    Great idea with the lower position of the handle and the symmetrical arrangement of the shelves - you can shoot both Mediterranean from the left shelf and Eastern style from the right shelf! Cool!)

    Great project. (but then again you could just go out and buy a 30# bow) I have been shooting for over 70 years, even owned an archery store, and now still have a collection of about 45 bows in my garage. I have taught many boys and girls to shoot, and get into archery. I think this man has hit upon a fabulous project for a father and son or daughter. Doctor George Whitehead

  • @recursr1892

    Very impressed, especially how easy you split the fiberglas, as well how precise your cut works are done 👍
    -so you cut off 4cm each limb, made the hande stiff (12cm?)- so took away ca 20cm/8 inch and that tripled the draw weight? It als depends on brace height-that was a bit more than before, rising the pretension-and your drawlength stayed the same?
    Pretty impressed how big the effect was here and the elegant method for adding a recurve to the fiberglas tips. That will work also with wood laminates, i have to remember that.

  • @batmanimal5993

    A lot of effort has gone into that, and it's great. The only thing I would change is the string around the top of the handle block for the arrows guide. Something more solid is needed because it only takes a days worth of arrows for the friction from each one, passing it to burn through and eventually eating the fibre glass, creating a weak point

    I've got two bows at home that are almost exactly that size. I've been into archery for many years now and family/ friends will often give me stuff they find in a garage or attic that's archery related. I have two "bowhunting kits" from the 60s or 70s, one a Ben Pearson and the other a Colt (yes, the firearms manufacturer). Both include what looks like a kid-sized fiberglass recurve bow, three wood shaft broadhead tipped arrows, a finger tab, and a paper deer target. Despite their small size, the bows are each 45# draw weight, the minimum for hunting in most US states.

    • @Helmbowman

      Yes, size can be deceptive, few years ago i made fiberglass bow for a friend, which is 45inches long and pulls 105lbs at 28inches, Fiberglass can handle a lot of stress

    A noisy sucker isn’t it? Did you chrono the bow. I’d like to know the arrow speed. It was spitting them out!
    Re: my other comment about semi-flexible siyahs I should have noted the strip of wood used to create the siyah would be glued on parallel to the belly or back not perpendicular as a proper siyah is attached. I don’t know if it would be better on the back or the belly and if the siyah should be thicker near the nocks and taper toward the runout of the recurve.
    Any ideas, comments?

    • @Helmbowman
      @Helmbowman  6 месяцев назад

      I don’t have chrono jet, but it seems pretty fast… I would glue strip of wood to the belly side, like to have fiberglass on back to handle tension and would go for thicker but narrower siyah near the nock that becomes wider but thiner toward mid limb

  • @bozzskaggs112
    @bozzskaggs112 6 месяцев назад

    I was expecting you to undercut the handle on the belly side and starting from under the handle use a strip of osage, rowan or some other high compression wood to be the belly against the fiberglass back. With that as a consideration could a flexing siyah be added to the recurve to make the last 15-20% of each limb stiffer than the rest if the bow? That might give levers that also store energy.

    1-I am afraid it will break if I push it too hard, am I worried unnecessarily? I know fiberglass is super bendy but my primate brain makes me anxious since I never worked something like this before.
    2-Are n95 mask good enough for fiberglass works or should I invest in something better?

    nice toy
    but with the prices of a good recurve bow at as low as 130 dollars or so..
    not practicle

    smart, but I think using 2 toy bows instead of 1 will give you a more powerful bow... 45/50 lb maybe

    I’m really confused the title said it was kids bow that you got for 10 bucks and it’s deadly but you recurved it put adhesive and took the time well over 5 days to make crack or open change the compound and add a new handle like what? So you need 300 dollar in table saws to make a 10 dollar bow a keeper? Got it

    • @Helmbowman
      @Helmbowman  7 месяцев назад +1

      Title said 10lbs kids bow, and you don’t need any machines to do this, all can be done pretty easily with just hand tools

      @@Helmbowman except you didn’t sir you have table clamps table saws hand clamps hand saws it’s like come on dude imagine this you come on to this videos trying to make a bow from the 10 buck bow only to see the person has hundreds of dollars in tools lol 😂 it’s like yes you can be a f1 driver if you have the car the shop and money I’m sure 👍

      @@Silentbet1of This video is not about making bow for 10 dollars, title said 10lbs which was strength of the original bow

      10lbs is the pull weight not the price .

      @@Helmbowman just out of curiosity how much did you put in materials and time into this new build ? And how much does the adhesive coast? Seem like the time spent wasn’t worth the time you could have spent making your own bow, plus it seem that you need more then just some hand tools as I didn’t you build it by hand but by tools clamps saws and nothing wrong with it just wonder if this wasn’t more of project for views then the actual practicality of it all idk maybe it’s just me

    LMMFAO if you watch at the same draw length he pulled it back to when drawing it when he sadi 10lbs at the end at that pull its still around 10 lmmfao so he went and pulled it back more then double that length to pretend what he did TRIPLED its weight lmmfao
