    Shawn Michaels has a lot of respect for Bret Hart. In his goodbye speech to the WWE fans on the Raw following his final match at WrestleMania 26 Shawn thanked the fans, his parents, his coworkers, etc but he only thanked three people specifically by name. Those three people were Vince McMahon, Triple H, and Bret Hart.

      Very true. Tear trickling down his cheek as he firmly stated that he wants to thank Bret and how he felt bad about his actions in the ‘90s and his gratitude that Bret believed he had finally changed. 100% mutual respect, even with all that massive baggage.
      Bret was also there to shake his hand and give him words of support after his “final match” with Undertaker.
      The real issue in this entire saga, truth be told, was the ugly and heartless nature of the business itself. That latter part hasn’t really changed.

    I notice that Bret often uses the word "safe" when talking about his matches and/or who he wrestled with. That gave me the impression of his ensuring that he wouldn't purposely hurt his opponent in a match. He's also used the word to describe his opponent's wrestling approach. I loved what Bret said about wrestling being about trust and respect--if those are lacking, how do you know that you're safe? I'm glad that Bret learned from his experience of forgiving Shawn and vice versa--he's inspired me to realize that it's best to let go of the past and move on. Thanks for this upload.

    • @AskMeK2
      @AskMeK2 Год назад +13

      Bret used the word “safe” because he took pride being a great technical wrestler/representing his family, and not harming others. Unfortunately, his career was cut short due to Goldberg’s carelessness/recklessness, refusing to acknowledge that he ended Bret’s career and livelihood. Recently, Goldberg apologized about the accident. But, it wasn’t genuine because he said that if he wanted to hurt Bret, he wouldn’t get up. Well, if Goldberg thought that he was really so tough, he should’ve gone to UFC like Brock, Bobby L, etc. Yes, his body looks great, but he couldn’t last 10mins in a match, which is why the Undertaker was so upset with him. Bottomline, wrestlers have to trust each other because their careers/lives are at stake. If Bret wanted to hurt muscle head, he definitely could’ve used some of his dad’s old holds. As for Shawn, like HHH, he knew who to kiss up to, which is why he’s still working/earning millions. Bret wanted his performance to speak for itself and didn’t play the suck up game. But, life is more than chasing a dollar. Bret is happily married and enjoying his retirement. Once Undertaker retired, Mark finally gets to recall stories and enjoy his family life.

    • @glamgal7106
      @glamgal7106 Год назад +7

      @@AskMeK2 I’m inclined to agree with you about Goldberg not being genuine about his apology to Bret. Not long ago, I saw this video that featured the top 10 wrestlers who were considered the most difficult to work with. Shawn Michaels was listed at #3 and Goldberg at #2. Surprise surprise? Wrestlers mentioned that Goldberg didn’t even know about the basics of wrestling yet he knew how to hurt them. Even if he didn’t come to the ring planning on ending Bret’s career, Goldberg’s approach was definitely reckless and unsafe. Wrestlers take their chances when they get in the ring so it’s understandable why safety is important.

      It all happened because all sides refused to do the job and were petty. Brett Refused to do the job he was told to do over personal feelings. He was also far from a professional. And Shawn was a druggie that held power because of his backstage politicking, the Cliq.

It means top earnings, it means having more input, it means being at the top of the pecking order, and EVERYONE wants that, and NOBODY wants to give it up. Why do you think Hogan rarely lost to a clean pinfall? While doing the job once in a while is a requirement, the higher you get in the business, the more sense it has to make in the mind of that wrestler, or there might be some pushback. That's why when guys get to the position Bret and Shawn were in, it's usually in their contract that they get so much say in the creative aspect of their storylines and matches. Bret and Shawn were neck and neck at the time, trying to be the main man. In each of their heads the only one standing in the way of that top position was the other. It wasn't necessarily about "winning" or the title; it was about what those things symbolized: being at the top. Just like any job that's highly competitive and there's only one promotion and two strong candidates. Bret and Shawn's rivalry had nothing to do with sportsmanship. It was political.

    Bret's IQ was on another level to the wrestlers at the time. The types of moves and the way he told the story using his body elevated the entire industry. If you watch Wrestling in the 80's, it was 95% just kicking, punching, grappling and long over drawn holds. Bret only used those as setups for bigger moves and introduced so many new ideas in matches. He was my favourite Wrestler as a kid by far and gave me tremendous inspiration. Bret had signed a 20 year contract with the WWF, but Vince is the one who went to Bret and broke their contract and said 'I can't afford you.'. Even after Bret offered to take a big pay cut to stay in the WWF, Vince told him no. Bret was never leaving WWF because of money, he was basically being kicked out.
      And I would agree with you if Survivor Series was his last night in the company...but it wasn't. He still had a whole month left on his contract, and Bischoff was even willing to give Bret extra time to tie up any loose ends. Meaning there was still plenty of time to get the belt off him. And again, the original plan, that Vince agreed to, was for Bret to vacate the belt the next night on Raw.
      Also if your problem is with Bret not willing to drop the belt to one guy in his whole career, then keep that same energy across the board. Bret also continued to wrestle for almost two months following the concussion from Goldberg, so who knows if the constant punishment after a major injury like that went farther toward causing all of Bret's future medical problems. Bret needs to take his own advice and do that for Goldberg.

      Goldberg kicked him in the head and caused Bret to not only have to end his a career. He also suffered a stroke. I don't remember how long after that happened. But the cause of the stroke was the result of Goldberg kicking him in the head. What Shawn did was scummy but what Goldberg did was worse.

    It took a lot of strength and will power for Brett to get through that without bitching and blaming. Good for him

      Playgirl was created for women. It was the female version of Playboy. Its articles and stories were written for hetero women. I can see where gay men looked at it for the pictures, but it was geared towards the ladies. 🙂

    Unforgiveness only makes us sick. It's not about having to agree with someone who hurt you. It's about letting go of the burdens that does

    So Hitman threw HBK an olive branch and HBK spat in his face. Bret had every right to be pissed and not want to drop the belt to him.

    I adore and respect Bret Hart. He is a true gentleman, a 100% class act. His reputation among his fellow wrestlers is one of true admiration and respect. He and his baby brother Owen are rated in the Top 20 of the greatest WWE GOATs. Both men and brothers are well deserved of this class ranking. God bless Bret and Owen's families.

    As much as I appreciate The Hitman, he needs to stop being so harsh towards Bill Goldberg, it’s not like he would deliberately go out to hurt someone. As for Goldberg vs Undertaker, he probably wasn’t getting much help there. Fans won’t let the old timers keep it simple. Also The Hitman needs to stop it with Eric Bischoff. Eric has been forthcoming with what he has handled badly creatively and as a manager. Let it go. If The Hitman can make peace with Vince and HBK he surely can do so with WCW people. They were outstanding when his brother passed, unlike WWE. That was far more unforgivable. Also I think 25 years is enough of the Screwjob. It’s been done to death, and it’s not positive.
