  • I guess I should have searched for this pdf:
    files.hotchkis....
But either way I think this shows what is involved in installing one of these. Everything was still hooked up to the engine, it wouldn't have fallen on me even if someone had dropped it all the way down. If I think of anything else that should go here I'll add it later. No one ever reads these anyway.

    Thanks for the video!
Alternative for the masses: when I drop the front subframes in my shop for these cars (most often to do oil pans and gaskets), I leave the front LCAs connected, struts or coilovers in place, and let those support the weight of the cradle for me via the front LCAs and radius rods.
This is a great time to upgrade or refresh the OE motor mounts as well. Huge time saver with cradle dropped versus having to jack up the motor 4"...
I DO remove the front brake calipers, pads and rotors before dropping the cradle, because that takes about 80lbs of dead weight out of the equation, and they're pretty painless to take off. The actual cradle is quite light, and letting the struts and knuckles support it for me while replacing a sway bar or pulling an oil pan can be helpful.
LIKE if this info/comment was useful so I know if it's worth my time to post these. 🍻 ✌

Yes. Can I get in touch with you as you seem to be very knowledgeable and kind enough to share. I’m about to do coilovers, front and rear sways and every single bushing 😵‍💫 would be honored to get extra guidance.

Thanks for the video it was really helpful. I am installing Coilovers right now and figured since I’m doing other suspension stuff as well to get the swaybar and install it. I was able to remove the old swaybar in one piece without taking apart all the suspension, for the most part just lowered the sub frame about a few inches with a jack. Thanks again for the video.

@@emilkadow658yo im doin full suspension on my GTO soon. So you never needed to hold the engine or drop the subframe to remove/ install sway bar? I’m doing pedders but im sure its very close or equal to, its competitors? Would love help!!!

@@Lunt-le9jz I did have the engine hoisted up and lowered the sub frame to get clearance to install the sway bar. Kinda a pain to do but not impossible. Also when re attaching the subframe make sure it’s aligned correctly otherwise your steering will be a little goofy.

@@emilkadow658 got it, thank you. Do I need the front and rear alignment tool for that. Also, do I just hold the engine in place with a cherry picker and then let everything drop from there ?

Everyone looking for information reads the description. 🧐
I’m not sure if I’ll ever do this upgrade, but I’m glad there’s a video out here for me to reference if I do.
    How’s it feel?

Honestly, it's not that noticeable. I think that since I did coilovers and all the basic suspension stuff last year all at once, and now I've done the rest of it all at once, I just don't remember how it was before. It's probably worlds above worn out 80k mile suspension but it's still a 3700 lb car with a crappy trailing arm rear suspension. My rust bucket 91 Calais442 feels like it handles way better. Now I've done a ton of suspension work on it too but it only weighs 2800 lbs so I think that probably has a lot to do with it.
It's also likely that I just don't have the sway bar links in the right holes too, Idk

@@evsnova74 I’ve been fortunate enough to have drivin v8 s10’s my whole life. A shopping cart with a rocket on it 😂
Gto handles like a dream to me. Ignorance is bliss.
What tires are you running? I hear that’s going to make the biggest difference in handling.

@@goat_life254 I've got these bottom of the barrel Barums on the front, some worn out Michelins on the back. No idea how they got so worn

@@evsnova74 that may be the issue. I have bfg comp2’s which I think are discontinued, but before my gear swap I could floor it from a stop without spinning with 235’s. My new wheels have them as well but 225/245, anything larger is out of stock.

@@goat_life254 I wasn't really judging it from cornering speeds or grip, just body roll or the "feel" of it when slaloming. It's not bad though, just not as good as my other car. I wouldn't be surprised if it performed better on a skid pad though.

Just use the search term "site:ls1gto(dot)com" then sub frame, or cradle, or maybe even sway bar.
