Science Bulletins: Zircons-Time Capsules from the Early Earth

- Zircons are tiny crystals with a big story to tell. Some of these minerals are the oldest Earth materials ever discovered, and therefore yield clues about what the planet was like after it formed 4.5 billion years ago. In this new Science Bulletins video, travel to a remote island off Greenland's coast and a zircon-making lab in New York State to learn how geologists are using these time capsules to build new hypotheses about the early Earth.
Science Bulletins is a production of the National Center for Science Literacy, Education, and Technology (NCSLET), part of the Department of Education at the American Museum of Natural History. Each Bulletin is produced by AMNHs curatorial and scientific staff and a team of video producers, designers, writers, and educators using state-of-the-art technologies such as high-definition video, data visualization, and 3-D computer graphics to present the latest research.

As the last 2 comments say, this is an extremely interesting and cool field of study. I appreciate this being made and uploaded!
Wow, so cool.
excellent
Cool.
Very nice lecture...
Cool❤️🔥❤️🔥
I found a time capsuled comment section .. hey it's 2020😅 anyone here
no, we left and went to 2021. Btw we are still in the pendamic
@@monicaramirez2934 😗me too , still stuck here
No bud we us sane are on pluto but earth is still going to die in a pandemic Good luck.did you know that the black death is returning its in the south US right now. Get running
ALL HAIL THE ZIRCONS!
So I imagine that these zircon minerals are made in stages throughout their existence. The one they showed the dates for had three dates for three different parts of the zircon, so each of the two younger parts were added to the zircon later? Very interesting. I love it that we can discern so much information from something so small. :-)
You’re 13 years older now
Being smack on the mid Atlantic ridge, I'd never have guessed Greenland had the most venerable geology.
Imagine all the things we have yet to learn and how little we actually know now.
@m00ste Wow, so the Earth must have cooled very quickly then!
Came here from my Physics class :)
the 420th viewer was here
Does this mean the Earth is older?
Older than what?

hello, me. i know science class is boring af, but hey, spring break is near so...yay...?
-past me saying hello to future me
A rock that is covered in soil and zircon and shaped like a diamond and look like it has human teeth embedded in it.

ken ham and ray comfort think this is bs. young earth creationists,,,,, you gotta laugh.
Too many Assumption into observation. A scientific research group called RATE (Radioisotopes and the Age of The Earth ) was formed by the Institute for Creation Research and the Creation Research Society to study this issue from a creationist perspective. They have determined that the most likely times for accelerated decay were the first 2.5 days of the creation week, and during the flood and shortly thereafter.
