- This is a nice guitar for the money. Actually its quite good regardless of the price. The strings are Pro Arte Polished (Recording) Strings. They are old and smooth like flat wounds to reduce the squeak. No amp, just a mic over the end of the fingerboard. The tune is Nature Boy.

Hi Tim, I bought an NTX1 a while back based on this video. I have not been disappointed and really enjoying it! Been playing since 1978 and this is the first nylon sting I've owned. Very happy with it, and thank you for the video. Thanks for the videos, books, and all your contributions to help other players.
Thank you for sharing this. I forgot I was supposed to be listening to the guitar.
I have One and I’M very happy!!!
Oh man. That's some nice playing.
Just beautiful. A proper musician.
Thanks
Wow you're an amazing player, real soul in there
Beautiful sounds Tim
That was beautiful. What a blessing to hear first thing in the morning. Thank you 🙏🏼
Thanks. Your “gear reviews” are always compelling for one reason or another.
Thx for this video! Sounds amazing. Ready to see that new neck video on the TL chubby!
beautifully played man
Thinking about buying this guitar, thx for the review, and sound sample!
Great song choice . Great demo.
Really like your voicings. Thank you 🙏
Amazing playing
Got to get one of these. Thanks for sharing.
Very nice demo. Cheers.
Merci Tim , from France . the sound is in your fingers 👍
Beautiful Sir!
Lovely version of Nature Boy, as well
I don’t think I’ve any rendition of this song except by Nat King Cole but the nylon string , I feel, is a wonderful instrument to present the tune; and you do it so well!
Crossover. Terrific value and sound
Nice playing!
Goodness, Tim has a great versatile range! Love the tone on this...
Thanks for listening
just got this guitar today and hearing you play on it inspires me to learn more.. thank you
Any more insight into the guitar. I have narrowed it down to this guitar. Did you need to do anything to nut or bridge. Thx. JP
Beautiful interpretation. I have a very similar NTX700 from 2012. I had never played nylon, but I love the sound. At the price point I thought it was worth a try. I’m glad I did. Due to its size, weight, neck profile and tone it’s now the guitar I usually grab when I’m at home and feel like playing for a few minutes-although that can easily become an hour as it’s so satisfying to play. Yamaha used a different pickup system back then, but it’s excellent once you dial in the EQ. I imagine the NTX1’s pickup is even better. The nut slots were spaced a little too closely, so I had a new nut made to bring the E strings a little closer to the edge of the fretboard. I really like D’Addario EJ44C composite strings. The tone and intonation is better-especially the G string. The extra-hard tension feels more like a steel string that I’m used to. They last much longer than standard nylon strings too.
Please Tim make an album with this guitar.
Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes
YES YES YES TIM
Nice Nature Spanish Boy sounds!
Tim videos are always interesting and helpful, I watch a tons of guitar channels and sadly most if not all of them are paid to promote gear, some paid to say no this gear suck, when I try to buy a new gear I RUclips it and look for some spontaneous video of ordinary people posting headless poor quality videos filmed while the TV is on in the background, which is better than the fake channels but not greatly helpful, but Tim is a real pro and even if he wants to show you a new gear it’s always honest and helpful, most of them he actually own and play sometimes
Enjoy your playing very much Tim, phrasing, tone and chord inversions are beautiful. I studied with Johnny Smith in Colo. Springs, CO in the early 1970's.
Hi Richard, just to say hi and how wonderful to have studied with the great man.
I have one just to change it up at my gigs. Really a great guitar for the $.
Tim, Thanks. This is a beautiful tune that doesn't get covered enough. The songwriter's back story is a tale unto itself. Would you consider making a lesson of this arrangement?
Just Beauteeeful!!!
I have the same guitar and use those same strings! Yes, a great guitar for the price - thanks for posting!
Which strings? I missed that.
@@nathansterrett3054 Pro Arte Polished (Recording) Strings - he mentions them in the description.
@@guitardner I've had good luck with Dedario strings , hard tension
I played a bit of classical as a boy, but keeping up my nails interfered with my bass playing, which continues to be my first love. This video got me interested in trying a hybrid. From other videos I’ve watched, it seems like it’s possible to get some interesting sounds from playing pick and fingers…
Very nice
Tim, do you have any tips please for setting up this instrument, action height etc., do you have it lower than standard classical guitar? Also the make and gauge of strings your using in the video if possible please. You are a true inspiration. Thank you for posting.
HELL FIRE, THIS GUY COULD MAKE A 2X4 SOUND GOOD,,,LOL
I love mine.
Tim, just wanted to let you know I just bought and received this guitar, largely based on your review here, and am really, really pleased with it so far.
Your teaching, your outlook on music, and your fantastic playing (I was aleady a huge fan of your work in Pearl Django before I knew you from YT, and can't get over that happy coincidence) are such big influences for me. A recommendation about a nylon string that's going to fit in with your gestalt (and maybe with mine) is big.
Are you practicing a lot lot????😂
This is a beautiful piece! Bravo! What song is this? I absolutely want to learn it!
Great review, Tim. Thanks for doing it because I'm seriously thinking to buy one of these. What about the electronics? Worth to keep it or better upgrade it?
The pickup and pre amp are very good
Tim. Just saw this vid. Do you still noodle around with the nylon string thing ? I am considering transitioning to nylon string.
I have always played electric and acoustic. Contemplating the nylon string route. So the question is; do you believe that you would
ever just go to strictly nylon guitar or is this just another tool in your arsenal ?
Pretty! Have been thinking about getting one and this sold me. I'm not nearly that advanced tho lol. As I was typing this the ending played and I love the bluesy end. What piece was that?
Nature Boy
Sounds expensive and good to my ear. Have you tried the more expensive NTX3 and NTX5 models?
There's alot of options these days for this type of nlyon.....Anybody have any preferences (Ntx,Ibanez FRH10, Cordoba stage?)??
Hey Tim. Great review and playing as always. Was guitar playable out of the box? Thx. JP
It was very good. I did lower the action just a little bit but I don’t think it needed to be lowered to be playable.
@@TimLerchGuitar I have a cheap Jasmine guitar (someone gave me) with the saddle pick up, I couldn't get a set up I liked with any gauge of strings. I had a hair brained idea to try nylon on it, and it sounded amazing plugged in, it played amazing, it's a $75 guitar at best, makes me sick LOL
J'ai bien ta version de Nature boy
It sounds like you are using the electronics, or is that post editing in the computer. If you are using the electronics, are you using an amp? If so, which one?
No amp or electronics. Just a mic in front of the guitar with a bit of reverb in mixing.
What strings and gouge are you using on this guitar?
Extra hard tension
What strings you used in that guitar?
Pro Arte polished extra hard tension
👍🏿🤘
I wonder how it would sound without that microphone sitting in front of it
with out that mic in front of it you wouldn't be able to hear it at all.
How much is it?
He mentions it right at the beginning of the video?
Some melodies look like some bossa nova but I digress
