    I am Hungarian and I don't find the depiction of Hungarians in this game offensive as some "journalists" suggest. On the contrary, it is an honor that the creators touched Hungarian history in their game, and they even included dialogs in authentic Hungarian language (and the voice actors speak it very well, which is a rarity). I don't mind being the villain, because for the Bohemians at that time, we actually were. :D

    My boyfriend, unlike me, didn't have any specific sympathy for medieval history. He always used to tell me these were dark times and that there's nothing romantic about working in a field for 12 hours all covered in dirt, shitting in your own armor or dying in agony from a simple scratch. And now, as he's playing KCD, he tells me that he got the idea. Don't get me wrong, he still says he wouldn't like to be in Henry's shoes even for a day, but he now understands why the Middle Ages appeal to lots of people.
    My point from this whole story is that if someone managed to create a game with the atmosphere that could interest a person who's not even into the subject then it definitely means they did everything right!
    KCD team, you've made a masterpiece! Yes, I must admit it has more bugs than the flower fields near Ledetchko, but it is still a masterpiece :) You may be proud of yourselves. Greetings from Belarus.
    P.S. Those who prefer ignoring the truth in order to protect their view on things are no better than those who are actual racists or whoever ignoring just another truth.

    The game is a masterpiece imo. First game in a long time to have me hooked and fully invested in its storyline and characters from start to finish. Began to think I was getting too old for games and was losing interest, seemingly unable to become fully immersed in any recent rpg until this. Took me back to my obsession with morrowind and then oblivion after that. Gave me those same feelings of escapism and that I was part of a living breathing world with characters I cared about. Full immersion. Also love the fact its built on the cry engine which is something I longed for a developer to do, an rpg in cry engine!. Thanks warhorse for this special title and for being a company that seems to share my own ideas on gaming but unlike me have the power to actually create them!. Cant wait for future titles from you guys.

    KCD is a near-perfect game, in the sense that it had such a clear vision and got so close to achieving it perfectly. I really hope the success and fan base that has formed around it has had some impact in soothing the Devs after the controversy. It's one of my favorite games from a development studio who really gets it. I'm excited to see where they go from here.

    Nowadays people are used to live in hurry. They don't think much about their actions, because actually they don't have time to consider all options given. So do games! Many of them are just pretty fast-going and gamers also skips some quests or cutscenes, because game dictate fast playing and it's not good, but KCD did something opposite. Game puts player into huge open-world, which is truly beautiful (not boring), where time flows slower, there isn't too much action and, finally, player can relax and adore this excellent gameplay without any rush. That's where the whole beauty is.

    Fantastic episode as always. You did a great job addressing the controversy at the end and it was really great seeing someone give them the space and platform to really talk about. It's genuinely something that other media seemed to have no interest in. Seeing that there are real people on the other side of the computer screen is so important. Twitter seems to dissolve all empathy. Again, this is awesome work. I'm consistently blown away by the quality. Wish I had been able to throw a few dollars your way during the Kickstarter. Just getting around to playing it now, but I was blown away by the quality of the game's writing, acting, and music. On release the reviews colored it as a shoddy game that was basically unfinished but I didn't realize how high a quality certain aspects are. Now, 2 years later, most of the bugs and optimization issues have been fixed, and mods on PC have made the game even better. Really great game.

    The feeling of freedom, along with the immersion, is what makes this game hands down the best game I have ever played. It's now getting near the end of 2023 and still no word on KCD2? Henry has scores to settle, parents to avenge?!!
    I can only dream at this point it's in the making and an announcement is within arms length. Come on Warhorse Studios, you can give us a little teaser, surely? Improving on the first game will only bring success.
    I always thought wouldn't it be cool if there was a sequel that starts off with Henry, Hans Capon and others getting ambushed right after their journey starts when first game ends. This time though, Henry gets captured, tied to a tree, and we then get to see, from Henry's perspective, Hans Capon save us by taking out the bandits one by one. Just thought I would be a fitting start to the game....if there was ever a sequel made....cough....!!!!

Its also one of the most beautiful and extremely difficult open world rpgs still to date. Its in the top 5 for me absolutely. Massive achievement. Thank you WARHORSE STUDIOS for this epic opportunity to visit the past. Watching this still gives me chills and also makes me want to fire this up and play it right now. Also, i love wizards and magic as much as anyone but not having it makes this title more special. Of course he thought to create "Mafia," one of my all time favorite games since I played it 10 times near its original release. The attention to detail, realistic combat, focus on historical accuracy, and next-level story-telling of Kingdom Come: Deliverance are many of the reasons I liked Mafia so much. Like Mafia, some of the best moments for me in KCD are the mundane and hyper-realistic interaction between the player and an indifferent world where the player is merely another human put into such an interesting historical context. I still haven't played Kingdom Come past the few early hours because my PC is too weak but I was one of the backers and always believed in the vision and love realistic medieval stuff and visited a lot of european castles in my childhood and teens. I wanted to support anyone who has a strong vision and dares to create something with a bit of risk but also a ton of promise. I'm not disappointed at all. I grew up on a farm in southern germany and the landscapes in KCD are so realistic that childhood memories and sensations rushed back. I could smell the dry earth dust when working the fields, I could smell the forest floor, feel a breeze or the warm sun.

