  • Here is our reaction to Mad Max from 1980. Father thought he'd seen this one but was wrong. So this is pretty much a first time reaction for the both of us. I think we both want to see the next in the series!!

You were thinking of the 2nd one: Mad Max II The Road Warrior. The 3rd one is just as baffling as this one, just in a different way. Then there's the new one which is pretty entertaining and I think another is coming out soon.
Good to see you guys back. Road Warrior would be cool, or you can do Galaxy Quest; everyone seems to like that one...

This movie is iconic. Popular umoung punk rockers at the time. The Road Warrior continues presumably a couple years later. Society has truely fallen at that point and Max is really just on scavage/survival mode. EPIC movie. Thunderdome is finally a big budget film. Anyone still alive huddles around Barter Town with its power struggles. Also, a small lush oasis exists inhabited by a large group of kids stranded from a plane crash, who encounter Max and look to as a savior/captain Walker.. 😂 so, the movie has a toned down kid friendly kind of vibe that doesn't merge the best with the wasteland theme of RW. Still some great performances and stunts.

I know it seems a bit odd now, but for those of us old enough (I grew up in the 80's and I'm Australian) this was great for it's time and has since become a cult classic, especially for the franchise, it is really a must to know why the man is, who he is. Oh, and thanks for not watching the US audio overdub version.. it is terrible!!!
The motorcyclist stunt person that got hit in the back of the head was for a long time understood as being killed in that scene on the bridge, but I do believe he actually did survive and is ok, but it was a nasty impact.
I think number two will redeem the age and shortcomings of this movie, but I think should should try to get through the franchise if you think it's worth it.. even number three, another odd one, was big for its time, the actors, the custom soundtrack hit from Tina Turner etc, it has its place.
Interesting fact - "Filmed on a budget of A$400,000, it earned more than US$100 million worldwide in gross revenue and set a Guinness record for most profitable film. The success of Mad Max has been credited for further opening the global market to Australian New Wave films."
Thanks for watching them, good to have you back. Cheers.

I think part three may not be the best movie in the franchise, but in retrospect it fits right in its spot. Its the part that went full fairytale. And we never came back from it.
