I got it from Classic Industries about 7yrs ago and its still holding up to the brutal sun from where I live and they still sell it. Its called a REAR WINDOW LOUVER and not only does it look good I noticed that it blocks out a lot of the sun and keep the car A LOT cooler in the inside of my car. Its kind of expensive but well worth it!
The reason why I put these on is because the orginal speakers behind the driver and passanger seats ripped and my monsoon system has no problems and sounds GREAT with these kenwoods! The orginals only last about 6 months if you listen to the radio on a moderate volume. So I bought a very good and dependable speaker to replace it for $60 and the orginals form the dealer are the same price....for just one! My brother put these on his camero with no problem.
Yes you are right that there are no highs in the rear speaker. But like I have said before in the other comments, the reason why I put these speakers in is because they are a lot cheaper than the factory ones form the dealer. I haven't had the time to do another vid on those but I installed these same type of speakers in the rear seats cause the price was a good deal. I did wire them the same way as I did the front.
Yes they are the same as the ones in the front but havent made the video of how to do it yet. All you have to do is just remove the cover, remove the 4 screws and either crimp or solder the speakers and thats all. Need to make that 5 min video. Its really easy.
Since the wire is probably cut your going to splice(reconnect with some copper wire) and then make your own connection. If you want the orginal connection your gonna have to get the whole wire harness from a CHEVORLET DEALER that comes with more stuff than you need and will cost alot! Obviously, to fix your problem your gonna have to remove the sail pillers to find out if that wire is even there.
You might want to try CLASSIC INDUSTRIES, YEAR ONE or CLASSIC INDUSTRIES. If they dont have them you might have to try your local junkyard. I think CLASSIC INDUSTRIES might have them. Just to let everyone know, all these companies have more stuff that they dont show in their catalogs so ALWAYS call or ask to be sure! All the parts that I buy are form CLASSIC INDUSTRIES, that where I bought the REAR WINDOW LOUVERS. I use is to block the sun and keep the inside cooler, and it does!
On my car the wire was never messed with, the wire connector had no modifications. I'll try to do another vid on those speakers cause I have the same speakers for the ones behind the driver and passenger seats. The only thing I can think of is that someone had a really long wire coming from the speaker itself and didnt need the long length of the orginal connector wire so they cut it really short. I hate cutting into any wires cause my OPINION is that you can reuse them and are dependable.
You put these same speakers in the rear sail panels? How did you wire them? The rear speakers are dual 4 ohm, and the Kenwoods are a single 4 ohm.... Also, I THINK the monsoon system has a x-over for those speakers, so there are no highs coming through that speaker. So its kind of a waste to put a 2 or 3 way speaker in that place. (learning that through experience myself) I attempted the same install, but no highs come through, regardless of how I wire it. Therefore my BELIEF of x-over.
??? They SHOULD be there? Ok just to be sure, the sail piller that your are talking about are the TWO FRONT SPEAKERS or the SPEAKERS BEHIND THE DRIVER OR PASSANGER SIDE?
Hey man I had a couple questions. What size speakers are the Kenwoods? Does that package come with two speakers? Whats an alternative if you don't have a solder?
sounds like you know something about Camaro sound systems. I have a 2000 Camaro and the front left speaker blew so I am replacing both front speakers. I am thinking of speakers from the infinity line. either the infinity reference series 2 ohm impedance or the kappa's also 2 ohm. I know that the monsoon speakers have 2 sets of wire 1 powering the full range and other powering tweeter. is the infinity reference series compatible?
Hey brotha got a question for you, my sail panel speakers were removed when I bought the car, I can't seem to find the factory wore for them, do you have any idea as to were they are?
thank you so much from the UK , however i cant disconnect the sliding lock mechanism from the steel rod AT 3.mins 50 secs on your film, i have a 99 black convertible here in wigan nr manchester. scared of braking anything as trim parts are not easilt come by . thanks guys
Try to pull it out GENTLY. The sliding lock just snaps on the hook so a little bit of pulling should do the trick. When it comes loose try to wiggle it out a little because its kind of tucked in the door bezel and is covered by it but its just a small piece.
Its the sail pillers that are in the middle, infront of the trunk but behind the driver and passenger. its weird. :c i can not find a trace of the wire for it
yeah but those factory woofer foam (not good ole rubber) surrounds deteriorate to nothing and sound horrible since there is nothing on the outer edges of the speaker after that.
Those are totally the wrong speakers for the stock Monsoon system. Wrong type of speaker, wrong impedance, etc. Hope you like highs because you have 3 tweeters on each side so 6 tweeters total just for the front....2 on the new Kenwood 3-ways and the stock tweeter all together. What a mess. Those also do NOT work in Camaro's because of the way the Camaro doors are wired which is different then a Firebird. Just because something fits in the mount doesn't mean it is supposed to be there.

You're a lifesaver! I missed the two hidden screws!

Yes the package comes in pairs, they are 6 1/2 inch and you can use the supplied wires that come with the speakers instead of soldering them.

So did you keep the stock tweeter also working? Looks like the kenwood has a co-axial tweeter also
good video man.
Awesome video man thanks so much

Also, is that other piece, at the top left side of the speaker, reserved for tweeters in case someone wanted to go with component speakers?

I'm not sure what tabs you're talking about. The two little white ones?
Hey man I had a couple questions. What size speakers are the Kenwoods? Does that package come with two speakers? Whats an alternative if you don't have a solder?
Incubus!! Good video man
How much would it cost for both doors?
Not that I have a problem with soldering. I'm just wondering if it's a bad thing to use the insulated terminal connectors instead of soldering.
more like plug and play though if you reuse the factory connectors.
Do you have anything on the back seat speakers? And are those speakers you put in 6 and 1/2 inch?

Where did you get that rear hatch peice????? That is a bad ass looking ws6.
So, you were using these with the stock monsoon amp I assume??
Are those 2 way speakers or 3 way? I have a 2001 camaro

also is the correct size 6.5 or 6.75 cause I have heard the 6.75 are correct

I wouldn't know where to atatch the wires, I have stuck my arm down into the sail piller speaker holes And i cant find a single wire :/
Speaker size for front got 00camaro
Yeah are monsoon systems have 4 wires to each speaker separate terminal for tweeter ...not looking forward to cutting the speaker up and shit
yeah but those factory woofer foam (not good ole rubber) surrounds deteriorate to nothing and sound horrible since there is nothing on the outer edges of the speaker after that.
Metra makes some pigtails with the GM connector and 2 slip on terminals one big one small, www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002BEUZ8
