FAQ: Q: How do I articulate these sounds? A: I don’t know enough about articulatory phonetics beyond the common pulmonic consonants to describe what is happening with my uvula, velum, and larynx when I’m uttering these sounds. The unvoiced gurgle is something like a non-pulmonic uvular trill with closed glottis (at least in the egressive version), the glug similar to a tap. The gulp is probably some kind of ingressive velar click. And for the grumble, I articulate something similar to the velar nasal, only that I close my nasal cavity as well. --- Q: How long did I have to practice to get the sounds right? A: I’ve actually had the idea for this phonology for many years. So, I had a lot of practice. For the video, I first recorded the individual words with random sequences of sounds (adhering to the phonology of course) and then transcribed it. If I had come up with the words first and then tried to read them, it would not have been nearly so fluent. The greatest challenge were the three words whose stem meant ‘bee’, as they had to have the same radicals. For them, I first recorded one of them, transcribed it, removed the diacritics and recorded two more with different (random) sound variants. --- Q: Can I provide a document with more details on the grammar and/or a dictionary? A: Unfortunately, there isn’t really any material that I don’t already show in the video. All I sent Agma Schwa was a PDF with the six wordstems shown in the part “Performance” without diacritics and with their respective meaning shown in the part “Translation”. Everything in terms of grammar that goes more into detail than what I show in the video would be way too complicated to document anyways, because most of it is completely dependent on the wordstem. Gurgle is not learnable for a human being. But in the two other videos on my channel mentioned at 11:54, I go into more detail of certain grammatical aspects that work very similarly in Gurgle: ruclips.net/video/iBiVrBAg3T8/видео.htmlsi=NZhjHZpuLVuMA_cL ruclips.net/video/VpPlsfIl1tw/видео.htmlsi=WgaG_z3Hq4u1rSzK As for a dictionary, I would generate the wordstems randomly anyways, so there would not really be a point. @@linguleum yeah no problem! Teach me please... /hj
Dude, this was an amazing conlang. Even if you didn't win, agma still said all of the other submissions were absolutely horrifying, too :)
If it means anything, I was rooting for you!
Thank you, I appreciate it! :)
I love how you can hear their eyes almost bulging out their skull as they exclaim "we have **21**" slots for grammatical categories.
I couldn’t quite believe it myself yet.
Well congratulations, you made a functional Stellaris Alien-esque language.
peak alien langauge hours and somehow still similar to the gazopazorp-style gibberish they have in cartoons
Thank you! ^^
I love how universally the "z" and the "orp" are associated with cartoon-aliens.
I need more of gurgle. After seeing/hearing the other entries I still preder this. I hope there will be a longer video with spoken gurgle
I will consider it! ^^
Dude this is awesome. I've been able to make these same sounds for years now, and being able to perfectly pronounce the phonology along with you was nuts. We out here speaking minecraft shulker.
Thanks a lot! I knew I wasn’t the only one. xD
this is really cool!! it feels very alien, unlike most alien languages ive seen, and it makes a lot of sense with the lore you've described with it :D
im definitely gonna watch your other videos that you mentioned in this one
Thank you so much! I appreciate it. ^^
100 points for demonstration right there
Thank you so much! ^^
21:30 the part you've all been waiting for.
This could make for a good asmr video.
This is a really cool conlang, I love how it picks up ideas that are new and fresh and not just the old conlang spings, while at the same time still making sense and being cursed.
Thank you so much, that’s exactly what I tried to do. I’m glad you appreciate it. ^^
So, all this time my sleep paralysis demon was just reading out the Bee Movie script to me??? Who knew!
xD
Did you steal their vocal tract to make those noises that fluently?? caught me off guard 😅
Lol, thank you! ^^
I’ve actually had the idea for this phonology for many years.
I will learn how to pronounce this phonology and scare small children
I am not accountable for any psychological damage inflicted upon children by the use of my conlang.
The script for this language is like reading sheet music but with your mouth! This is so cool
Thank you! ^^
This is definitely sounds like the language spoken by a race of Eldritch Lovecraftian creatures!
Good job! Love it
Thank you so much! I love the association with Lovecraft. ^^
Truly alien (and hopelessly cursed). This is wonderful.
Thank you so much! ^^
I hope you win the contest, this is insane, thanks
Thanks a lot! ^^
Fun fact: When you're watching this with headphones on, it feels like Cursed Conlang ASMR.
@@thejosephlogoeditor2k7tjytphal xD
The end where you read some sentences in the language sounds like Yoda choking on a rock... and i love it.
Lol, thank you! xD
Oh God. I had no idea a language could sound so aweful! Great job XD !
Thank you! xD
no way I've finally found someone else who knows how to make the sounds that I have figured out. this is amazing. Amazing conlang btw
Awesome! I was wondering if someone else would stumble across them. xD
Thank you! ^^
gotta be one of the nastiest sounding languages ever, if this doesnt win whatever competition ur doing id be shocked
Thank you so much! (=
You gotta do some sort of tutorial for pronouncing these gurgles. It sounds so interesting!
Thank you! ^^ I considered explaining it in the video, but apart from the fact that it would have made the video even longer, I wouldn’t really know how to describe them. The voiceless gurgles are some kind of non-pulmonic uvular trill. The gulps are probably some click. But I know way too little about non-pulmonic consonants. xD
This is art
Thank you! ^^
22:39 that part at the beginning sounds so cool 😂 I love this conlang
Thank you so much! ^^
I guess the way we would pronounce it could be called the human dialect of the language
“Mate, you got a bad terrestial accent.” xD
I'm revisiting this because of CCC3 and I gotta say out of all the videos I've seen so far, your delivery of the translation is the most convincing out of all of them, I'm genuinely speechless at how natural and meaningful this sounds
@@caffeinatedcomposer3703 Thank you, I appreciate it! (=
If you’re interested as to how I pulled this off, check out the pinned comment.
ACCORDING TO ALL OUR CONCEPTIONS OF FLIGHT
Edit: My suggestion for making it even more cursed is making the writing system wackier! The letters still look like something earthly, for example, and there’s nothing saying creatures who seem to have radial symmetry would write in straight lines as opposed to spirals or hexagons or spiderwebs!
Interesting! I didn’t go into how the characters would actually look like (mainly because there are so impossibly many of them), I just told the person who drew the illustrations to make some intentional-looking scratches on the stones. xD But I could definitely have played more with it. ^^
Since reading is echolocation i like to imagine they talk and read at the same time just to show their brains are even more wacky.
I've been able to follow a lot of conlangs as an outsider but after a certain point this was just.... beyond me. Well done.
Thank you! ^^
Ah, you mean the sounds they utter for communication are also the sounds they use for echolocation? That’s such a cool idea!
I would like to thank the RUclips algorithm for bringing me this masterpiece of a language
@@c0der23 Thanks a lot, I appreciate it! :D
imagine if you heard this person speaking this outside at 3am no where to be seen.

