  • When the small town of Exmouth in Western Australia plunged into darkness - as the total solar eclipse tracked along the country - ABC radio presenter Sinead Mangan didn't expect it to be such an emotional experience.
Between the gathering of a colourful group of people and an astro phenomenon, the scene made for a unique experience.

If you've ever experienced a total solar eclipse, you understand the emotional reaction in this video. It's unlike anything the human mind can understand or process. Totality is the most beautiful, blissful, surreal, but also unnerving and spooky thing I've ever witnessed. I was in Missouri for the 2017 eclipse and once totality ended, I had no words to describe what I was feeling. I pray everyone, if possible, makes it a point to see the April 2024 eclipse! Otherwise, it'll be a long wait until 2044 and 2045.

This video is extremely well done! Very artistic! I've been to 5 total eclipses but could not go to this eclipse in Exmouth. This makes me bummed that I missed this one! Thanks for sharing it.

The corona is like something out of a sci-fi movie. And that was exactly what I was saying in August 2017, watching from the US Southeast. It's like Spielberg and Lucas got Industrial Light and Magic to make a special-effects version of the sky. The unexpected part was the corona itself. I know exactly what I'm going to see from a total solar eclipse, I know exactly how one works, but once revealed, the corona itself is surreal...ghost-like, as if it was from a Poltergeist movie. You're never truly emotionally/spiritually prepared to see one until you've done your first eclipse.

Well said! I was in Missouri for the 2017 total solar eclipse and had a similar experience. I'm an astronomy, weather, and science buff so I had read about totality, what to expect leading up to it, and seen plenty of eclipse videos. But once totality arrived and swept over me, I was ecstatic! Literally the weirdest, spookiest, most blissful, and most beautiful thing I've experienced.

Did a camping road trip to Exmouth with my wife, daughter and 3 dogs to watch the eclipse, it was way cooler to watch than we expected

What did the temperature get down to, when it got completely dark, due to the eclipse?

Maybe should have had an Aussie commentate, rather than an Irish Woman?
