    I've been running a board powered off a USB power bank for a couple of years now and it has been an absolute revelation in terms of not having to run power to the front of the stage and a reduction in noise. I just actually ordered one of those HB Spaceship powered boards recently to try out so this is a well timed video, haha.

      Same here. I just Velcro my power bank underneath the board when I want to play. Other times I use the power bank as normal to recharge devices. I did have to buy and mod the USB TO PIN connector.

      A quality USB power bank has a lot to recommend it.

    A bit of trivia that I hope I remember correctly: according to Josh H. Scott (it might have been a podcast interview with Pete Cornish? Details are fuzzy because I listened to it while driving home through the aftermath of one of the worst storms in Germany), David Gilmour is the mind behind the pedalboard as we know it today and Pete Cornish was the person tasked with making it happen. According to Pete, David was the only person who had realized that if you treat the FX chain as a cohesive, properly planned, fault tested and executed engineering project, you will be able to do so much more and sound so much better than the guitarists who carry their two or three pedals on stage in a shopping bag. At the time, tone-suck, electrical shocks and hum and noise and radio interference was just accepted by guitarists, techs and effect makers as something inevitable, apparently

    Totally agree - I own two XPAND 1 boards - and I use a Mission Engineering USB/bettery power supply…. Liberating not to have to lug unnecessary gear to specific sessions/gigs…

    Please pay attention to this suggestion: use thick patch cables and you'll hear the sound diff. Best: Mogami Platinum, affordable: Fender Custom Shop yellow ones similar to instrument cable

    The Temple Audio system is worth looking at. I've built a couple of boards with it, and they are rock solid, and the modular side panels are great.

    Once again, you've created a magnificent instrument! You made the right choice with the salted maple pick guard. Beautiful wood and craftsmanship.

    Beautiful playing as always, interesting thoughts, it's a shame that most pedalboards don't really have good routing solutions for patch cables and power leads the Harley Benton one is well thought out!! If there were retractable power connectors like USB leads that might be an improvement

    The HB Space Ship with built in power supply has been a revelation for me since you first linked to it a while ago (particularly since it powers the Stomp). Love it. Can't believe there aren't more of these sorts of boards.

  • @DeGroove
    @DeGroove 21 день назад

    I have two of those HB boards (40 and 60XL), but the non battery versions. Both power my HX effects. But you do need an optional line 6 charging cable, with a slight bigger plug than provided with the board. Probably not a professional power supply but I’ve had zero problems with it. Great stuff, not expensive at all.

    Love the Partridge reference, glad to hear your a fan. Yes it’s an extender….if King Arthur would have had an extendable pedal board it would have been a different story.

    Best solution that can be use with almost any pedalboard , it is the HB PowerPlant PowerBank+ mk2, you have 8 output that are 9v and 1 that can be adjust to 9, 12 15 or 18 volts, It has more juice that the one that comes integrated to the pedalboard, I have mine under Rockboard 3.1, best thing ever to play it can not be any faster.

    Disaster area micro clock is pretty clutch to have on a board as well if you have a lot of midi pedals

    I just bought the Daddario expansion board. I did have to modify it by putting longer legs to accommodate my power supply. But other than that it worked out great for my smaller board with the Stomp.

    Very blessed that a buddy happened to build me a custom pedal board just a week or so ago. It's all wooden and is perfect. I mean truly. I've looked and used so many boards and I am not sure why they aren't designed similar to this one. Simple, angled, enough room for either top mounted or side mounted jack wire routing. High enough in the back and front to mount the supply safely underneath. You really have become one of my favorite players to listen to. Inspirational as always!

    you wouldn’t believe the difference good quality patch cables make. I was using the ones I see most using on gear vids the “normal” type, and after I bought and fitted the Ernie Ball flat red patch cables I had to change all the settings on my pedals…I could hear so much more…more frequencies getting through

  • @trioguitar
    @trioguitar 23 дня назад

    I saw on you list of power sources, you had Mission Engineering. High quality gear, minimal noise, fully charged it can run for 5 hours or so (although probably can't charge something like the HX at a guess).
    At least with Mamma Mia, there are plenty of song parts that require minimal guitar. 😀

    We need more non-velcro solutions. I do appreciate what Aclam, Holeyboard, and Boss have done in that regard.

      I use nano tape, also called alien tape. It’s a gel material like those slap hands out of a mechanical coin op vending machine, but it’s in tape form. I usually use hook & loop, but I’ve used that nano tape stuff for a few boards.

    I gigged the boss board for a couple years. Downside is lack of airflow. Power supply gets hot and would heat up my hx effects to the point where it would shut down if it was like 85 degrees outside at the gig. Small fan solves it but something to consider depending what you are strapping on to it. Great board though, I love the design otherwise.

    The logical solution is a large flat power supply in which you rest your pedals on top of -a combined board and power supply.
