I always sew my crotch seams this way because I prefer to sew them when they are flat, it's just easier to make it line up, ensure your not sewing it wrong and have it be nice. 10/10 recommend it.
Oooh you are spoiling us, can’t wait to see all the sewing adventures , I bet it turns out brilliantly - it does! That top is amazing I love it so’40’s and flattering xx
The summer sets turned out so well. Well done. "The internet will be impressed. And your cats will respect you." Substitute in Guinea Pigs and daydreams of starting a YT sewing/creating channel... and I'm right there with you. This is at least part of the reason why I picked up a size 14 1950's summer set, when I am, in fact, closer to a size 18 or 22 - Ms. Stephanie Canada held one of her public unboxing of old patterns (hint - if you trust to fate that all the pattern pieces are there, the price is amazing). Because I'm apparently a masochist for upsizing. I'm also about to start my first ever pair of pants. Suggested offerings to the Sewing Gods (both the old & the new) would be appreciated. The patterning geography for pants is So weird... And, side point, honoured to be the first commenter when you discount the usual 'adult porn sites' automatic comments. Those things are everywhere; must be a little discouraging at time. Anyways, great video. Cheers. Hope the temp improves soon. - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi
Delightful kitten helper is not wrong about sewing being witchcraft. I've been using a lot of bedding to sew and foresaw your dying outcome, they came out much better than some of my polycotton attempts though, very well done! I made a pair of very baggy trousers out of assumed white cotton sheets and discovered after dying that the back of one leg was not like the others. I find dylon machine dyes more consistent than hand dye, but the colours are Never like the are on the packet.
I definitely find the machines dyes more consistent, and I have had some Dylon dyes (particularly the greens) come out pretty true to colour. But dyeing is always a bit of an experiment 😅
Honestly... I probably never would have thought about the sweat stains on sheeting. 😬 But I do make sure that if I'm buying a sheet for sewing/mock-ups I I won't buy it unless it still has its tag so I can verify fabric content
your videos are always a great joy to watch!!! everything you make is so unique and it is really inspiring to watch. and the humor is amazing. i LOVE how you edited the part where you were thinking about dying the clothes, I can totally relate to that when it comes to literally any creative endavour I choose to do haha. anyway I think the clothes turned out amazing!!! (like all your creations do in my opinion=). It is also very inspiring the way you always come up with ways to solve the problems you bump into in the process!
Ahh Puddles, so cute. Lovely makes, they came out just as I imagined from your descriptions; honestly it is what I was thinking of. As for summer, it has only just ended, well today is the first time I have seen rain since! er since! (never mind). I have a whole range of shirts from bedding so keep them coming.
They look good, despite the length of time it took to make them, or perhaps because you took your time to make them and made them well. Either way, they're great and are now going to be ready for an unseasonable Autumn heatwave and also next year's Summer Crucible! 👏👏👏
I makes me so happy that people like the voices I give my cats. I love editing those bits and they make me laugh, which is why I do it. But it’s always nice to know that other people are on board 😅😂
I mean, there are also other fluids that mean dye sticks to those areas more, but I couldn’t find any way of explaining that and didn’t sound either really gross or really dramatic. 😬😂😂
I want to make *something* with the original poofy sleeve pattern I took the arm hole shape from, because I think they would be almost terrifyingly poofy. But I will need SO MUCH fabric 😂😭
These are very cute summer garments indeed! And kitten helpers got to be the best!! Did you crochet the skull pincushion yourself?! What an amazing sewing accessory!! 😻👏
I didn’t crochet it, but a friend of mine did! She made it to be a little ornament to pop on a shelf, but I realised it would make a fabulous pin cushion. She loves that it’s being used (and also being admired). I’ve actually commissioned her to make me a little pumpkin one 😍
Yes! So many amazing items and love the color. Haha cheers to potentially disastrous decisions that make things more wearable! Oddly I've been able to use tide pens to correct some splotch-iness in dyed items. It can lighten the spots right outside of the splotch too but I like that they're less noticeable anyway. I put a rag under, moderately dab the whole stain more inside than outside and rub more at the edges of the splotch, then rinse and wash. Keep in mind things are darker when wet so you don't have to scrub until it disappears. I haven't tried it with prestained bits, but since they're something tide pens would presumably help with, maybe there's a chance? The whole splotch doesn't usually go away entirely without making a significant pale spot but it makes it much less noticeable.
Well, part of that is just practice (I’ve done a *lot* of winging it in my time 😉), and part of it is that if a project was totally disastrous I wouldn’t really have a fancy reveal bit to show you, so it would be a different style of video 😂
These are lovely! I really prefer them after dyeing too :) I'm looking forward to making my own trousers to fit me right- shop sizes are just a nightmare
Oh, trousers/pants are particularly tricksy with standard sizing I think. Especially if you have are short or long waisted, or have different waist to hip proportions than standard sizes allow for 🙄
fun coincidence this month (I am watching this in march 23) simplicity magazine here on the continent has all those wrap dresses from the UK thread mag. I was just checking out the review by Benesaddict a few hours ago... mysteries of the cosmos/algorithm.🕵🏾👩🏾💻
Oh man, I already have so many feelings and I'm only one minute in. First I can't hear the word culottes without cringing (they were the ugliest part of a uniform (boyscout adjacent type group) in my youth and I just remember hating them so much.) Next half to that, what defines culottes? bc I just remember them being kind of like pants but uncomfortable? Second is ugh. I love how a crop top looks on other people but I'm so freaking short waisted that it's more like 'show off a tit when you raise an arm' look on me 🤦
I think of culottes as being wide leg trousers that are shorter than trousers, but longer than shorts. I don’t know if that’s the official definition though 😂

