The vast majority of songs Steven Wilson has anything to do with are sad, sad songs, about sad, sad topics, and yet his music *never* fails to make me happy. So weird.

I feel the same way. As if the melancholy uplifts my spirits because I can feel the pain of the narrator. The empathy stirred, fills me with a sense of joy and happiness. The best I can think to describe such a deep transference of energy.

Down inside my soul you are
The more I show the way I feel

This song has been the closest to my heart since I heard it in 2008. From 6.04 to 6.34.... that solo...that's pure love !! This song gives you goosebumps every time you listen to it with eyes closed.

A friend turned me onto PT last year, agree this is one of their best. So many of the tones and spatial sounds cast way back to groups like Barclay James Harvest. I put on some PT a couple weeks ago, when my sister was visiting, by the second song she was hooked, another fan.

Completely agree! And I never ever heard a drummer make a song in 9/8 groove like this... Imo it´s one of PT´s best works and definitely one of the best parts in music ever written and arranged 🙂

I love all of Steven Wilson's different projects; even his solo stuff is great, but I loooooovve Porcupine Tree the best. I've always been a prog rock lover, but these guys do it beautifully!

Steven's guitar playing (or should i say Steven's guitar "crying") from 6:35 onwards, goddamn those notes hit right in the feels
Also, I definitely am in love with the song in its entirety, but 4:40 onwards this song goes from great music to an other worldly vibe, one of the best build ups to and followed by an amazing outro.

I missed the chance of seeing them live way back in 08, also because i thought there would be plenty of other opportunities, but mainly because I needed to work overtime on a stupid project... In a job I was later let go like a dog as soon as the crisis hit hard and IMF were called to Portugal in 2010. Last year, I didn't make the same mistake. One of my life's biggest regrets, solved. Top 3 shows of my life, ever.

What's with Wilson and his music? Always so amazingly delivered and precise... And somehow they always manage to hit so deep in the feels while still seem so hopeful despite how dark and sad they are... And this is not limited to Porcupine Tree, soooo often when he's a featured writer in colaborations this shows.

Always in my thoughts you are
Always in my dreams you are
I got your voice on tape, I got your spirit in a photograph
Always out of reach you are
Cold inside my arms you are
Simple like a child you are
I remember when you took my hand and led me through the rain
Down inside my soul you are
The more I show the way I feel
The less I find you give a damn
The more I get to know
The less I find that I understand
    Innocent, the time we spent
Forgot to mention we're good friends
You thought it was the start of something beautiful?
    Well think again.
Mother lost her looks for you
    Father never wanted you
I trust to love and then I find you never really felt the same
There's something in your heart so cruel

    • @yashwanthsrini

What is this all about? I can understand that it is about someone's love for a person but I don't get why he included the parents too. That was a bit off.

    • @zucchinisurprise6347
      @zucchinisurprise6347 6 лет назад +4

It's about unrequited love - he's been rejected or jilted by the person he's singing to. If you read all the lyrics, he's clearly bitter, vacillating between his attraction towards her and his anger at her rejection. The chorus is him essentially stating that he's done with being "friends" if she won't acknowledge his advances. The mention of the parents is an insult, in a way; he's saying that she's essentially unwanted by her family and the people around her, but that even though he cares for her she ignores him.

How these guys make considerable amount of their songs very heavy without the decibel is something that gets me. The song would have a lot of depth, sadness and aggression without the loudness. Just the feel of the stuff. Hits my general passive aggressive feelings to the core. And thus I feel that I can't get enough of their songs. Love PT........🤘
