  • On June 9th, 2011 the Camden City Fire Department was distpatched to the intersection of Chestnut and Orchard Streets for a Building fire. Upon arrivial Ladder Company 2, Squad 7 and Battalion 1 Glassman reported heavy fire in a three story vacant structure with exposure issues. Ladder 2 and Squad 7 immediately went into service to protect the exposures on the "D" side of the building.
    Battalion 1 and Car 1 Harper eventually called a total 14 alarms. Companies from Camden, Gloucester and Burlington Counties were called in to help battle the blaze that consumed two city blocks. There were a few minor firefighter injuries. The cause of this blaze is under investigation.

    Holy cow! The whole block practically burned down!
    Very scary! And I am impressed with the bravery of the firefighters. There is only so much they can do.
    At least if nobody dies, then mission accomplished. You can always rebuild a new more fire-resistant structure. Human lives are what is most important!

    I remember this like this was yesterday, i was in the second grade and this was literally 2 blocks behind where I lived. Everyone received hotels and money. Some got new homes

    Oh that's simple...unless there's lives at stake all we're gonna do is keep the fire in check. Not gonna go risking our lives for abandoned property

    That wind constantly shifting makes a tough job into a real pain and adds to the danger of not seeing the signs of collapse.

  • @ffjsb

    There are no 1" hoses being used in this video. Camden is an urban fire dept. and like most urban depts they don't carry hard suction (it's not vacuum hoses) or low level strainers. The water in the gutters is full of debris and is not a reliable source of water supply.

  • @ff2832
    @ff2832 13 лет назад +1

    @sharppointy1 Hello, yes we try to force the wall inward to fall on itself if it is going to collapse. The idea is that we would rather it fall in then out on one of us if we should have to be close to the building, or what is left. Hope it helps thanks for the kind words.

  • @TheCodymcclung51

    @patcism In general firefighting terms Alpha is the front of the building with Bravo being the left side, Charlie being the back, and Delta being the right side. A for the front and sides B C & D go clockwise around the building.

    What did the investigation ever determine?

  • @1906639
    @1906639 12 лет назад +1

    Depending on the fire, and how much water is available, they use different amounts of water. In the beginning, they're using 1" hoses, whereas towards the end they're using 2 1/2" hose. As for the water in the gutters, I'm assuming you mean the water collecting on the road. That can also be reused. The pumpers and or tankers have vacuum hoses for such reasons.

    now how the hell (literally) did they manage to start that fire in an abandoned building?

    • @emt5330

      Perhaps homeless people cooking. Or drug users lighting up a torch to cook their product.
      Or, it was set on purpose

    Not really the citys responsibilty. The big problem is iresponsponsible owners. Waterbury Ct just had a simular fire. The building owner had closed a going factory just to cash out.He owes at least a million in taxes,and could care less as long He is out on his big boat! They need to go after these deliquent taxes.

    @patcism Yeah, the easiest way to remember is that (typically) the A side is the Address side, and then its just clock wise to get the rest of the sides.

    did you watch the video? the fire already spread two city blocks, When should the firemen start fighting it when its burned 12 blocks and approaching the city center???????

  • @theapeman2004
    @theapeman2004 11 лет назад +3

    Yes I did watch the video. They can protect the other structures around it, which is what firefighters usual do. However, I knew a firefighter who was battling an abandon structure fire one night and a brick wall collapsed on him, He and a couple of other firefighters were badly injuried as a result! They were lucky that they weren't killed. That's why I say, let em burn to the damn ground! Your entitled to your opinon. so don't you slam me for mine!!!!

    The biggest fire we've ever fought where I live is a 3rd alarm. We had 2 units from each of the 9 companies in the entire county there with over 100 Firefighters. How many Firefighters/apparatus were at this fire?

    Great work boys, that one looked liked a bitch!! A handful of helicopters with Bambi-buckets would have been nice, but I don't know if they have those type of resources in that region. I've only been on a couple urban fires where the helos came in for water drops, made one helluva difference!! Once again, fantastic work, looks like they managed it great and worked through adversity!!

      GARY HESS There was a footbridge connecting the main warehouse to the office, which spanned over the street, the rest was the wind.

    good video on this working fire. Kind of reminds of Detroit, MI and their bad time with multible fires on the same street, as they call it "Hell Night" and it happens every year. Maybe that is why Detroit is fucked city, with no hope of survival.

    • @GothicaBeauty
      @GothicaBeauty 8 лет назад

      +Digimutant not like the ones they have in the states we don't it's a little flap on the street.

    • @GothicaBeauty
      @GothicaBeauty 8 лет назад

      +Digimutant how am i ignorant when where i live in the north of England that's exactly what we have & the fire brigade trap the water pipes??

    • @GothicaBeauty
      @GothicaBeauty 8 лет назад

      +Digimutant nope i was born & raised in Darlington England, if you look closely on our streets you'll see on the pavements the little square flaps were the fb tap the main water lines which is then fed into a tanker via lines then fed into hoses.
      If it's a small fire they'll use their on board water supply but not on a large structure fire as they have limited capacity for water storage. Plus i have the utmost respect for ALL FD's they do a bloody hard job in horrendous conditions.

    • @bfirefighter3
      @bfirefighter3 8 лет назад +1

      So in other words, you do have hydrants in the UK. You just described to a T what a fire hydrant is. Just because the part you see looks different, doesnt mean its not a hydrant. It gets water from the main, into the fire truck, for use in fire suppression. Doesnt matter what shape, size or color it is, it still serves the same exact purpose.

    • @CymruEmergencyResponder
      @CymruEmergencyResponder 5 лет назад

      Callum Walker our aerials in the U.K. are taller and more versatile. We just don’t have as many of them because we don’t work in ‘companies’. The equipment carried on an Engine, Ladder and Rescue in the USA is all on one vehicle in the U.K, the Rescue Pump Ladder (RPL). We don’t need aerials like they do in the states and we don’t do the dangerous practice of ‘venting’ in the same way, hence we don’t have many line of duty deaths either.
