FANTASTIC ANALYSIS, Good move by the Govt to change the situation in a modest step and even that is being resisted by vested interests. Now one can realize why the farmers do not want any expert panel or anything else. They just want to surrender to enable them to ruin Punjab ultimately. When that happens they will join the Khalistanis and say India damaged them. Continuation of this will result in Punjab becoming an arid desert with no cultivation possible. India cannot continue allowing this to continue if they care for the nation and Punjab it self. Vested interests only care for short term profits and destroy the nation in the long run,

Behind the protests are arthiyas, buying agents in APMC mandis, who stand to lose Rs 1500 crore a year in commissions, plus rich farmers of Punjab, who are part of the 6% of India’s farmers who benefit from the MSP regime, according to the 70th round of the NSS. One important point has been missed.
The farmers selling their agricultural products at an abnormally higher price
to the Govt. Agents, mostly The Food Corporation of India, are in line with the corrupt officials who help them delivering substandard
    stock at the standard price.
Again, this stock is disposed of through the Govt. Public Distribution System, where there is hardly any scope for public complaint.
The authorities are unable to correct this loophole.
This is well-known to the farmers.
The farmers are therefore very much against the option to go to the open market, which will make the secret out.
While continuing the msp, the Govt. must deal with their Quality Control officers with a heavy hand; and this will automatically reduce the interest of the farmers in the msp, to a significant extent.

@@sbains6096 If the purchase is indeed above cost then why so many farmers all over India and less in Punjab are committing suicide? Thing is just 6% of the produce is purchased at MSP and of this more than 75% is done in Punjab only. This is inspite of the APMCs existing in most of the states except for Bihar, Kerala. In Bihar, it is a known fact that the traders (who are these traders - capitalist farmers?) from outside Bihar (is it Punjab and Haryana) control the prices and probably sell them at MSP in APMC mandis there.
What I wanted to say is that most of the farmers sell at prices lower than MSP even in APMC mandis to these capitalist farmers or their agents and the latter sell it at MSP - case of Punjab.
I think APMC mandis should be only 1 amongst the many purchasers of the food produce and farmers should have the info about all the buyers (some online system).
I am asserting this only from the knowledge gained by reading articles and understanding Ashok Gulati, so if you are a farmer you might know better.

Exactly.....in addition to Jamindara (heafty landlords), this SJF, Khalistani madness and ready sponsorers of anarchy pak&china, this artificial protest drama becomes uselessly threatening for the security of India. This landlords protest is nothing to do with Farmers' and their welfare - this is primarily aimed at safeguarding their traditional interests in the ecosystem.
But, unfortunately, they are forgetting they are up against Modi and that's the answer.

Congress and its chelas have to keep their mouths shut as Indira Gandhi did this decades ago. This should be called the Indira Act. It gives much pleasure to be nasty to traitors, correct?

I agree on a lot of things and he is very articulate 2 b able 2 xplain the structural inefficiencies of the existing Apmc and pds system through the intricacies but i also disagree on a lot of things.
The concerns of the farmers (regardless of rich or poor) are genuine and the apprehensions needs to b soughted out, calling their protest as vested interests comes from the fact that it pinches u that how can anyone protest against this govt just coz u r pro govt.
Had the govt consulted with the farmers and built consensus then they wouldn't have to deal with this sort of backlash.
There are loopholes in these new laws also which only increases the chances of exploiting the already burdened and exploitated farmer.
No 1 is against any reforms, infact the agri sector is craving for reforms but it cant be brought in just 4 d sake of bringing a change b4 proper consultation.
We need an agricultural policy which is comprehensive of every agricultural aspect which includes marketing, credit, technology, international and domestic trade, investment and other incentives
