@@Reaperguy67 It looks cool but, I never really got into Harry Potter stuff. I was in my 30s when the franchise came out so it wasn't really my thing. When TMNT first came out as a comic, I was working in a comic shop and was immediately hooked on it so there is a lot more nostalgia for me with it.
Tee Lopes is amazing. He crushed it on Sonic Mania, not surprised the music in this is so good. Would love to hear his take on Mega Man or Castlevania.
Mutants in Manhattan is actually one of the games that got me into gaming, if not THE game. This series means so much to me so for this to be so good, and to hear the reviewers having such a blast brought genuine tears to my eyes. I’m so excited to play
@@joshoshea3194 -- No BS. My favorite character was Michaelangelo, second slowest Turtle after Donatello and I had couple of game sessions where I was perfectly fluid. I would know when enemy would start showing on the screen and fling them off the screen. I still remember the point system, 2pts to knockdown tossing including enemy being hit by it and 3 pts for flying them away.
Clearly, this game was made by people who grew up loving turtles. There’s so many references to the tv show, the arcade games, past console games, etc. I usually hate fan-service-y stuff, but this is the right kind of fan service. 😃
If you go to Dotemu's RUclips channel, they have a few videos about making this game. These went back and watched the original series, played the original games in order to get a feel for it. These devs actually cared about the franchise and fans.
It makes me so happy to see all these young gamers loving the turtles. But for us old timers who got to experience this in arcades as kids, this has been a long time coming! I haven't been this excited for a game since we got a rough port of the original arcade game for our NES. THE DAY HAS FINALLY COME!!! COWABUNGA!

Just finished the story mode with "normal" difficulty on the Switch, definitely a very very good game with nostalgic memories coming back. Man, playing the originals back in the early 90s was such a blast. The boss's difficulties are not extremely tough but instead the herds of enemies will give you some serious challenge. I would give the game a 8/10, could be a 9 if the story mode is slightly longer as I would play mostly on single player mode.
This game looks great. I'm so glad the consensus is that it is respectful to the old arcade style games but they balance the levels based on how many players are on screen. 6 players looks chaotic. I've been looking forward to this one for a while now.

The only thing new in the collection will be the ability to take some of them online and play multiplayer with people.
I'm turning 47 this year. TMNT Arcade was one of my favorite games for the original NES. I bought Streets of Rage 4 about a year ago, and I can't stop playing it. This looks like it lives up to the original side scrolling up/down movement game, but with much better graphics, better moves, all while staying true to the classic TMNT storyline. I'm pretty sure I'm getting this for my Switch.
According to eShop, this game was to be released today June 16. I pre-ordered it yesterday June 15th. When I went to start the game a pop up window came up saying that it has to check with the internet if this game can be played yet. It said it couldn't and took me to the eShop where it says that the release date is today June 16th. Has anyone else not been able to play this game yet?

yes, I too am having the same problem as well. The only other difference is I pre-ordered my digital copy 3 days in advance just to wait until 2day to see the same message and not be able to play. I hope they didn't lie to us 😔
It’s up to the dev when they unlocked it. I see this a lot with 3rd party games but Nintendo usually unlocks midnight your time in my experience. Anyway I got it working about an hour ago… so good
@@Dalamartm It's by the business hours now? Every other time I've pre-ordered a game digitally, I've been able to play it at 12AM my local time on the release day except for this time and I live in Norway. I'm finally able to play it now though at 6PM my time. 18 hours later than expected.
I pre-ordered right when it went up lol can't wait to play. The Turtle beat em ups were some of my favorite games growing up. I've probably played through Turtles in Time at least 100 times.
So glad (relieved?) it lives up to the hype. I can't wait to pick this up and if as good as you have described it to be I'll have to grab the Limited Run Games version for sure :) Let's hope the Cowabunga Collection makes a nice addition to the set too!
I always forget how much of an insane deal Xbox gamepass is, I never grew up with the turtles games which makes me unsure if I should buy it but I always thought the game looked gorgeous and the music from Tee Lopes is a major plus The fact that I get to play this on release and not having to sit on the fence thinking if I should go for it makes me very happy
This game continues to look better and better! 9:05 Totally agree with wishing for an arcade release of Shredder's Revenge, whether it's a dedicated cabinet, Arcade1Up machine, or even a catalog release on iiRcade or the like. For now, I'm just excited to see TMNT back to its retro glory!
Already received my "digital" copy. Its a very solid game, with more challenging gameplay thanks to dynamic mechanics and the button layout. Im just waiting a few hours to play 6 players session.
Only comment against the review is that you said Channel 5 instead of 6. Glad to see and hear that the game is as fantastic as I had hoped. I would have been shell-shocked if it wasn’t.