    Interesting documentary. Very nice to chill out and enjoy for free with my dinner. Minor gripes, though:
    Would like to have seen more about:
    - Why / What was the inspiration for the game? Why did the lead designer have the idea? It's a big leap from a Mafia game
    - The combat system and reviewing historical techniques
    - More about exploring the history and arcitecture and old ruins
    - The future for the company
    I think they dragged out the controversy bit a little too long. Okay, it's cool they touched on it, but I think the amount of bugs the game had upon release was more controversial. Oh well.
    Thanks for the doco.

      Thanks for the feedback! We had to be pretty deliberate with the topics we focused on as Warhorse are making their own big making of documentary detailing how the game was created. So we focused on finding financing, the philosophy behind the design of the game, what it takes to be a creative director and a little bit of the controversy.
      Thanks for watching!

    These guys need to make a medieval first person MMO.
    If they can create a community where people ignore one of the creators of the game to discuss one quest that they spent a few minutes on, you're looking at a fanbase who will invest massive time and money into your product.
    Also: Warhorse.... you guys really suck at telling people that this stuff is online... There's nothing from Warhorse Studio's regarding this documentary on your youtube channel...... WHY?
    I'd buy this documentary just to support you guys...
    Also... Set up a damn company patreon so I can give you my money.

    sadly mainstream game journalism is on Its very low, but that means It cant be worse, does It? Ah who am I kidding some "journalist" is probably right now writting something even more stupid. But thankfully most of us, players, customers have brains and can make our own conclusions and see through the clear lies, specially these days when there is so many examples of bad "journalism"

    • @larrygall5831
      @larrygall5831 6 лет назад +7

      This is because they're *not journalists.* Any fool can buy a camera and open a RUclips account, but to call yourself a journalist simply because you comment on games, many of which they never even played or they don't even like the genre. Journalism.. to journal (to record). There is no bias in real journalism.. if there's bias or an intended narrative, then it's editorial, commentary or just some opinion.
      We really need a licensing / qualification system for those trying to consider themselves journalists.. like a bar association is for law. Imagine a lawyer or doctor in name only.. someone buys a stethoscope and think they're qualified to practice medicine. Proliferating information is an extremely important function in society, and spreading lies and political propaganda is absolutely as dangerous as pretending to be a doctor. Wars are started, riots have been seen from reporting, and this is precisely what they want. Stir up trouble, then aim a camera at it. They only want to put ads in front of this chaos they themselves start, for financial gain or demented fame.. regardless of the disservice they've done to their fellow countrymen, and to their own nation.
      I know I went on, and I only intended to write 2 sentences, but this is something I'm obviously very passionate about, and disturbed by what's been done to it in the name of greed, fame or plain incompetence.

    The controversy just reflects badly on the silly journalists who have very little independent knowledge and therefore just repeat what they're told. "Oh African kings in Constantinople, that's close to Prague huh?" As an avid East Romaner I wish it was a lot closer but unfortunately the borders were quite distant in 1403.

    Hmmm, never occurred to me that the dialogue is less skippable because it's longer. If you compromise with brevity, it makes sense that you lose depth and it's less interesting, therefore you skip them rather than watch them because they're short. Excellent thinking. I love this game, so glad it's a success.

  • @DanielCarrapa

    Hey there.
    First, thank you for an excellent documentary about a game I've been enjoying immensely. I really loved the journey through the production, the troubles and tribulations that come with making a game like this, first in a series (hopefully), without the benefit of a franchise, and trying to build a new rpg concept on top of it all. Really, really loved it.
    Having said that, I would like to make a constructive criticism. I did not enjoy the last 15 minutes. I commend your courage to address a question that is interesting, but I strongly feel you should have put that entire discussion in a separate video, something like an extended interview video (as Noclip usually does). And not a part of this main documentary. Here's why...
    Whether you like it or not, whether you wanted to or not, the negative feel of that discussion taints the very moving tale of the journey to build this game. And, as important as the controversy was, it is not so significant that it should occupy a quarter of the time of the documentary. So, in my honest opinion, you should have ended with the positive fact that this game sold over 1 million copies in a few weeks, and leave the controversy to a separate video.
    Also, although I fully agree with the opinions of the Warhorse team, and think the controversy was ridiculous and based on ignorant claims, it would have been more interesting if the discussion would be contextualized by a wider view of the difficulties that devs can face in the current age of social media. So a few questions should be asked, to Daniel Vavra, for example, as if it is a good approach to react to attacks directly. I understand his feeling, I might have done the same. But people need to think that social media is a little more than a decade old. Should you engage these discussions directly? Are you not providing the attackers a greater audience - by sending the people that follow you into their arms. Shouldn't a team, working for a massive audience like the gaming industry, instead address these issues in a more distant, assertive way - certainly publishing their statements, trying to clarify issues - like, in this case, historical accuracy, realism, depth - while avoiding becoming engaged in internet wars that bring negative attention and boost the hatred - especially because the people that want to attack you will never, ever, acknowledge the truth in your arguments, no matter how grounded they are.
    Anyway, this is a constructive criticism, both to Gameumentary and in a way to Warhorse. I loved watching your documentary, and I love Kingdom Come: Deliverance, so keep up the good work and best success to you all.

