    Great tutorial but what exactly does spliting the fiberglass and putting epoxy in between the parts do to it? Couldn't you bend the fiberglass without doing that? Or does it make it stronger?

    • @Helmbowman
      @Helmbowman 5 дней назад

      That is the only way to permanently bend the fiberglass, if you bend it in form without splitting and epoxy it will return to its original shape as soon as you release the clamps, heat bending doesn’t work, so this is the only way… Thanks for watching!

      @@Helmbowman how do you taper the thickness after it is bent? id imagine it would be best split the end first and then grind the taper on a jig whilst still flat and then epoxy and bend but i have not tried this yet, what is your method? thanks again

    • @Helmbowman
      @Helmbowman 3 дня назад

      @Noonenaught It can be tapered before splitting with jig and belt sander, i taper it after bending also with belt sander by feel, without the jig… Soon i will upload a video which covers that, I’ve made a lot of bows without thickness taper with no problem, it is not necessary, but parallel limbs puts most of the stress around the fades (stress is not distributed along the whole working limb) fiberglass can handle that stress in most of the situations, but i prefer to taper

    There's a trick to get the glue all the way into the beginning of the split you stuff in the glue like you did then l use flat type locking clamps /pliers to squeeze the glue in starting from the outside working inwards. not really a great test tbh. When it comes to material designed to stop arrows like foam (and gel aswell), size is the main factor when it comes to penetration. 6.2 hunting arrows penetrate less then 3.2 in foam, it's about a 15-20 cm difference between oly recurve with 120gr points & hunting bow with 200 gr field tips. Both arrow will kill an animal and if you use a 3-1 broadhead they'll both result in a passthrough. Once bone comes into play it's a completely different story however. A better test would be to shoot them through plywood for that 'what if' scenario. The 760gr beast with something like a 300gr vpa 3 blade should prove to be an extremely lethal arrow and pretty much drop anything you come across.

    • @Helmbowman

  • @UncleDanBand64
    @UncleDanBand64 23 дня назад

    Ok, I think all of the heavy foc and heavy arrow has more to do with the "AIMING" Crowd wanting a closer point on distance. Not that there is anything wrong with that. The key is hitting the animal right.

    • @Helmbowman
      @Helmbowman 22 дня назад

      Agree with you friend!

  • @jonabub
    @jonabub 23 дня назад

    I'm not sure I got this right. does this mean, high foc on its own may be responsible for the increase in impulse with heavier arrows? or is weight distribution an additional effect to increased mass? sorry if I misspelled or said sth weird, not my native idiom.

    • @Helmbowman
      @Helmbowman 22 дня назад

      Yes, it seems so 😀

    • @jonabub
      @jonabub 22 дня назад

      Do you think it might have more to do with the angle of attack that improves, or is it that the weight distribution leads to a different distribution of inertia that is more favourable? I could imagine the tail of the arrow having less mass would reduce tail whipping once the tip has entered the matt, since the impulse would be carried in the tip thus having less effect on the friction of the shaft .

    • @Helmbowman
      @Helmbowman 22 дня назад

      It is probably combination of many things, as you said the less mass on the tail saves energy, i also think that high foc arrow fly straighter with less wiggles which also saves energy