I can see his dialogues during character cut scenes as well as his moveset during battles being absolutely ruthless considering he'd use anything at his disposal to extremely damage his opponents. Making him a truly unpredictable combatant in his own right❕ Could even add April in the mix to assist in the battle against his foes,both physically during matches and verbally during CJ's cut scene dialogues too. #pleasemakeithappenboon🤞🏾 #letsmakeithappennrs🙏🏾
Those issues don’t make me happy about the physical version possibly shipping with those bugs unfixed. It’s a modern problem but one that doesn’t have to exist. Though I’m happy those bugs will at least get fixed in any fashion (like day 1 patch).
Yea, even though these bugs will happen the game will update and take out these bugs pretty quickly. It’d be pretty surprising if they didn’t do anything about some of these lol

7:56 i agreed with most of the review but saying that a game is repetitive just because of the concept isn't really an excuse they could add underwater battling that uses new attacks and riding squids so it's not the concept fault it's just that the devs played it really safe which i might be hating because of other games that did that aka (nsmb series) but there is no shame with that
I am 44 years old. In 1987 when I was 9 years old I had my Atari 2600 console. Then a few years later my nintendo, then my super nintendo and then my sage genesis and turbo graphics console. I love playing TMNT game at the arcade. One of the best games ever!
After all of these years, the original 1987 series of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is still the best. Even the games look SO much better than other iterations of TMNT. I'm so happy that this game exists. I didn't think I'd ever see a TMNT game based on the 1987 series again. I wish someone would make a really good, faithful to the original Masters Of The Universe video game. Every game was either based on the newer shows, or just plain down sucked because of the era and console limitations (like the Atari 2600 version), or wasn't released in the US (like the PS2 version).
(FIXED) I Installed the game on my Switch OLED with 1TB SD Card. Right at the start of the Nintendo or Nickelodeon logo I get a black or white screen. It literally takes a few minutes just to get past the startup of the game. It took me 10 to 15 minutes just to get to the Main Menu. If you pause during gameplay the game freezes and crashes sometimes. After you finish a mission it takes another 10 to 15 minutes to load the cut scene and the game crashes. I reinstalled the game countless times and also moved the game to my internal storage as well with no success. These are major issues I have encountered and I am pissed. Too bad I was very excited to play the game as well. After More Troubleshooting I Figured Out The Issue The Game Has A Bug With The 5GHz Wifi Band.

