never shoot at anyone not playing with them.
for f#ck sakes!
Don Finch problem mate?
just kids, they'll be fine (enough) . Had pointy arrows when I was a kid! Was all the safety comments, I happened to react on your comment.
No offense intended - sorry 'bout yer mate. Didn't click the more button first time. Wasn't a good spot to put me comment under yours! Might have to behave meself
Dude, the reason we started banning and limiting some toys like this is because kids were getting seriously hurt or even killed.
Hell, people mock tobogganing bans but kids do get killed and suffer serious injuries to tobogganing. What's ridiculous is it doesn't mean you can't throw snowballs, or build snowmen. It doesn't mean you can't set up safe courses for kids to use toboggans with proper safety gear.
I loved this video, I really miss my little boys. They are all grown up now. Last year I made my 3 boys a sling bow out of PVC and exercise bands which shoots a full size arrow. Your awesome keep up the good work. Enjoy those boys while you got them. Love your channel.
"I'm sure there will be some tears" perfect dad
Tears are part of the process, dude! My dad gave me a pack of smokes and a .22. I lived thru it, so did my playmates.
+The Samurai Carpenter All of the things you have made your family are so much better than going to the store and purchasing something. They have come from the heart and are extremely thoughtful! Such cool gifts that are now going to be heirlooms in your family that can be passed down from generation to generation. So awesome to see someone taking the time to do things like this to me the time you spend doing these projects means so much more than earning money to go and buy these things.
I regularly release tension in the wood. See this is why I come to this channel. I feel understood.
FeroxCious I see what u did there
you watching through peep hole?
The things you do for your kids are amazing. Keep being their hero.
We used to shoot sharpened willow sticks at each other with homemade bows, all good fun!
Awesome project, beautiful bows!
Great project, kids will be happy with this
I think this is the best gift idea I have ever seen. Your boys are going to love it. Keep up the great work.
Good father, good craftsman, great Christmas. Enjoy the holidays.
Jesse your a big inspiration in my life.. As a cabinetmaker and father this video is like gold! It looks like you had a lot of fun making it. If I had the means I'd fly out and have a beer with you so you're not lonely at the bar. Cheers! From Nova Scotia
They look great! Hope you and your family have a splendid Christmas.
My brother gave me a novelty version of these made from PVC. We played with em for hours in college, then the dog took a liking to them and they didn't last much longer. I'll have to make another set eventually.
Nice...... like it.... and the boys will love them..... Have Fun!
My favorite presents always brought me pain. I remember nearly slicing my thumb off mere minutes after receiving a beautiful Puukko carving knife from my dad one Christmas. I tried to pretend nothing happened until my mom saw the blood soaked rag around my hand.
Thank you for the inspiration! I had some beech kicking around the shop so made bows for my boys last night. The heat gun was key. They had WAY too much power before easing the tension. I just ordered some foam balls. I can't wait to for Christmas now! I might have to make myself one also! Thanks again!
i love you making things for your boys and wife. well done. keep up the good work
You sir, is an awesome dad! Hope someday I´ll have a workarea where i can do woodworking. Keep up the good work! Wish you and your family a great christmas!
For kids? I'm make a set for my buddies and myself! :)
awwn... this is precious, genuine and unique.
this video me remember that my pop made a wooden katana for me when I was a kid. :')
just one of the many things that make you a cool dad!
LOL, reminds me of the bow my Dad made me except it was a shooter. Told me to never shoot straight up in the air but it didn't take long to figure out how fun that was.
That reminds me of Lawn Darts. Large plastic darts with a steel spike on the end.. Of coarse, the original game came with large plastic circles looking things that these particular projectiles were supposed to be thrown into at distance. But, we kids were creative and invented our own game by throwing these darts into the air as hard as we could. The object of the game was simple. The last person to run was the winner. The thought of the large metal spike impaling a child in the top of the head never once crossed our minds. Yeah,... to this day, it's a wonder any of us survived our childhood.
Hay ...Samurai .. Merry Christmas to you and your family .. and to everyone else out their in Samurai Land .. Great Year and thank you for all the neat projects !! Keep it up!!
Dude, I have four boys and this is a project I am totally gonna make for them. thanks for all the great videos, tips and such
Thanks for the inspiration. I made one today for my boy. Though it took me 7 tries and 8 hours to get one that did not break. Guess I still have a bit to learn. Maybe some day I'll be able to bust one out in an hour also.
What a brilliant x-mas gift! I know I'd be pumped to receive that and I'm 33 lol
In my kid's kindergarten they shoot something like those when they go fighting in the woods, or at the two-storey ply-castle they have. It's good fun!
Freaking awesome. I absolutely love your attitude. So different from alot of parents these days. Your Boys are going to love them. Have a great Christmas.
What a great gift for your boys, bet they last longer than shop bought as well.
you are a talented individual my friend.