@@linguleum my bad, let me edit my comment.
@@solisimperium1203 Thank you, I appreciate it! ^^
I don't think I understood a single thing in this video and I find that absolutely fascinating!
I think it should be considered as being praise that I was intrigued greatly despite this barrier.
Thanks for your work!
Thank you so much! It’s so interesting that even people who don’t belong to the rather narrow target audience get recommended this video and even enjoy it. I appreciate it! ^^
HOW IN THE WORLD DO YOU MAKE THOSE OTHERWORLDLY SOUNDS
I don’t know enough about articulatory phonetics beyond the common pulmonic consonants to describe what is happening with my uvula, velum, and larynx when I’m uttering these sounds. Does this help? (:
It sounds horrific, and I love it.
Thank you! 😅
i am amazed by every single aspect of this video and conlang. the phonology and however the hell you manage to pronounce this. the design of the species. the absolutely cursed grammar. i genuinely have no idea how anyone can think of this, let alone create something like this and convey it in such a way that it is at least somewhat understandable. great work, and keep it up!
Wow, thank you so much, I’m very grateful for your words! 💜
I now know how to pronounce
“ɞ̜ʁ̹́ɾտ̜̄ɞɾʁ̜ɞ̄ʁ́ɞ̜̄ʁ̜ɞɾɞ̜ɾտ́ɞ́ɞ̜̄ʁ̜̄ɾտ̜̄ɞ̄ʁ́ɞ̜̄ɾʁ̜́ɾɞ̜̄ɾʁ̜́ɾɞ̜̄ɾ”
(also known as Gurgle)
- thanks to this video!
You are welcome! ^^
Oh my god this is amazing. The sounds alone, woahhhh
Thank you so much, I appreciate it! ^^
These aliens look a lot like the Eridians from Project Hail Mary. (Radially symmetric body, slits on the top, three fingers, echolocation, food contains a lot of hard minerals). Did you ever read it by any chance? It's a very good book, I recommend. Not to spoil too much, but they have a very interesting language as well.
I didn’t know them. But yeah, the images on Google do look similar. It wasn’t exactly my priority to come up with a completely original design for the alien species. Thank you for the recommendation! ^^
That’s what I thought they were
@@bonelessbooks9263 it was like half the reason I clicked on the video too lmao
A more-literal-than-usual example of convergent evolution!

Jesus Christ, you’re right. xD
Truly remarkable. I have never seen or heard anything comparable, or as culturally impactful as this. The way the species must be for this to work well, exquisite. Jamendous.

I didn’t strictly adhere to the counterpoint rules there, though. It’s adapted from an earlier orchestral piece I composed back when I didn’t know counterpoint yet. 😅

@@themelancholyofgay3543 Dammit, I failed the task.
