Hi! same for me I've got the feeling that a lot of my "problems" are going away since I've started reading Tolstoï. Currently on War and Peace, quite a big one. Which one of his books did hit you the most ?
@@OranjeSchildpad yay! Another fan! I’m actually learning Russian by myself at the moment bc I want to be able to read or listen in the native language! My absolute favorite is the Death of Ivan Iliyich. I read it in college and found it to be outstandingly profound and, though pessimistic, an accurate portrayal of human nature when one person is suffering and what your “value” really is here. I read it again after being diagnosed with cancer a year later and it hit me in a whole new way. I have never related to a fictional character more than Ivan. When he described the pain and loneliness of dying and the neglect and lack of sympathy from even family, I too had a horrid, lonely experience with it, it moved me because I felt understood (22 with cancer is hard to feel understood bc everyone around you with it has 30-40 years that you didn’t get!) I wanted that sympathy he begged for. To be cared for. But it never came and I realized that if I serve no tangible purpose people don’t care and I’m a burden (I know it’s pessimistic! But it helped me to not succumb to the depression and love life the way I feel I should to be happy for me). Read it afterwards after some other events in my life and helped erase any fear of death that lingered with me and to lower my expectations of people to not get hurt. My dad is a huge fan, too, so we discuss it at length! It’s so beautiful to me and real. I joke that people always want to see representation of themselves in things, but it’s superficial. " Leo Tolstoy’s Resurrection. For his whole life, Leo Tolstoy was concerned, immensely concerned with Jesus; hence the title, Resurrection. And Leo Tolstoy has really created a tremendous work of art. It has been a bible to me. I can still see myself when I was young continuously carrying Tolstoy’s Resurrection with me. Even my father became worried. “It is okay to read a book,” he said to me one day, “but why do you go on carrying this book the whole day? You have read it.”I said, “Yes, I have read it, not only once but many times. But I am going to carry it with me.”My whole village knew about it, that I was continuously carrying a certain book called Resurrection. They all thought I was mad - and a madman can do anything. But why was I carrying Resurrection the whole day? - and not only during the day, but during the night too. The book was with me by my bed. I loved it… the way Leo Tolstoy reflects the whole message of Jesus. He succeeds far more than any of the apostles except Thomas - and about that I am going to talk just after Resurrection. The four gospels particularly included in the Bible miss the whole spirit of Jesus. Resurrection is far better. Tolstoy really loved Jesus and love is magic, particularly because when you love someone time disappears. Tolstoy loved Jesus so much that they become contemporaries. The gap is big, two thousand years, but it disappears between Tolstoy and Jesus. It rarely happens, very very rarely, that’s why I used to carry that book in my hand. I no longer carry that book in my hand, but in my heart it is still there. Another book by Leo Tolstoy. One of the greatest in all the languages of the world, War and Peace. Not only the greatest but also the most voluminous… thousands of pages. I don’t know that anybody reads such books except myself. They are so big, so vast, they make you afraid. But Tolstoy’s book has to be vast, it is not his fault. War and Peace is the whole history of human consciousness - the whole history; it cannot be written on a few pages. Yes, it is difficult to read thousands of pages, but if one can, one will be transported to another world. One will know the taste of something classic. Yes, it is a classic. Leo Tolstoy's ANNA KARENINA, a small but immensely beautiful novel. You must wonder why I should include a novel in my list. Just because I am crazy! I like all kinds of things. ANNA KARENINA is one of my most loved books. How many times I have read it I can't remember. I mean the number of times - I remember the book perfectly well, I can relate the whole book.If I was drowning in the ocean and had to choose just one novel out of all the millions of novels in the world, I would choose ANNA KARENINA. It would be beautiful to be with that beautiful book. It has to be read and read again; only then you can feel it, smell it, and taste the flavor. It is no ordinary book.Leo Tolstoy failed as a saint, just as Mahatma Gandhi failed as a saint, but Leo Tolstoy was a great novelist. Mahatma Gandhi succeeded as - and will remain forever - a pinnacle of sincerity. I don't know of any other man in this century who was so sincere. When he wrote to people 'sincerely yours' he was really sincere. When you write 'sincerely yours', you know, and everybody else knows, and the person to whom you are writing also knows, that it is all bullshit. It is very difficult, almost impossible, to really be 'sincerely yours'. That's what makes a person religious - sincerity.Leo Tolstoy wanted to be religious but could not be. He tried hard. I feel great sympathy with his effort, but he was not a religious person. He has to wait at least a few more lives. In a way it is good that he was not a religious man... otherwise we would have missed RESURRECTION, WAR AND PEACE, ANNA KARENINA, and dozens more beautiful, immensely beautiful books."
My favorite is people are always trying to change others but seldom do they ever look at themselves. Start looking at yourself change yourself to fit in don't try to change others to fit in this is a truly incredibly genius rule for every single level of interaction you have good or bad think about it even road rage this rule applies to every single human interaction that you will have or I will have in my lifetime so stop and think about yourself and how you are responding or reacting to others reactions or how they are treating you good or bad forget about them focus on you

There are many intelligent women out there. Perhaps you are simply a commitment-phobe and using your perceived scarcity-of-intelligent-women as an excuse.

