Hi Jim, thanks for the suggestion. This is not a topic that we have had on our list, I will definitely add it. Thanks again
Colin
Yes, you are right ... lots of really cool things you can do with veneering. It is really one of those almost hidden, woodworking things that not many people know that much about or use.
Thanks for commenting :)
Colin
Thanks, it's really a good product that invites our imagination to take full advantage in the next project.
Hi Will, Yes, if you veneer only one side, especially on thinner substrates, the piece will warp. I don't think it's as much shrinkage as it is as moisture imbalance. I know when veneering 3/4" material, if you only do one side, it seems nice a flat for a while, but then often warps later on, which I think is because moisture cannot penetrate the sides equally.
Great question, thanks for posting
Colin
I'm thinking of veneer over an MDO 1/2" substrate ... wonder if I have to "balance" that?
I love your videos. I would love to see some projects where you use simple tools that most people have. For example making a simple desk with nothing but a skill saw, Jig saw, drill and a hand sander.
Hmmm ... I think I could do that, good challenge Joshua, I think I will put that on the list of things to do. Thanks for the suggestion :)
Colin
Great and nice job!
Thank You, Juan!
If you dont have vac press can clamps do the same?
thank you

Hi Colin,
I love your videos, Thanks and keep up the good work. I had a couple questions for you. The glue that oozed through .. are you able to sand it then stain it? Or is it ruined for finishing? Second, Can I just buy the vacuum bag and fitting? I have a pump from my HVAC days? If you can, who makes them? Thanks for your time.
dsplunker Thanks for kind words ... yes, if you do not use veneering glue, some glues can ooze through some of the more porous woods. (I have even had it happen the odd time with veneering glue)
If you pre-dye or pre stain the wood, I my personal experiences, it takes a finish fine. I you want to leave the wood natural, a light sanding often removes any small amounts of glues that ooze through and they finish up fine as well.
I get my vacuum press parts from joewoodworker.com , he has everything you would need and is very knowledgeable. Hope this helps ...
Would like to see in detail how to make cabinet does.
What's the name of the machine that sucks air out and makes vacuum?
Hi Colin , interesting vid, Question ,if you veneer just one side does the veneer tend to warp the base wood due to shrinkage ? Best regards Will
I haven't tried yet but my on-line research says you need to "balance" the veneer by doing both sides. I'm about to [try to] make a replacement walnut dash for a TR-6 so I'm researching quite a bit.
Hey this video was really help a lot
I just have a few question
I got problem with covering or edging the side small inside part of my plywood
Because i made like a wooden name
So i got problem when i want edging inside part because it's really small inside the letter
Like A B E etc letter
Can u give me a tips how to cover its side. . . . .
Tq before. . . . .
anliinterior Yes, that can be a tricky place to veneer, and you don't have much room to work. I do not know a good way of doing this. Sorry. I think you are going to need to experiment with what you think will work. I sounds like it will need to be done in pieces and perhaps you can use ordinary yellow carpenters glue, fit your piece ahead of time, then glue it and press it on, then perhaps you can use the Blue painters masking tape to hold it (??) and clean up any glue that oozes out. That is about all I can think of off the top of my head. Sorry, I am not very much help on this one.
It's okay
Sure thing i need to experiment again and again
I will try ur tips as well
Big thanks for ur tips. . . .
Keep make a good video . . . . .
😊😊
How about covering the use of spray guns and cleaning it.
