Did you know this video is over 2 years old? did you know i made an easy to follow updated version with time saving tips and tricks that blows this one out of the park? Rain, you are awesome for putting all of this info out there for free. I'm almost finished with my very first avatar and I couldn't have done it without you.
Hey! I just wanted to let you know you can still use proportional editing to edit the eyelashes without messing up the head, and without hiding the head also! There's a little menu icon that looks like a curvy mountain right next to the circle proportional editing icon on at the top of the viewport in edit mode. If you click this, a dropdown menu appears. Here you can change the shape of the falloff but ALSO there's something that says "connected only". If you check this box, proportional editing will only edit parts of the mesh that are connected to each other and not the rest. Love your videos!
Thank you for these videos, they are super helpful!! For what you said at 3:00 I ran into this issue but REALLY didn't want to have to redo my shape keys. A semi-solution is highlight your vertices then Mesh - Snap to Symmetry. As long as your vertices are only microscopically out of place like mine were, that should fix it and let you to mirror the shape key.
Honestly I'm so impressed with this tutorial, thank you and great job! Its concise and gets straight to the point while explaining everything with just enough detail for those familiar with blender. You earned a sub :>
Thank you very much for this. Your video was everything I needed to know to get my avatar's visemes setup. Videos like this help sooo much when I feel overwhelmed with modeling and rigging.
I found that if you have the face and eyelashes as a seperate mesh , name the blendshapes the same, its a little easier to make those visemes and when you are done you can join the meshes and the blendshapes will join also, thanks for linking the viseme ref sheet
I am trying to make shape keys for vowels but I don't know how to simultaneously move teeth & mouth. I only am succeeding at moving my mouth. I have A vowel shape for mouth but for the teeth I can't seem to do at same time? how do I achieve this? Solved: All I had to do was join the teeth to the head mesh & highlight lower and upper teeth and create a vertex group in edit mode , this allowed me to edit mouth and lips separately while being part of the same mesh and become part of the same shapekey.
hi! sorry if this is suuper basic knowledge and im a dummy, but at 0:59, how did you make the head and eyelashes together in object and edit mode, but you can still click and hide the eyelash in edit mode? this is whats confusing me the most :,) (love ur model sm btw)
Hi someone made me a vrm model and I tried adding blendshapes to it but the eyebrow and blink blendshapes move the ears and not the eyebrows. The blink blinks but they look freaky and the ears too…idk what to do halp
Hello sensei i have 3 questions First of all when you paint weight how did you mirror it so that when you painted on the left side of the chest it automatically applied on the right side simultaenously secondly with the cats plugin can you retarget animation from mixamo and How? thirdly when you are done rigging and weight painting how do you set drivers or controls to the bones, is it different from the usual way in every other tutorial and if there is a diiffernt way how do you change those fk legs to iK for hand keyed animation
Hello, great tutorial! Just 1 question cats is just to automatically add the new visemes right? I’m using blender 3.3 and cats isn’t working on it so if I manually do all 52 of them I should be good right? Thank you :D
Also I'd totally recommend the blender guru and Grant Abbitt if you intend on using blender a lot. They both teach you how to use a LOT of shortcuts that make life easier
You go far too fast for a beginner & don't explain things thoroughly enough. It would have been great if you explained how you selected the verts only on the edge @1:09.
OKAY. I just tested in Unity and everything seems to be working pretty well! Thank you so much. I had some background in Blender but your videos really helped me! I used a combo of creators' videos to make it all work but as far as actual vrchat avatar creation went, your videos really helped the most. Here's what she looks like so far

Using face sets and sculpt mode is great for making the blinking blendshapes and such
thank you , this is what i've been loking for

ok, now when you say "CH" sound, am i rigging the mouth for the "ch" or the "uh" ? sorry for all the questions...
can this work too with 2d faces??
Would this work for stuff like vseeface and such?
Live your vids, I'm still overwhelmed, limited time, how much do you think it wud cost me to have my supplied model made vrchat rdy for me?
Also I'd totally recommend the blender guru and Grant Abbitt if you intend on using blender a lot. They both teach you how to use a LOT of shortcuts that make life easier
Yeah I'm the one with the significantly reduced attention span
Good video. Shame about the unnecessary talking avatar actually hiding some of the screen detail!
You go far too fast for a beginner & don't explain things thoroughly enough. It would have been great if you explained how you selected the verts only on the edge @1:09.
you're on the wrong video, this is the overview, the longer, slower video is on my channel
@@RainhetChaneru OH. My mistake. 😅
