Please note that the aft portion of each lamp assembly has a tab that fits under a mounting tab in the car. You release the assembly (after removing the 10mm bolts) by pulling it forward a bit and it will slide and release. Be sure to put it back under the same tab before reinstalling the 10mm bolts. They will tighten but the lamp will be aimed way too low and the assembly will not really be secure. I only figured this out after doing this once and having to re-do it again. Dave may have mentioned this in the video but it’s easy to overlook because the assembly will go back in without catching that back tab and seem tight. But it won’t be fully secured and won’t aim correctly.
Just got my Macan back from a water pump replacement…. And the headlights are way low!!! I’m guessing the tech Mis-installed above the tab! Thanks for pointing this out!
@@davewithadayjob I have the exact same colour macan but with the 21" turbo wheels instead. Changed my bulbs last week. Thanks to your upload. I learned a lot so far. I cannot wait for more macan content.
This video is very detailed, appreciate the time it took, I have a 2019 and mine looks at lot different when I start to take it apart. I have seen pics in the forum that look completely different that this. What year is your car
Mine was a 2015 Macan S. Yours is the mid generation update so there may be differences there, but it also could be different if working on a base model (non-S) or Macan Turbo.
They are probably not street legal in all states due to some technicality but I honestly wouldn’t expect to get in any trouble using them. They aren’t as bright as all the LED lights you see on every new car. Just a slightly whiter shade than stock.
Happy to help! LED bulbs won’t work if you have the Xenon/HID system. I think some Macans may have been made with standard halogen systems, but I haven’t seen any like that in the US.
Did you encounter any difficulty while turning the bulb to get it out? Or did you just turn it anti clockwise and it just come right out? By the way very helpful video, guided me all the way up until my stuck bulb lol
Didn’t seem to give me much trouble at that point. If anything, the most trouble came from trying to disconnect the cable harness clip from the headlight. Maybe try heating it a bit gently with a blow dryer?

Great question! I actually sold the car, so I don’t know the latest but up until that point, they seemed to have consistent performance. With that said, I did notice that the bulbs seemed to have a slightly different color between them. Not sure if that was due to variation between the bulbs or possibly something caused by my car. Either way, it wasn’t noticeable enough to mess with so I left them as is. It did kind of annoy me a bit for what it’s worth…
Hi Carlinhos. No, the fog lights would use a different bulb, which will be a standard halogen or a LED bulb, depending on trim package of your car. If changing them out, I would look for an LED equivalent either way because they will likely be brighter and last longer.
Are the small front headlights functional? or just decorative? I can't seem to find a way to turn them on. (the ones medial to the light bulb you just changed)
Klaus Kuhn the inner “projector” is just decorative, but if you have PDLS, there will be a small cornering lamp in between the headlight and decorative projector that can also be changed. My car does not have it.
Not on these particular lights. My understanding is that it’s just for looks 😬. There is a cornering light on some, but I don’t think that’s the one you’re talking about.
There is a cable harness that plugs right into the back of the housing. I think the tab you have to press may be on the bottom side. This thread looks to have done decent pictures. www.macanforum.com/threads/led-headlight-retrofit-headlight-assembly-replacement-diy.173468/
The release tab faces down. There are two rectangles under the connector. The small one aft is the one you want. Get a stubby Phillips like Dave did and push it in and up, and it will release the lock.
It’s been a few years since I made the video, so I don’t recall exactly how it needs to be placed, but it sounds like it may not have been seated down properly before bolting them back down. I’d recommend removing again and trying to reseat, then adjust if needed before bolting down.
Yes. The reason it sits up is because you need to slide a tab you can’t really see underneath the corresponding tab in the car. If you seat it correctly, you will not be able to pull up on the aft end of the housing. Do this before you replace the 10mm bolts. It will be secure and you will only be able to tilt the front of the assembly where the 10mm bolts go. Then replace the bolts and torque them down.
Thanks! Unfortunately I no longer have the Macan, so I can’t do a video on the turn signal but you may find DIY in the Macan forums if you haven’t searched there.
I almost took my Porsche to the mechanic after watching how involved and difficult this guy made replacing a lightbulb seam. I decided to pop the hood and look for myself. The replacement bulb took me 5 minutes. You simply remove the round cover on the backside for the light fixture and reach in and twist bulb counter clockwise. pull off connecting wire. simply repeat same procedure in reverse. Simple 5 to 10 minute job, This guy is an absolute clown. No need for tools or removing the entire light fixture
Thanks for the feedback. If you were able to access the round cover that easily, it sounds like your car may be missing the panels that cover them up, blocking access. Sorry my video wasn’t useful to you, but glad it helped the other 49 people who’ve commented so far, and maybe a handful of the other 26k people that have also watched the video.
You still need to remove the plastic panels. I found it difficult to get at the bulb without unbolting the housing like Dave did. As it was, the bulb connector inside is short and difficult to get at. Maybe my hands are too big, but I found removing the housing as in the video was useful. If you can get at the bulb and change it without undoing the 10mm bolts, you’re doing well.
Thank you for making this video, it is very detailed and appreciate you recognizing your mistakes to help us not make them. Thanks again.

You can get d3s led bulbs with built in decoder. Plug and play to your existing hid ballast.

Would these work on a Macan 2018?
Pretty sure it’s the same as long as you have the HID/Xenon light and not the LED headlights.
Does the inner headlight come on or is that just an accessory?
Not on these particular lights. My understanding is that it’s just for looks 😬. There is a cornering light on some, but I don’t think that’s the one you’re talking about.

was it low beam or high beam?
Reza It’s a “bi-xenon” bulb so both low and hi beam come from the same bulb.
Where did you bought the bulb?
I think I found them on EBay, but I’m sure you can get them on the company website or an online auto parts retailer.

Is the product spec you replaced correspond with the car? And do you expect any critical errors if I use the "blue intense" one?