Agree really awesome game. Fun to play even more so in co op. Lots of nods to the original arcade game and cartoon. Controls I would say are decent not as tight as SOR4 but you can do combos. What isn’t so great is interaction with the environment. The pot holes even in your videos are not consistent. So when you thought you would fall in one you don’t. This is especially true if your in a middle of a combo and your character magical floats over the pot hole instead of just falling in. This is a minor flaw. Overall I have been having fun from day 1 and definitely worth buying
Good game, but I’ve experienced what appears to be a game breaking bug on level 8. Playing as Leonardo, part way through the level, no more enemies appear, and nothing happens. Just keep flying through the air doing nothing. 😢
I’ve never really been a fan of TMNT media. But this game looks great and looks like so much fun. A bright, smooth, turtles beat ‘em up! Might have to pick this up.
I forgot this was coming to Game Pass. Nice! On another note: Shouldn't the bugs you mentioned affect the review score? Giving a 9/10 because patches might eventually fix the bugs sounds insincere.
I am getting my brother in law to play this with me because he loves old school beat em ups like I do. Gamepass first but I'll probably buy it on Switch at some point
Great review. I preordered the digital version on Switch and I will also buy the physical Switch version as a collectable. Loved the old TMNT arcade games on the NES/SNES and OG gameboy. The 1987 cartoon was cool back in the day. Loved the first live action movies as well as a kid. Looking forward to finally play this game tomorrow with my kids. I hope the devs will add dlc and new game modes. Would also be cool to play as Shredder as a playable dlc/ingame unlocked character.
Is there a/an?: 1. “Inside a moving train” level, like Final Fight ? 2. Turtle-Van chase/driving level ? 3. Levels which progress right to left, like some in “Sengoku 3” ?
Pure nostalgia done right. Amazing that they got a number of original voice actors from the cartoon. Going to get my physical copy from Limited Run Games and can't wait for the Cowabunga Collection release as well.
I just never realized Yakko Warner was in the original cartoon, lol. I know he (rob paulsen) has done a lot of stuff, but now Yakko is all I can hear :P
The only complaint I have just from looking at it is that there aren't enough playable characters. I mean like Smash Brothers level amount. Theres so many in the back catalogue to choose from and it would give it amazing replay value and its just something that you don't see in side scrolling beat em ups so I feel it's a missed opportunity. Although I'll still be buying this one on payday 🙂👍
Rising Tackle? Terry Bogard? And April O Neil channels a number of famous female fighting game characters. The standard combo, often shown here, is kind of associated with Karin Kanzuki of Street Fighter fame. I know that initial punch into forward hand thrust, with the other hand before smacking them with the sideways elbow anywhere. It’s like they wanted to get so close but just avoids using the exact animation.
Rumor has it that they add Usagi Yojimbo as an added character later. Really hoping an Endless Survival mode like the one in Streets of Rage 4 is added. That would really add to the replay value.
well, i think, if they update it with a "arcade coin mode", with a button to insert coins, would be possible to create a cabinet with a cheap pc inside....it would generate a lot of cash
the "super cute anime" style is not quite my thing... and I agree, some kind of retro style filtering would be nice. I was more excited about the TMNT Cowabunga collection... sounds like that thing needs patching... no difficulty settings for arcade games, laggy netcode, some games lack online play that ought to have it, and redone vocal music :(
9:05 Okay I'm REALLY glad I'm not the only one thinking this. I played the original arcade games and the first thing I thought when I started playing Shredder's Revenge earlier today is, "They better make this into a quarter sucker and stick one in every single Dave & Buster's on the planet." LOL.
While in the Mirage comic books, the mutagen _is_ a waste byproduct from the utroms; in the classic cartoon, the mutagen is very much a deliberate product meant to do what it does; so, _not_ "toxic waste".
Can't wait.. I pre-order it, checked this morning at 7am 6/16 and still not playable on the switch haha.... I'll have it on Game Pass as well, but since Turtles Arcade and turtles in time, manhattan project etc were games I love and grew up playing I had to get this on the switch for handhald mode as well...... Excited!! Especially because of the positive reviews!
How is the the general performance of the switch version? Can I expect to have the same experience at least on a 1080p screen like the other versions for stronger hardware?
I am experiencing this as well. If you wait a few minutes it will start, but it will be very buggy. If you pause the game sometimes it will freeze and crash. It also freezes at the Nickelodeon logo as well. Also if you finish a level the game will crash after the cut scene. The Game is broken for me. If You Find A Fix Let Me Know.
Also the new title movie remake of the 80s cartoon is superb and all the artists performing the music too, they really couldn't have done anymore without bringing James Avery back from the dead, RIP Uncle Phil.

