Introduction: Good evening. This is Tamami Nishida. Over four days this week, SUNTORY Sound Market is presenting live performances by "big artists" who have made rock history. As our "big live artist" for today and tomorrow, we'll present you a performance by Roger Waters, the de facto leader of Pink Floyd. Please fully enjoy the stage that was just held in New York in March of this year.
Narration-1: The news of Pink Floyd's disbandment, which was reported two years ago, caused a deep sigh among progressive rock fans around the world, because, along with Genesis and King Crimson, Pink Floyd was a special band that elevated rock music to the level of art. In fact, in the early 1970s (in Japan), Tadanori Yokoo, Kubrick's "2001,'' and Pink Floyd, were synonymous with the times. In modern terms, the band was a bit of part of a cultural movement. In particular, Pink Floyd is a band that left many presents for us Japanese rock fans. In August 1971, the band gave us our first outdoor concert experience in Hakone. The following year, in 1972, they put on a light show that is a must at rock concerts. The live show you'll hear tonight is packed with 20 years of Pink Floyd's history. Of course, there's no Syd Barrett in sight, nor are Nick Mason, David Gilmour or Rick Wright on stage. However, supporting Roger Waters are former King Crimson member Mel Collins, former Amen Corner Band member Andy Fairweather Low, and New York City's premier rhythm maker Andy Newmark. They are the musicians who may cause a deep sighーin another senseーamong us. This concert was recorded on March 28, 1985, at the Radio City Hall in New York. Let me introduce the songs in the first half. The show opens with "Welcome To The Machine" from the 1975 Wish You Were Here album, followed by "Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun" from the 1968 album A Saucerful Of Secrets, and "Money" from the 1972 Dark Side Of The Moon album, which is a phenomenal work that continues to pop up on the album charts.
Narration-2: Tonight's SUNTORY Sound Market is introducing Roger Waters' stage performance in New York this spring. David Gilmour and Rick Wright released solo albums during the Pink Floyd era, but it is as if Roger waited until Pink Floyd disbanded to work on his first solo album. We were already able to hear the work last year, and I'm looking forward to seeing how he will express it live. I'll introduce the songs from his solo album tomorrow at this time, but the way he puts his passion into them is so powerful that it's almost terrifying. Roger Waters has now become a "proudly independent person" both in name and reality. I can only say that it is amazing that his repertoires from 10 years ago do not feel outdated in the slightest in this live set. Well, the second half of tonight's show will start with "If" from the 1970 masterpiece album Atom Heart Mother (Genshi Shinbo), which will be followed by "Pigs," "The Gunner's Dream," and "In The Flesh."
Narration-3: Tonight, we listened to Roger Waters' live performance held in New York on March 28th of this year. Did you enjoy the thick, heavy sound that makes you feel like Pink Floyd has come back to life? Tomorrow, the second day of this special feature, we will also introduce a couple of songs from Roger Waters' solo album The Pros And Cons Of Hitch Hiking. Please look forward to it! This program was composed by Naoya Mori, and the radio personality was Tamami Nishida.
