Hey everyone, I just uploaded an UPDATED VERSION of this tutorial on the channel! Hard to believe this video was recorded in late 2018! I figured I should update it since a lot has changed, CHECK IT OUT WITH THIS LINK: ruclips.net/video/HEL9Uw3AR9s/видео.html
Thanks Benja! I did this and it worked perfectly! I was so frustrated because my thesis project depended on this! I know it's not much but I'm sending you a hugeeee happy hug now!
Thank you very much man! I've tried getting Windows 10 on my MacBook Pro mid 2012 by using Bootcamp Assistance with no luck. By following your video I was able to get Windows 10 on my Mac. Thank you again!
Here's a couple of IMPORTANT UPDATES (Oct 2019): 1) If you are using the latest version of VirtualBox (6) then you may be having a screen scaling/resolution issue (Everything on the screen is really small). This is a common issue in the new VirtualBox. To fix it all you have to do when you are in the virtual machine is: Click "VirtualBox VM" in the mac menu bar Click "Preferences" Click "Display" You should then see at the bottom a scale factor slider bar. This bar most likely is set to "100%" if you are having the issue. Change it to 200% and that should fix your problem. I do have a video on the channel showing how to fix the problem as well if you would like to see it visually: ruclips.net/video/kxwrtAbUyOY/видео.html 2) Windows 10 received a large May update that is still not appearing for some users. If you would like to install this update to have the latest version of the redesigned windows, then you can manually install it. I have uploaded a tutorial showing you how to do it and you can view it here: ruclips.net/video/c_mGD2AwyIo/видео.html (I also have a video showing how to uninstall it too!) 3) One last thing, thank you all for the support, comment, thumbs up, on this video! Never expected a Windows 10 install to be so popular! Remember if you have any questions, leave a comment! Either myself or another viewer can possibly help you! If you want a quicker response then send a message on instagram (Link in description) since RUclips does not always show me every new notification for comments!
@@daudsheraz8826 It can take a while during the setup process. Mine took a good 10 minutes. If your machine is running slow maybe try to increase your ram or close some apps on your host machine.

I rarely leave comments, but this tutorial helped immensely! I watched 3-4 videos before finding this and he addressed everything I was having issues with.
Bro this video was a life saver! I had an issue where the screen was still not going into full screen, even after applying the Guest additions CD. I went into the "VirtualBox VM" in the Mac menu bar and selected preferences, and then Display. All I had to do was change the "Maximum Guest Screen Size" to "Automatic" and it worked! you don't have to put the screen display to 200%. I hope this helps anyone having the same issue
Tried two other tutorials to install virtual box-they left out key steps. This is an amazing and thorough explanation for installing -it would have saved me hours of grief of I had found it first! Thanks so much!!!!
This is so simple thank you like i have been searching for this a long time without Bootcamp because that's very complex and you need a usb Edit:i have a windows 10 now so I used this on my Mac it was amazing
Amazing tutorial, and everything works for me! Remember, if you're a student, your university probably provides anything Windows for free. I was able to get a free windows key through the University of Cincinnati.
Very good. I had to go to Google to find that dragging the window to resize is needed before full screen will work properly. And that you need left Cmd + F to switch out of full screen.

Hi! Thanks for the video! I would like to know what the minimum configuration I need to have on the mac to run windows through a virtual machine. Thank you very much!!!
I am not sure about minimum requirements. Really any modern MacBook should have you covered. I ran windows 10 on my 2011 MacBook Pro with no issues. You can view the minimum requirements on Microsofts website.

Hi! I'm at around 7:52. After I gave the virtual machine my "Win10_1909_English_x64.iso" file, it still remains saying "FATAL: No bootable medium found! System halted." What should I do?
Just think of it as an application. Just simply close it. To reopen, you can click on the Virtualbox app. Then select your vm on the left side, and click the green start button.
Hi! Very clear video so far. I downloaded windows XP professional (64bit) and got to the point I have to enter a 25-character volume license product key when installing windows on VirtualBox. Any suggestions on how to bypass this?
at 7:53 when i do this, it shows an error message saying kernel driver not installed make sure the kernel module has been loaded successfully even though i downloaded the latest windows 10. Anyone? Thanks. my windows 10iso file is on downloads folder by the way.
That sounds like a permission problem on MacOS. Go to system preferences, then security and privacy, and see if there is an allow button at the bottom of the window. If there is, simply click allow and it should work.
Also when you have an account with Microsoft and you set up everything from your old machine that information validate and activated windows. you no need to pay for other licenses. that is a hint.