Just watched this with my 6 year old daughter. She wants a set now too!
Wish I had a nice dad like you trying to make some good family times
With the heatgun: heat up the inner side of the curve, where the fibers have to be compressed. The outer side is under tension and should not be weakened.
Hey man. Your projects are always waaaaay more complex than they need to be but the results are always soooo extraordinary. Thanks for the inspirational videos throughout the year. I will never achieve your standard but you keep me trying. Merry Christmas to you and the family.
Awesome, I know I would have loved these as a kid!
Very very cool man !! what a nice gift to your 2 young boys !! After 3 or 4 years you need to do 4 pieces of the same toy :)) But i'm sure it will be a pleasure for you !! Good job done man !! Congratulation and happy new year !!
your boys will love there set
these videos are so relaxing.
Maestro! saludos desde Costa Rica!! su trabajo es admirable
Some tears will make them remember the present LOL.
great present the old fashioned toys are the best merry Xmas to you and your kin
Those arrows need some wood feathers dovetailed into the ends, like a shaker pedestal table!
Great gift -video!
Awesome man! I'm sure you all will have a blast with those.
Well done sir, I can't wait to make this for my 5 year old boy. And just maybe one for me as well. Thanks for the inspiration Jesse
You better add some fletchings to those arrows! Then they'll fly so true that your kids will cry with every draw lol! They'll be happy with those non Chinese gifts!
What a great project!

Makita pulled their potential sponsorship... Samurai opens DayCare Warrior Camp
Surely the kids will have fun... can't make the world safe- glad you're being a Dad!!!
Top stuff, mate. Better than a lump of plastic bought at the shop
So awesome the boys are going to love them. Wishing you and your family and friends a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Quality toys from a top dad! Merry Christmas to you and your family 🎁🏹🏹⛄️🎄
Amazing job samurai! I do have one suggestion/ nostalgic feeling. When I was a kid I had a bow and arrow similar to this that had a hole drilled right the middle of the handle that you stuck the arrows end through and then onto the string. I found this a lot easier as a kid. You may want to try it? It would only take like 2 minutes to drill a hole big enough
Yo samurai, you should make a bid daddy longbow, they are really cool and would be right up your alley.
Such a cool dad! Good job buddy!
I love your parenting advice 👍
How would the samurai carpenter build a treehouse or a playscape for kids?
That'd be a cool video to watch
I will be making this for the Grandson, I been scrambling for ideas for a few more Christmas presents.
the content of your videos dude has massively improved since ya gave makita the boot!!
can't wait to make them
you are great ,cool gifts for your kids merry chrismas ( i like so much your channel) ☺
Good job bro! My pops got me into archery when I was a kid and I've been shooting ever since! Train up a child in the way he should go! Lol. Merry Christmas to you and yours.
great idea. Merry Christmas
Hope you and you're family have a great Christmas.
From largeteapot (mick) here in the U/K.
Thanks for the vids.
Dad being cute :) I don't work not even near with this field but I like to see your videos, they are so honest :) and I like to see wood works :)
I'm squinting really hard trying to see if you used flat or quartered grain orientation for the bows. Looking to make a couple of these this week.
Thoughtful, craftsman dad....
I enjoy ever video you make!!! Keep on the good work
amazing! nice vid, nice gift, nice dad!
"youll shoot ur eye out kid!" never knew that about the heat..now is that just with maple or does that work for all hard/soft woods
it works for all woods. all wood has lignin, it usually makes up about 25% of the wood composition but some woods have more or less. it's mainly in the space between the wood cells, the cells being what you or I perceive as the wood fibers, wood cells are like long thin tiny tubes. the lignin glues all the fibers together, heat softens up the lignin and allows a little bit more movement until it cools down and the lignin hardens up again. it's the same principle that's used to bend chair backs or guitar sides. I took a wood science class this past semester as part of my forestry degree, I know more than I ever thought I wanted to know about wood anatomy lol
Caleb Cothron thanks man!&thats awesome! Hey, the more u know the better..knowledge is power!🖒🖒
Awesome stuff. Hopefully, you have lamps and other breakables glued down in your house. :)
Love it. I promised my neighbors boy a bow, after I made him an elastic gun :)
Very cool !! I would just add some kind of feathers to make sure the arrow reorient itself in the safe direction faster if it get deviated by something while traveling :)
proper gifts!
Amazing work ! gonna try it out my self.
This woodworking book is really detailed, *TopFineWoodworking. Com* ! With the aid of this plan, I was able to use words, drawings, real images and different diagrams. It is really an informative product. I am presently making furniture together with my brother and thanks to this product, I feel like helping him is possible.?
You should have made one for you. When they get to laughing and giggling you won't be able to stand it so go on and make you one. Oh yeah, make yours just as weak as theirs.
God Bless my friend.
Tough love!!!