I think all I needed to hear was that it was made by the developers of Scott Pilgrim VS The World: The Game and has music by Tee Lopes. This game is a must-buy for me and might very well be my favorite beat-em-up in the genre.
This was the best TMNT game EVER, which truly says a lot for certain! Though the 2017 arcade game based off of the 2012 show was very good I.M.O. too. On a quick side note, ever since the most recent update, I can't seem to be able to restore the power bar via doing the taunt, and is there a way to get that back someway, somehow also?

For everyone that has this on the OLED Switch i highly suggest you go into the Switch's settings and change the video settings from Vivid to Standard. the difference is night and day. Vivid just looks way too dark and saturated

Feels like 30 years later we can say we finally got the a true sequel to turtles in time and hyperstone for genesis so this will be tmnt 6!

He was born to be in this franchise,EVERYTHING about him personifies badassery💯
From his unhinged personality to his motivations for practicing vigilantism. I can see his dialogues during character cut scenes as well as his moveset during battles being absolutely ruthless considering he'd use anything at his disposal to extremely damage his opponents. Making him a truly unpredictable combatant in his own right❕ Could even add April in the mix to assist in the battle against his foes,both physically during matches and verbally during CJ's cut scene dialogues too.

Those issues don’t make me happy about the physical version possibly shipping with those bugs unfixed. It’s a modern problem but one that doesn’t have to exist. Though I’m happy those bugs will at least get fixed in any fashion (like day 1 patch).
Yea, even though these bugs will happen the game will update and take out these bugs pretty quickly. It’d be pretty surprising if they didn’t do anything about some of these lol

7:56 i agreed with most of the review but saying that a game is repetitive just because of the concept isn't really an excuse they could add underwater battling that uses new attacks and riding squids so it's not the concept fault it's just that the devs played it really safe which i might be hating because of other games that did that aka (nsmb series) but there is no shame with that
I am 44 years old. In 1987 when I was 9 years old I had my Atari 2600 console. Then a few years later my nintendo, then my super nintendo and then my sage genesis and turbo graphics console. I love playing TMNT game at the arcade. One of the best games ever!

After all of these years, the original 1987 series of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is still the best. Even the games look SO much better than other iterations of TMNT. I'm so happy that this game exists. I didn't think I'd ever see a TMNT game based on the 1987 series again.
I wish someone would make a really good, faithful to the original Masters Of The Universe video game. Every game was either based on the newer shows, or just plain down sucked because of the era and console limitations (like the Atari 2600 version), or wasn't released in the US (like the PS2 version).
Yeah. I've played the later games, and have watched the other shows. Nope. '87 TMNT is still the best.
(FIXED) I Installed the game on my Switch OLED with 1TB SD Card. Right at the start of the Nintendo or Nickelodeon logo I get a black or white screen. It literally takes a few minutes just to get past the startup of the game. It took me 10 to 15 minutes just to get to the Main Menu. If you pause during gameplay the game freezes and crashes sometimes. After you finish a mission it takes another 10 to 15 minutes to load the cut scene and the game crashes. I reinstalled the game countless times and also moved the game to my internal storage as well with no success. These are major issues I have encountered and I am pissed. Too bad I was very excited to play the game as well. After More Troubleshooting I Figured Out The Issue The Game Has A Bug With The 5GHz Wifi Band.

Agree really awesome game. Fun to play even more so in co op. Lots of nods to the original arcade game and cartoon. Controls I would say are decent not as tight as SOR4 but you can do combos. What isn’t so great is interaction with the environment. The pot holes even in your videos are not consistent. So when you thought you would fall in one you don’t. This is especially true if your in a middle of a combo and your character magical floats over the pot hole instead of just falling in. This is a minor flaw. Overall I have been having fun from day 1 and definitely worth buying

Good game, but I’ve experienced what appears to be a game breaking bug on level 8. Playing as Leonardo, part way through the level, no more enemies appear, and nothing happens. Just keep flying through the air doing nothing. 😢
Just finished my first playthrough with Michelangelo...an absolute joy from start to finish and on my game of the year list...yes..its that good

I’ve never really been a fan of TMNT media. But this game looks great and looks like so much fun. A bright, smooth, turtles beat ‘em up! Might have to pick this up.

