Falconry: Rolled Anklets

This falconry video teaches how to make rolled leather anklets for aylmeri jesses. I use these anklets specifically for gyr falcons and saker falcons, because they are incredibly strong, but can be made more narrow than any other anklet. In this video I explain why this matters. These anklets can be used on literally any raptor species, from goshawks, harris hawks and red tailed hawks, to peregrine falcons and golden eagles. This video demonstrates how to make them, and explaines the logic behind their use, and why they work so well for gyr falcons.

I knew a falconer who trained an owl once for falconry and said he would never do it again. Said it was a nightmare to train it and get it to cooperate with him
