Regarding the comments about interior design, just a qucik reminder that this model was presented back in 2010-2011!
Personally, I think it looks absolutely amazing for a 12-13 year old design. VW is one of the best to keep their interiors look fresh even after a decade or more

@marcokrueger3399 I'm not surprised! mk5 and passat b6 are perfect examples of what a long-lasting design means. It is still very much adequate and fresh, considering those are stunning 20 years old interiors.

@@marcokrueger3399 Yeah I do think so too. I personally think that Volkwagens is a polarising company especially here in Germany. You either see a lot of tuners loving their VW or you have the ones that hate them because of the amount of similar locking vehicles.
And I think you also either hate or like VWs if you're looking for specific qualities in a car:
Their interior design ages veeery well I totally agree. Quality itself can be good or bad depending on the model and year. Golf mk4- mk5 times and softtouchplastic early to mid-late 2000's was a phase that is stuck in everyones head here. But then I saw GM vehicles of that time and knew why GM is such an unpopular brand over here (I'm talking specifically about Chevy, Cadillac and GMC.
Their gas engines are either reliable or questionable.. if you got a timing belt you're most likely safe, if you have a timing chain then you will experience problems.. with diesels it's always the same go for a 2.0 TDI if you can and you're a happy man, go for a 3.0 TDI and you have a powerful, awesome engine as long as you don't have a timing chain problem early models suffer specifically. So change the oil regularly and pray because if one of these goes bad that's an expensive job.
Overall fit and finish is good if you're looking at european designed cars Touareg, Tiguan, Golf, older Jettas, Phaeton. But U.S. models like a Passat (NMS) or Atlas do feel a little cheaper in every term.

@@chriskonte1909 You summed that up pretty well!
There will always be fans and always be haters. Most of the not-fans will say VW is boring, etc. and prefer japanese vehicles for expample which often times (e.g. Toyota Yaris or Prius) are ugly af in my opinion. Another argument I have to read is that VWs are soooo unreliable because the workshops are full of them. I mean, no surprise if your market share is above 35% (with all the sub brands). Of course if you have some issues, they're gonna be huge in scale.
My MK5 Golf had the soft touch issues, but only on parts that can easily and rather cheaply be replaced. Doorhandles, lightswitch, radio (wanted to change that anyway) and the switches for the window lift. All in all would be less than 200€ (apart from the radio which I bought off of ebay for 50€), so that's a rather cheap fix. We have another 2009 model which doesn't have any of these issues.
Imo, the MK4 did look old pretty fast but the MK5 interior can hold up pretty well even compared to modern cars.
The timing chains are a real issue (sometimes it's just the chain tensioner), our second car had that at about 160-170.000 km. We got it fixed as soon as it made trouble, but apart from that it's a really solid vehicle, no major issues. I think often times it really comes down to how people treat their car: A neglected vehicle won't last as long, but owners will always be complaining. Expectations are just soo much higher nowadays.
VW also had times with real quality issues. Early 90s, start of the golf MK3, Mr. Lopez tried to cut costs and ruined build quality. Same, but not as much with Herbert Diess who was manager until last year. New management has announced they will improve build quality. Martin Winterkorn was the real master of that.
I think one real strength of VW is safety, like with the suspension design. They don't build boring cars, but they're really safe for everyone to drive, always a little understeer. That's just the best design for mass production vehicles imo.
(Also, if you haven't guessed it already, I'm German, too. Grüße! ;) )

Have always found VW interiors to be much less dated over the years due to their clean and “simple” as you claim to look. Which is why this relatively older car looks so fresh even now. Fun fact: The VW Jetta isn't nearly as popular in Europe than it is in the US. I think there even was a model that was based on an older platform, they just added the design of the Golf MK5 and bigger engines to meet the needs of the Northern American market. The only model that's completely similar in this regard is the VW Jetta Sportswagon, known in Europe as VW Golf Variant.

I've always found it satisfying when I watch the dirt blast away with a pressure washer! Wether it's km a vehicle or cleaning up a dirty bench, sidewalk, etc. Just alesys found it a bit satisfying. But not as satisfying as the end result on a project that was a challenge! Really liking the mix of voice-over and "live" narration. You have said you listen to music while working. Do you still do that and pause it to talk, or are you not playing music as much? Just curious about the process. A new jam session in the new place as Joel suggested would be nice. The lighting os so different.

I really enjoyed your video, the slow shots without music, the sound of the vacuum on the seats, and the way you are explaining things as you move along. Your editing is awesome. The car looks brand new. I think this is the first car I've seen that wasn't filthy inside, except for the abundance of face masks which were funny to me. Truth be told I have some in a Glad bag in my center console.

Claying down carpaint causes scratches and haze. So you usually only do this, if the paint gets a polish afterwards. I guess thats why he uses clay only if really necessary

For a 10 year old car, the interior didn’t look so bad!
Btw I have a question: why do you always clean the exterior first rather then the interior

    • @abdullahzackariah3642
      @abdullahzackariah3642 2 года назад

Because you can get overspray while cleaning the exterior and that can ruin all the hard work on the interior

I think because he sprays the door sides with the door open, and some dirt might get inside. The same with the trunk. I think a better question is: why not?

There are no big emotions, but safe and well built cars which are the goldstandard in western Europe. Now in times of high fuel prices its good to have a car with a good mpg, too.

  • @Kot1026

Those mesh/carpet rear liners are for noise reduction on a budget; instead of putting more sound insulation in the rear of the vehicle, which is very noisy in hatch type cars (since the wheel arches are basically inside the cabin, unlike a sedan) and the carpet liners don't resonate like the plastic ones, therefore they don't transform noise to the vehicle body.
Both my previous and current cars are VAGs but both have plastic liners, and to make them less noisy I did some sound treatment to the arches and liners, both rear and front; that was a part of the upgrade for the sound system in my car.

You seem to have way more success getting Weathertech floor mats clean than I do. I rinsed them, sprayed them down with diluted Simple Green, used my drill brush on them, and rinsed them off, but the mud stains show right back up after it's dry. Any suggestions? I can try using my pressure washer on them in the spring, although it doesn't look like you're blasting them too hard with water before or after the scrubbing.
