- Hi guys!
I was flipping through my A Level English Literature folder the other day and thought I would share with you some of my tips on how to write an A grade essay. I was on AQA but obviously in terms of writing an academic essay for A Level (or equivalent) these tips will also help you in terms of how you should structure your analysis of various literature. Stick around until the end as I read out some extracts from one of my A grade essays!

That would be great and would it be possible to do one on comparing poetry with a play? In my course , we have to compare a selection of Rossetti poems to A doll's house.

How long should the essays ideally be?
Hey! If it’s coursework you will have a set word count but for exams I used to average an A4 page every 8 minutes. However, I know that I wrote far more than my classmates and they all got good grades too. So I’d say try and focus on quality in your exam rather than quantity ☺️
@@KatieMay7 thank you! And how long would you spend planning and writing?
In an exam probably about ten-fifteen mins planning, then write until about ten mins before end of exam so I could you back over and check everything ☺️
@@KatieMay7 ah so you would only spend about half an hour or so on writing? (If each question should take 50 mins) and you'd produce around 3-4 sides?
What did you get in English literature As/A level
+Aami Ashraf three As and a C in English (C was AS year and the school lost my exam paper)