Great review. I preordered the digital version on Switch and I will also buy the physical Switch version as a collectable. Loved the old TMNT arcade games on the NES/SNES and OG gameboy. The 1987 cartoon was cool back in the day. Loved the first live action movies as well as a kid. Looking forward to finally play this game tomorrow with my kids. I hope the devs will add dlc and new game modes. Would also be cool to play as Shredder as a playable dlc/ingame unlocked character.

Pure nostalgia done right. Amazing that they got a number of original voice actors from the cartoon. Going to get my physical copy from Limited Run Games and can't wait for the Cowabunga Collection release as well.
I just never realized Yakko Warner was in the original cartoon, lol. I know he (rob paulsen) has done a lot of stuff, but now Yakko is all I can hear :P
The only complaint I have just from looking at it is that there aren't enough playable characters. I mean like Smash Brothers level amount. Theres so many in the back catalogue to choose from and it would give it amazing replay value and its just something that you don't see in side scrolling beat em ups so I feel it's a missed opportunity. Although I'll still be buying this one on payday 🙂👍

The standard combo, often shown here, is kind of associated with Karin Kanzuki of Street Fighter fame. I know that initial punch into forward hand thrust, with the other hand before smacking them with the sideways elbow anywhere. It’s like they wanted to get so close but just avoids using the exact animation.
Rumor has it that they add Usagi Yojimbo as an added character later. Really hoping an Endless Survival mode like the one in Streets of Rage 4 is added. That would really add to the replay value.
Probably the most fun I have had with a game in awhile. Brings back wonderful memories of playing the old games as a kid.

well, i think, if they update it with a "arcade coin mode", with a button to insert coins, would be possible to create a cabinet with a cheap pc inside....it would generate a lot of cash
the "super cute anime" style is not quite my thing... and I agree, some kind of retro style filtering would be nice. I was more excited about the TMNT Cowabunga collection... sounds like that thing needs patching... no difficulty settings for arcade games, laggy netcode, some games lack online play that ought to have it, and redone vocal music :(
There are arcades that have cabinets running Steam on PCs internally. No particular reason they couldn't do something like that for this game.
9:05 Okay I'm REALLY glad I'm not the only one thinking this. I played the original arcade games and the first thing I thought when I started playing Shredder's Revenge earlier today is, "They better make this into a quarter sucker and stick one in every single Dave & Buster's on the planet." LOL.

While in the Mirage comic books, the mutagen _is_ a waste byproduct from the utroms; in the classic cartoon, the mutagen is very much a deliberate product meant to do what it does; so, _not_ "toxic waste".
Can't wait.. I pre-order it, checked this morning at 7am 6/16 and still not playable on the switch haha.... I'll have it on Game Pass as well, but since Turtles Arcade and turtles in time, manhattan project etc were games I love and grew up playing I had to get this on the switch for handhald mode as well...... Excited!! Especially because of the positive reviews!
How is the the general performance of the switch version? Can I expect to have the same experience at least on a 1080p screen like the other versions for stronger hardware?

I am experiencing this as well. If you wait a few minutes it will start, but it will be very buggy. If you pause the game sometimes it will freeze and crash. It also freezes at the Nickelodeon logo as well. Also if you finish a level the game will crash after the cut scene. The Game is broken for me. If You Find A Fix Let Me Know.

I think all I needed to hear was that it was made by the developers of Scott Pilgrim VS The World: The Game and has music by Tee Lopes. This game is a must-buy for me and might very well be my favorite beat-em-up in the genre.

This was the best TMNT game EVER, which truly says a lot for certain! Though the 2017 arcade game based off of the 2012 show was very good I.M.O. too. On a quick side note, ever since the most recent update, I can't seem to be able to restore the power bar via doing the taunt, and is there a way to get that back someway, somehow also?

For everyone that has this on the OLED Switch i highly suggest you go into the Switch's settings and change the video settings from Vivid to Standard. the difference is night and day. Vivid just looks way too dark and saturated
