    this dress is soooo cute but also hallelujah finally youtube led me to a plus sized sewist doing fairly normal sewing. I love watching people craft but as someone who isn't skinny it's so easy to get fatigued of watching stick thin people make either incredibly complex pieces or tying squares on their body and calling it clothing.

    Any and all sound vid ideas great to me ❤ I think it's important for RUclips creators to focus on what brings them joy and passion, because it creates a more dedicated and genuine community, rather than trying to focus on metrics. I say this as a digital marketing manager and as a viewer ❤

    • @haleyhoudini
      @haleyhoudini 5 месяцев назад

      Not that I was implying you were focusing on metrics! It's a tough balance, vying for growth and visibility while trying to maintain an actually active audience. Generally speaking, higher engagement leads to more quality subs, as opposed to getting a lot of subs because someone got lucky or hit the SEO stuff just right, but then engagement metrics decline because the audience was fleeting/trending rather than loyalists.... If that makes sense!

    Detachable sleeve idea is awesome. What about sewing a channel across the shoulder cap of the sleeve with openings at the shoulder seam and thread the shoulder ties up through them. You could tie at the top/shoulder or tuck the ends in and hold with a safety pin or brooch. Under the arm you could put in a couple of snaps under the arm because it doesn't need to be fully closed, as long as it's tidy.

    I love the dress on you and the sleeves are so cute. I love the look of shirring and how easy it makes getting literally any piece of clothing on, but my sewing machine has this one weird issue I've been running across that has been making the entire process impossible. One of the metal pieces that feeds the elastic keeps flinging up and it causes each loop of the top thread to not properly go around and it incorrectly feeds the elastic... I think it's something to do with a hook on the metal but I've been dealing with this for months. Aaaa, the glorious struggles of sewing. Sorry, love the piece!!

    Another channel hack is to do a wide tuck and then top stitch it. I used ribbons instead of elastic and left a gap to loosen and tighten it. Can also do two channels on each piece and tie bows at the side.

    Thank you for sharing your shirring technique! I'm going to try it on my next project!❤ I have a question though, when your bobbin runs out, do you have to do anything special with the end left in the garment? Or do you just wind a new bobbin and backstitch & go, same as you would with standard thread?

    Love LoVE love! The dress. Who knew bed sheets could look so cute!
    I have a question with the sheering- do you have to cut the pieces larger or is it fine if they fit you, the sheering is only there for ease of on and off, right? It’s not like gathering, where you need to cut extra, right?
    Also, also, I would LOVE costume breakdown videos! I think it’s so cool how cosplayers recreate garments and I would love to do it one day. But, I don’t understand how they start and what the thought process is to execute?
    Also, your home is SO lovely. (Hahah apparently “love” is my word of the day today)

    • @armedvsokord
      @armedvsokord 5 месяцев назад +2

      Shirring requires there be enough material for you to get it on and off with it a zipper. In the video she's taking something bigger and not fitted to her at all and using it to create the fitted look. The dress conforms to her because of the elastic, you can see how much bigger it is and how it would look without the shirring at time stamp 10:30. You don't need that much extra, just enough to get it on and off but the general look with shirring is lots of gathers of the extra fabric.

    • @jasminv8653
      @jasminv8653 5 месяцев назад

      Yeah, modern shirring is basically bunching up a non-form-fitting garment to the body by gathering it to fitted elastics. Historical folk shirring is a way to tightly tightly gather extra fabric in, for example, the sleeves and collar in places that need to be skin-tight, but will not have any ease.

    My favorite part of using sheets is that they are already hemmed. I just bought a set of sheets at the thrift store for $6.00. The selection was not good, most of the sheets were pilled and weird, I felt really lucky with these.