Thanks for the tutorial. Would you recommend this for a 128gb, 8gb RAM MacBook air? and if yeah what RAM would you recommend to allocate to the virtual box. If it helps i only plan to use this to run simple softwares for graphing etc . Thanks!
It should work fine. I would pay close attention to storage. 128gb is not that much. It of course depends on how much you are using on MacOS and how much you want to use on Windows. For the Ram, I would not go over 4gb.
seems to be working fine, only issue is when i try to insert guest additions nothing comes up in the windows tab for me to select anything from THIS PC
Very nice step by step tutorial. Question - after following all the steps above, do I need to install an antivirus/firewall too? Asking because I am installing some cracked softwares of adobe that run on windows and i dont want adobe to know this or get virus on my mac via windows while downloading these softwares from 3rd party websites.
Well I don't know anything about using software like that. VMs are usually pretty good at isolating viruses or threats. I would not share any folders between your Mac and VM. You can install a antivirus if you are worried.
Thank you so much dear hugs and light from this side of East Africa Kenya. Just that i'm stuck at launching windows its saying something went wrong 2 days in a row. How can I fix this
is there a way to make this your main screen when you boot up the mac? and also how do i give the program more memory so i can store more stuff so i can download bigger things
There is not a way to boot into a virtual machine. If you install Windows with boot camp, then you could. To increase your storage, unfortunately you are going to have to delete the VM and create another one with more storage. You can not change storage after the machine has been setup.
two years later.. still working like a charm! Thanks alot!! Do you think it’s too late (after full win10 install) to add additional space outside of the 50 GB you originally allocated?
Glad it’s still working for you! If you want to add more storage unfortunately you will have to recreate the VM. You could possibly add some external storage via USB or a cloud service.
@@BenjaminsTech Well luckily I asked at the right time and didn’t do much more than the initial set up. I did it over in the nick of time.. THANKS AGAIN!
thanks a lot! very to the point and informative! i would like to try it out. in the case I want to uninstall everything, is it ok to just uninstall virtualBox? will the virtual hdd disapper aswell an its space re-allocated to the host machine? thanks again in advance!
Before uninstalling virtualbox I would remove the virtual machine to delete the hdd. Just right click on the vm when you are in the manager and click remove. Be sure to select remove all files. OR after removing virtualbox, go and find the virtualbox vm folder in finder and just delete that.
@@BenjaminsTech thanks you so much. If I may ask again, how much space , give or take, does a clean install of windows take up? Do you know if the VM will pick up and work fine with the trackpad/keyboard/webcam/ I/O of a MacBook?
Hmm you can run them but it will be a little slow. I ran visual studio for a while and it took a little longer than usual to build a project. It isn’t unusable, but it is definitely slower than on a Mac.
Hi when i get to the part at 9:29 i get a notification window saying i need to partition more space and that I cant move on... Why? and how do i fix this?
Just a quick note that the virutal box not deliver any more the additions. to change display just got to settings there to 200% which works nice on mac pro 13" screen.
Hi Benjamin, thanks for this fantastic video! I am unfortunately having an issue that I hope you can help me with. I have downloaded VB 6.0 on my macbook air and the windows 10 April ISO file. I followed all of your directions and got up to the step where you press start and have to point VB to the ISO file. After finding the file and clicking start, all I get is a blank screen with a "_" blinking in the top left corner. I've been waiting a while but the windows logo has not shown. Do you know what's wrong?
Basically the blinking underscore means the virtual machine can not boot for some reason. It could be a wide variety of reasons. Something may be wrong with the iso file, a folder could have been moved, there is not enough ram or cpu etc. It is difficult to know. I would recommend going to the virtual box forums for help. Somebody may could help if you posted your logs there. Maybe delete the install and start over? I am not sure.
@@BenjaminsTech I appreciate the reply. I ended up using different ISO file generated by my friend who had windows and it worked. Ran into a different issue further down the line. In the end I used boot camp which works flawlessly although you have to restart to boot into windows and then restart again to boot into osx which is kinda annoying but worth it for me. Thanks again!
Is it possible to use an external hard drive for allocating storage for the virtual machine instead of it using space on the host machine? example: My host machine is only 120GB but i have an external hard drive that has 1TB so would prefer to use that if possible
Yes you could. Be sure it is an SSD though or it will be really slow. Just simply save the VM file to the hard drive instead of the default place virtualbox puts it.
can you please explain the CPU assignment part? I have a new macbook pro 16 inch core I7 six cores, and I don´t know how many CPU´s assign so the VM can run properly. thanks
@@BenjaminsTech Hello again. I tried windows 10 with 8 GB of ram, 1,2,4 and 6 cores and the VM is slow as .... flickering, not responding, etc. can you please give me any sugestions?? I have a MB pro 16 inch core i7 and 16 GB of ram. please help!
