This was great!! I’ve been wanting to add flush set stones to my work and have been watching several videos to see how various jewelers produce the same setting. The computer and science aspect was extremely helpful in understanding why the metal moves the way it does to art the stone. Understanding the process that is taking place with the material helps me a great deal. Thank you again. New subscriber.
Really great ... You should put a few drops of lube (water will work) on the sharpening plate ...diamond suffers badly ,when on steel ,especially herded ,or tool steel,however you are very correct in your process and thought ... You can even set the stone by hand useing just the burnisher ,no flex shaft needed ... Really great info you gave ,and thank you for your efforts and thoughts ...have a wonderful day ...
Excellent video! Thank you! But what if the stone is softer than a diamond? I’m assuming the burnished will scratch it, so how do I avoid this problem?
I’m a beginning learner in stone setting and I was just curious as to why the stone doesn’t get damaged when applying pressure... with all the sharp edge cuts, I would assume there would be some form of scratches or possible chipping that might happen to the stone when setting and burnishing? Thank you!

I went to the hardware store and told him I was looking for a diamond lapse - what you mentioned in the video Dash their response was they didn’t know what I was talking about. I talked to six different people at Home Depot and got nowhere. Then I looked on Amazon and was a little confused as to exactly what I needed to get. If you could give me some ideas on how to narrow down what to get on Amazon I would greatly appreciate it.
Catherine Franz I’d suggest searching for ‘diamond lap’ in the category ‘DIY & Tools’ on Amazon. (I think he’s referring to ‘laps’ (plural) rather than ‘lapse’).
I am really struggling. I have been trying to flush set CZ stones in brass. I CAN NOT get the metal to burnish and secure the stone. What am I doing wrong? I really need help.

keep praticing I was terrible at first.
This works good when you have a bur that is the same size as the gem stone or the gem will wobble when you burnish.

Excellent, I needed to see how the metal moves. The tool is vertical, but which direction are you pressing? Straight down? Or at an angle?
You push down and out. Not to hard. Think of smearing the metal in a circle

Could you use this technique with a larger, say 7mm, stone if you allowed the table and a significant portion of the crown to sit proud of the metal?

try copper. The brass may be to hard especially if it is hardened for plumbing

Joel - Please dont show people to use a seperating disk with no safety glasses. We have all had them hit us in the face when they shatter.
