- The retail store 99 Cents Only began its liquidation sale on Friday as it plans to shutter all of its nearly 400 stores by June. There are 10 locations in southern Nevada and more than a dozen across the Silver State.
Also rampant theft! They where also losing a lot to shrinkage.
Not sure why so many news reports are leaving that key reason out? weird.

Shrink isn't just theft. Shrink is also spoiled and damaged products , it's a mismatch between profits and inventory.
Also many many employees are quitting to go to fast food restaurants for the higher pay ($20hr). I was just at the local 99 Cents store a couple of days ago for my cleaning solutions and I asked the cashier, "where is everyone at?" and she said," most employees quit for fast food jobs, now we are short-handed!" I said, "dang that sucks" and then the manager was standing there and she said, "well I have been an assistant manager here for almost 4 years and I only get $18.50 an hour". Our local hotdog shop announced he was closing last month after 12 years in business, as two of his 4 employees went across the street to the chicken place that's closed on Sundays, and one more was planning on leaving. The chicken place starting pay is now $22hr and they still have lines out of the parking lot, though he did not need to raise his wages because of only having the one location, it still got him. I am sorry this is just so sad for everyone all the way round...
Don't forget how 99 cents store refused to hire most people during covid and were short staffed on purpose. Now they feel the consequences plus inflation.

There was no price cut or liquidation when I was there today, they were actually stocking shelves
I lost my job about 2 yrs ago and just bought a house and to be able to make the house payment. I had to buy food and supplies from 99 cents store for 4 months I think it is a great option if you are budget limited or living on a fix income,now I am back on track but hearing this was a little bit sad.

I bought a bunch of stuff there today (Friday, 4/5) and absolutely no prices were reduced. The prices were their everyday low prices. The store had a lot of customers and was getting picked over, but there was no "liquidation. I hate news stations and media that lie.

So sad! The elderly, young families and the poor are really going to miss these stores. We can thank the greedy thieves who steal without remorse and the politicians who enable them with lax laws for this. Dollar stores have thin profit margins. They have to sell A LOT of goods to stay in business. With so many people stealing on a daily basis, they cannot stay open. Shoplifters affect businesses and low income people with their theft and greed.

I have a case with the 99 cent store at the location of Las Vegas Blvd and Cheyenne it will be 3 years July 14th . It's a shame there closing because that's is the only store we have around us , but also I wish they take care of me also .

Multiple years restructuring debt finally caught up to them. 99 Cent Stores used to thrive in and economies/recession like we have now. Once original family sold things went downhill, at the end of the family owned portion they had trouble paying bills.