Hi Benjamin, thanks for the great tutorial! Everything worked out fine. The only trouble is: Windows is running suuuper slowly on my (old) Macbook. I'll give you some details, hoping you can give me some advice on how to make the whole thing run a bit faster. Macbook: processor: 2,4 GHz, storage: 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3. Windows/ Virtual Box settings: Win10 32-bit version, base memory: 1321MB, 1CPU, execution cap: 100%, video memory: 128MB.

two years later.. still working like a charm!
Thank you so much for this video! i needed it and it was super easy. Is there any possible way to connect a USB device to the Windows?
Try using the devices menu or manually do it in the VM settings. I can never get them to work for me though.
very clear explanation , Thanks
thanks a lot! very to the point and informative! i would like to try it out. in the case I want to uninstall everything, is it ok to just uninstall virtualBox? will the virtual hdd disapper aswell an its space re-allocated to the host machine? thanks again in advance!
Do you know if the VM will pick up and work fine with the trackpad/keyboard/webcam/
I/O of a MacBook?
@@salmiakki5638 I would plan for about 16-20gb. I am not sure what you mean by it will pick up?
@@BenjaminsTech sorry about my bad explaining. I meant will the webcam/USB ports etc. Of a MacBook be usable inside the VM?
Yes they should be however I have never been able to get mine to work.
Could you run heavier programs like adobe suite? Meaning it will run smoothly like the mac on which windows is installed on? Thanks
Hmm you can run them but it will be a little slow. I ran visual studio for a while and it took a little longer than usual to build a project. It isn’t unusable, but it is definitely slower than on a Mac.
@@BenjaminsTech I need that from time to time, so that works. Thank you Benjamin!
A very big thank you! Such a helpful video! You saved us a big amount of time.
Hi when i get to the part at 9:29 i get a notification window saying i need to partition more space and that I cant move on... Why? and how do i fix this?
How much space did you allocate? Windows needs a certain amount just to install Windows.
@@BenjaminsTech I don't know I just did what your tutorial said. Can I go back and fix this?
You would need to delete the VM and create a new one with more storage.
THANK YOU WHAT A DETAILED AND GREAT VIDEO
You basically made my day bro thanks alot
Benjamin, awesome video. Thx!
Hi great video i have one question though. Does the virtual machine after deleting still have permanent effects on your device?
It shouldn’t. Just make sure when you remove the virtual machine you click “remove all files”
Just a quick note that the virutal box not deliver any more the additions. to change display just got to settings there to 200% which works nice on mac pro 13" screen.
Yep!
Thank you very much .. really Genuine and helpful video .. appreciate your work.. got me online in this Corona work from home pandemic :)
dude...i love you for this..thank god!!
I have the same issue!
I have a new macbook pro 16 inch core I7 six cores, and I don´t know how many CPU´s assign so the VM can run properly. thanks
Usually 1 or 2 on the CPU slider will be fine. Just want to make sure to keep the slider in the green. The more cores though, the better.
@@BenjaminsTech Hello again. I tried windows 10 with 8 GB of ram, 1,2,4 and 6 cores and the VM is slow as .... flickering, not responding, etc. can you please give me any sugestions?? I have a MB pro 16 inch core i7 and 16 GB of ram. please help!
how do i install MS Access ? please help I need it for school ! Thanks
Windows 10 is probably going to be slower on an older Mac. It could be a wide variety of reasons. I did make a video showing some ways to improve vm performance. Maybe it will help: ruclips.net/video/2z7icd0vm0M/видео.html
Legendary video! Greatly appreciate it
@benjamin is this tutorial still relevant today? using catalina and win10 on virtual box?
Yes it is! I do have an updated 2020 video on the channel.
Perfect guide really hats off
fantastic tutorial ! I'm not sure why but it's extremely slow in my case...it took me about 40 minutes just to reach the home page. Could you please help me figure out why?
I made a video on how to improve VM performance. Maybe that will help?
Thanks so much man, i really appreciate it.. the problem i have now is, its very very slow and freezing my computer, i allocated 3gig of ram for it, yet its super slow
Maybe need to add more CPU? I did make a video on some ways to improve performance. Maybe it will help: ruclips.net/video/2z7icd0vm0M/видео.html
Thanks, Benjamin! You da best!
Very good tutorial thank you !
Thanks a lot man. This works perfectly
Thanks for the video. When I go to download the windows disc image its asks to choose between 64 bit or 32 bit download. Does it matter which I choose??? Thanks
I’d probably go with the 64 bit version.
