You're taking this too literally, the first part of the quote is a shock statement to give everything more of an impact. Of course mirrors are useful, but they can be counterproductive when misused, like when judging your own worth. In the second part, I don't think he's talking about reflection in the physical sense, but about how others see you vs how you see yourself. Your capability to see/judge yourself is inherently biased while others can see/judge you more accurately. Of course there are exceptions for this too. The main purpose of these quotes are to give you food for thought, new perspectives, rules of thumb, delivered in an artfully crafted way.

When a woman loves a man (or man loves a man, or man loves a woman, or attack helicopter loves a giraffe, whatever... ), she doesn't love him for who he really is, but for what she believes him to be. She loves an idealised version of him she created in her own mind that he will, inevitably, fail to live up to. That is what causes the vast majority of relationship issues and breakups. You're taking this too literally, the first part of the quote is a shock statement to give everything more of an impact. Of course mirrors are useful, but they can be counterproductive when misused, like when judging your own worth. In the second part, I don't think he's talking about reflection in the physical sense, but about how others see you vs how you see yourself. Your capability to see/judge yourself is inherently biased while others can see/judge you more accurately. Of course there are exceptions for this too. The main purpose of these quotes are to give you food for thought, new perspectives, rules of thumb, delivered in an artfully crafted way.

I just realized that "back in the day" a lady did not have the freedom to directly say "yes" to a man's advances. Otherwise, she wasn't a lady. She had to pretend to resist. @@lorinwegand6324 Well said. I blame social media. A platform where people can spew hate with no repercussions, lie, reinvent themselves into personas that are all fake. The mainstream media now controls it, and politicians control them. For all our technology and instant access to endless knowledge, this is the most ignorant, easily misled society in history. That old joke "If its on the internet its true" has become an absolute. A divided country is the governments dream, both parties in this country telling their bases, this is your enemy, and only we can protect you. The media has driven every divide possible, color, gender, religion, politics, fueling more and more hate...look at covid/vaccines...they have politicized the topic of life and death itself. Now they are politicizing work...now people who work are "right wing" because no one should have to work and get everything for free. The I-phone and computer is this generations binky...babies crying put something in its mouth, people are thinking...hey, look, facebook, a cat pic, a meme...The truth is the person with the different color skin, different gender, sexual preference, religious belief is not your enemy, they're not much different than you, the enemy is the person telling you that's your enemy.
This country is doomed unless we, the people, realize who is pulling our strings and unite against them. Get back to its the working people, not the millionaires in congress running things. But...this society doen't have the wherewithal to do anything but what they're told to do.

I prepose we all bow at the waist and give a hardy round of applause to Mark Zukerburg and his team for not willing to separate fact from fiction, under the guise of 'it's their opinion', without regard for seeking truth and promoting fake news on definable subjects as voter suppression, adoration rights, gun laws and practices, covid restrictions mandating masks on, masks off, masks on that create confusion except for those who line their pocket with bitcoin ugliness, all intending to chop holes in the constitution with selfish motives and without constructive considerations of what we should stand for.
