The extension switch is to turn on and off the modulation independently. Without the extension switch, you can assign the modulation to come on/off automatically when you hut the reverb footswitch or when you hit the delay footswitch. I have this pedal and I have the modulation come on when I kick the reverb on, as I only use delay for leads. It's a great pedal