In Gandhi's autobiography " My Experiments with Truth" he writes while he was in South Africa once he had to travel from Durban to Johannesburg in a train. That night during his travel he carried two books. One of Leo Tolstoy & other of John Ruskin. He read those two books the whole night while travelling in train. Those two books deeply influenced his thoughts so much that , the very night those two authors transformed him from Mohandaas Gandhi to Mahatma Gandhi. That's why Gandhiji says powerful thoughts can transform one's individual life and the entire world as well from nothing to everything.

Here is one of my own thoughts , The word happiness is over used as it is an excellent experience that comes and goes , contentment is far better to strive for .
We have to accept society for what it is. Good vs good will not sell at the box office. Society makes it difficult for women to realize that their minds are more important than their physiques. Instant liberation applies to the physique rather than the mind. Liberation of the mind is gradual.

In a way it is good that he was not a religious man... otherwise we would have missed RESURRECTION, WAR AND PEACE, ANNA KARENINA, and dozens more beautiful, immensely beautiful books."
a very accurate remark, besides, the most sinful person passes through the eye of a needle much more easily
My favorite is people are always trying to change others but seldom do they ever look at themselves. Start looking at yourself change yourself to fit in don't try to change others to fit in this is a truly incredibly genius rule for every single level of interaction you have good or bad think about it even road rage this rule applies to every single human interaction that you will have or I will have in my lifetime so stop and think about yourself and how you are responding or reacting to others reactions or how they are treating you good or bad forget about them focus on you
It is no bad thing to celebrate a simple life - J.R.R Tolkien
Strong minds are not simple.
Thank you for sharing bro
Love the music.
"It is amazing how complete is the delusion that beauty is goodness."
This man was calling out modern lookism before it even exploded into the absurd level it is today.
Capitalism helped made it extreme
So very true - when we young and dum we obsessed with beauty. Until we learn that beauty is many times very shallow.
@dizzy Agree- well put !
2:04 "If you look for perfection, you will never be content"
It is not "modern lookism" you muppet..
It is in our dna for eons.. even chimps, our cousins from whome we split over 2 million years ago, prefer to hang out with prettier chimps.
Strong as a young man, but as I age, I am cashing in some excess strength and replacing it with wisdom. And nothing is so enjoyable for this man as the company of intelligent women.
Absolutely, buddy
So glad I watched this! Now I know this man was a fool and a sucker with a sophisticated mind to be captivating.
Your YT “handle” says it all about you.
@@cutzymccall7675 how's that method of assumption, judgment, and trolling working out in your life?
Excellent! ♥️🕊🙏🏼
“Nothing is so necessary for a young man as the company of intelligent women” hopefully my family & friends are watching and they will know why am I still single or what I am looking for in a lady
That’s what all the men who’ve loved me have believed, I feel certain of it, lol. Just sayin’…
There are many intelligent women out there. Perhaps you are simply a commitment-phobe and using your perceived scarcity-of-intelligent-women as an excuse.
One of my favorite writers 😊👍♥️
Yes, Strong people are always simple.
Patience is to keep going when the going is hard
The Sun once shined, I know because I saw it, saw it as the earth turned beneath my feet, leaving me reflecting, alone like the moon. Now, understanding Mass and Gravity, I look back into the telescope of my heart only to be blinded. I see without sight the brightest moment my heart could view. I tell myself, sorry.
Lovely.
This man really was an intelligent person. We need more like him
In Gandhi's autobiography " My Experiments with Truth" he writes while he was in South Africa once he had to travel from Durban to Johannesburg in a train.
Strength in simplicity!✌

We have to accept society for what it is. Good vs good will not sell at the box office. Society makes it difficult for women to realize that their minds are more important than their physiques. Instant liberation applies to the physique rather than the mind. Liberation of the mind is gradual.
Everyone thinks of changing the world but no one thinks of changing themselves....

This is so true Jesus was/is the king of the world yet he came being born into the world in a Manger surrounded by animals. At one point in time of his life he came riding on a donkey and was still being praised Hossana the word of God says God gives grace and up lifts the humble which in due time will make them so strong. The word of God talks so much of how he lifts up those who are humble basically simple.
It is good people who are simple
