What a beautiful difference these people made that day. If even one sea turtle can be healed from human stupidity and littering it is enough and a victory for us all.
Barnacles can hurt the turtles. They can get on the nose and mouth and cause the turtle breathing problems, and if the turtle gets to many they can make it difficult for the turtle to swim!
I don't know what their shells are made of but in removing the barnacles, there are holes left on the shelf. It would seem to me that makes the turtle vulnerable to things getting into the holes and causing infection. It's great to remove those parasites but is there something, some salve used to cover the holes. Just wondering.
Does removing them from the shell not leave the shell exposed? It looks as if open pockets are left where the barnacles attached. Could this not cause infection and, in itself, cause drag from the water?
The shell is meant to be "exposed" Its a shell, protection for the turtle. Its made of Keratin, the same stuff your hair, finger nails and hooves, claws etc. are made of. The "open pockets" is just slight cosmetic damage with the "barnacle glue" compared to the actual barnacles that weight down and drag the turtle.
believe me sir, he wants them off. they burrow into the shell & probably cause an itchy sensation, besides weighing them down when they get so many, they cause bacterial infections also. always help turtles by removing them or bringing them somewhere they can do it.
They don't itch tho. The shell is made of Keratin, the same stuff your hair and finger nails are made of. There are no living nerve cells in the shell.
Parasites always remind me of the gold digger who married my dad. He used to be her boss and she was his secretary. I'm sure she was very helpful under his desk.
Barnacles add drag and as they get bigger they have a harder time moving.. Barnacles can hook fish lines and other ropes and then need I say more.. It kills them.. Or if there lucky, someone will see them and remove the net, rope and fish line.. So it all started with just Barnacles...
A G it's commensalism for the most par which means that the barnacles benefit from being on the turtle while the turtle doesn't get anything out of it and is not harmed
Mikhaila L they take them off because it creates drag force on the turtle, causing them to have to exert more energy to swim. Energy they need to find food with.
Mikhaila L Barnacles are not parasites but they do cause tremendous harm to the turtle when there is an infestation. The barnacles not only grow on the shell, but on the flippers, face, and belly, sometimes causing tremendous weight gain and drag in the water which reduces the turtles ability to dive and swim efficiently.
Those hitchhiking barnacles are not parasites. They don't affect the turtle in the slightest and removing it would just stress the animal. Please don't disturb the nature and just leave it be.
It is unfathomable to me that the person shooting the video didn't stick around to capture the whole process. Maybe the phone ran out of space. It is one of life's great unanswered questions.
But he is not helping the turtle by removing the barnacles this way! His actions could be causing the turtle significant pain and may lead to severe infections or even death. Placing the turtle in fresh water would cause the barnacles to fall off within two days. Sea turtles can withstand fresh water for up to six days, while barnacles can only survive for a maximum of two days before they perish and detach.
I'm so glad you did this gently with her, I've seen so many wrong ways they are doing this- God bless you 🙏
This is so satisfying to watch. It's almost as good as watching people popping pimples, or removing ingrown hairs.
johnshu1988x yes.. Ikr.
The barnacles should be released by submersion in fresh water, to avoid damaging the sensitive shell structure.
EXACTLY
What is that idk
@@geoffswoman eww 🤢🤢
The turtle was so relaxed like it knows that they are helping him
Or he was like: "well crap, I can't go anywhere... might as well save myself the effort"
Or it's half dead.
Or the turtle has been sedated
i could seriously watch this all day long

BRAVISSIMI! !!!
Do the barnacles harm the turtles shell or cause it pain ???
A G once they get many it will be heavy for the turtle. some stick to airways too.
A G it's commensalism for the most par which means that the barnacles benefit from being on the turtle while the turtle doesn't get anything out of it and is not harmed
Remastered Gaming yeah but how do they even get on the turtles ??
Remastered Gaming so like its the parasite of the sea?
Just Debbie correct it is a parasite
statisfying
Lamz 2015AJ fuck yeah
Good Jobs 👍
Good
I thought barnacles are harmless? Are you removing them because they are parasitic?
Mikhaila L they take them off because it creates drag force on the turtle, causing them to have to exert more energy to swim. Energy they need to find food with.
Poor barnacles. Who is gonna rescue them??
Freddy Krueger they are dead now so none
Mikhaila L Barnacles are not parasites but they do cause tremendous harm to the turtle when there is an infestation. The refuse removal men or women
his shell will cure by himself?
Omgg😩gosebumb watching this😳
If the rangers were coming to pick up the turtle, why not let them handle the barnacles? You can damage the carapace by removing them.
Hey! It tooks long time to collect!
I'd be tempted to pour a disinfectant into the holes after the barnacles were removed.
Coitadinhas 😲

That doesn't look like a green sea turtle, looks more like a hawksbill.
What damage can the barnacles cause?
For some weird reason, my skin itches.
What is this and why you are removing them