    • @Gameumentary
      @Gameumentary  6 лет назад +6

      Thanks for your feedback. Really appreciate it, honestly.
      I tried to cover the controversy in a way that showed how it affected others in the studio outside of just Dan, as he's the main person you see reacting and responding to those things. I felt it was important to humanize the situation a bit, and let others speak to their side of the story regarding all that.
      It was also important to do this, because if we hadn't, I fear the entire conversation about the documentary would have been about why we didn't talk about that or whatever. Your comment kinda confirms that actually :D You watched the whole documentary and got the whole story instead of just wondering about that controversy.
      In regards to publishing their statements, I know that's what people would like us to do, but you have to realize that nobody would use Gameumentary as a platform to publish something like that when they could create their own tailored statements with a PR person standing over their shoulder. It's also not my intent. My intent is to showcase the stories behind the games and foster a positive community around that. So far, I think we're achieving that.
      I was actually quite impressed with how open Warhorse was to talking about this particular subject with me. I feel creating a separate video on the matter would just invite lots of toxic discussion and negativity, so that's why we did it this way.
      Thanks for your comment and feedback, it really is appreciated!

      @DanielCarrapa 6 лет назад +3

      Thank you for the reply. I had not considered those arguments and I'm glad you put real thought into it. I think you may be right, a separate video solely dedicated to this controversy might have that negative effect, and I understand your choices. In context, it does raise an interesting discussion about the impact that everything that revolves outside a production can impact the people within. Anyway, thank you and keep up the good work. Best regards.

    I second the way of non-violence as a viable option in this game, though i did not pursue that in my first playthrough XD As Dan said in other interviews there is just one mandatory fight to kill a person, as they could not figure out how to deal with him aside from killing. I for myself sunk in about 110hrs for 1st playthrough, and I feared to fight Cumans or bandits for most of the time. Had sword skill just barely above L11 in the end. I also love the variety of ways to finish quests, even if i fail at first part there are ways to proceed. I appreciate that. Last but not least as a Czech I love the nature of KCD, i recognize our forests, individual trees, for that I say BIG THANK YOU to Dan et co. for choosing CryEngine. That tool loves nature and plants, and i love the way this worked out.

    Just bought this game and love it already (just finished prologue). On the violence point, it's a bit like a criticism of the episode 1-3 Star Wars films I saw. The critic said that in those films, you see fights and lightsabers constantly, so you get desensitised to them and it becomes routine. In Star Wars episodes 4-6, the fights are rarer and you don't see lightsabers much, so they feel like a treat and that the excitement has built up to the fight, which makes them far more interesting. I think it's the same in this game - when you do fight, it's rare, so it's exciting and feels more emphatic and more impactful. And yes, there absolutely is an audience for smarter games. I buy barely any games nowadays because they're so dumbed down.

    I’m SUPER excited to watch this later! However, I do have a bizarre recommendation for a possible future documentary. There’s a game called Heathen that has been in development for over 5 years. Now, I know, y’all at gameumentary probably haven’t heard of it, but I have a feeling that there’s a REALLY interesting story behind that game’s development. The reason I think this is because if you look at a trailer or gameplay of it, Heathen looks like it was made by a relatively medium size development team. In reality, is the first game that Frog Factory has ever made. What’s even more interesting is that Frog Factory (the developers of Heathen) is actually a two-man development team. So yeah, I know this is probably a very specific recommendation, and one that is probably not going to happen, but I think it would make for a very interesting documentary. Anyway, I cannot wait to watch this and keep up the fantastic work! :D

      Oh, I for sure know about that game. I believe when I was running OnlySP (Only Single Player) we were one of the first websites to cover it. Super excited to see it's finally coming to fruition. Would be an interesting story for sure!
      For the moment we'll be focusing on some more high-profile subjects so that we can continue building our audience, but we fully plan on covering lots of stories like that as soon as we have a bit more of a stable audience. So much to cover there.

    focusing the end of the documentary on those retarded "controversies" takes away from the quality of this documentary