Me also
Totally agree! And things like this is part of the reason I don’t pay much attention to pattern instructions 😂
don't feel bad I have several Modes & Travaux special edition magazines that instruct you to do that. must be a french thing.
I had no idea dye likes sweat stains!
Feline supervision is important!
Dye also likes deodorant. Lol it'd interesting to play with that, now that I think of it.
I mean, without feline supervision I’m sure I’d never get anything done 😂

Adorably full of 40s moxie and pizzazz. Puddles also. Well done, you two.
Oh, they turned out super cool :D Also love your humor! The dyeing part was so relatable xD
I love your seat of the pants sewing, pun intended. Brava.
Ugh, I wish my whole wardrobe was garments like this. I think the dye looks great too, even with the weird spots.
Beautiful! You look amazing in all of them! Love the “voices” (especially of your lovely cats).

😂 I’m so relieved that it isn’t just me that found that funny! 💚
Flipping adorable! I love the color. But even more, I love the outfits.
That is the cutest lil pincushion!!
I’m addicted to your videos

Well, and being a poly-cotton blend does make them a little more autumn & spring appropriate, I suppose 😅
Cute and heckin' comfy. Also, More Puddle!
Well, she insists on being beside me while I do *everything*, so you’ll be seeing plenty of her in future 🥰
Haha also you should put the dye goading you bit into its own short.
Great sewing content and speaking kitten cameos, what more could we want?! 🖤
I makes me so happy that people like the voices I give my cats.

Just the content I was waiting for!💜
Like them better after the dye job, even if there are some splotches. Enjoyed the video.
I love all your videos! Didn't know about the sweat/dye reactions. I still think everything came out excellent and ohhh those poofy sleeves 😍!
I mean, there are also other fluids that mean dye sticks to those areas more, but I couldn’t find any way of explaining that and didn’t sound either really gross or really dramatic. 😬😂😂
Those poofy sleeves are superlatively poofy. Love them so much.
I want to make *something* with the original poofy sleeve pattern I took the arm hole shape from, because I think they would be almost terrifyingly poofy.

Gosh I do love watching your videos, I have a big chest and changing and making patterns bigger to fit is something to experience lol
Oh, for sure. It is an *undertaking* 😬
OMG THE PUFFY SLEEVES!!!! 😍 Fantastic job! Love all the pieces.
I have to admit I always sew the crotch seam before closing the trousers up - it’s just easier 🤷🏼♀️

Tide pens is a really interesting idea! I might have to give that a try!!
That pincusion!!!Need pattern!
I've always wanted to name a cat puddle ❤
These turned out fantastic and I’m so impressed with your ability to just wing it and have something beautiful at the end.

It was definitely risky 😳😂

I actually didn’t buy it! It belongs to my my partner, so I acquired it when we moved into together 😆
