Khalid Henry I agree with those picks along with two villain songs from The Great Mouse Detective both are sung brilliantly by Vincent Price The World’s Greatest Criminal Mind and Goodbye So Soon!
Khalid Henry, have you listened to the metal version of Hellfire?? It's really good. It's not sceamo or anything like that. The Jonathan Young version I think is the best version
I love how Ursula slips up just for a second and gets annoyed when Ariel tries to question how she can get Eric to fall in love with her if she can't talk to him before catching herself and going back into saleswoman mode.
This is why Ursula is one of the greatest Disney villians. She is a master manipulator. While yes, she lied about not being evil anymore, she was pretty much upfront about everything else. She let Ariel know what would happen if she ran out of time. She just kept pushing the positives more. Ariel was fully aware of what the entire deal entailed. It was her choice to sign. It's funny how the scene is pretty much the exact opposite in the original story. In that the sea witch keeps telling the mermaid that this is a bad deal and gives her so many opportunities to leave until she is forced to acquiesce and make her human because she won't listen.
Notice how Ursula alternates between saying something true and telling a lie? "I admit that in the past I've been a nasty..." true. "But you'll find that nowadays, I've mended all my ways..." a lie. "And I fortunately know a little magic..." true. "...I use it on behalf of the miserable..." a lie. And so on.
Desperate times calls for desperate measures, and Ursula always made sure that if they had something worth her time, they’d always seek her out in their time of desperation.
...it’s because at the basis of each wish Ursula “grants”, they’re all freaking shallow. (Hahh...) The one mermaid wants to be “thinner” vs owning what she has (which, considering Ursula’s confidence with her own plus-sized figure is pretty ironic). The skinny, derpy-looking guy “wants to get a girl” and blames it on his looks as well...when, that’s really not how it works. And the irony being, both end up together in the illustration-either they COULD’VE been happy together unaltered, OR they were BOTH going “outside their league” and only lusted after the other/essentially living a lie and WOULDN’T STAY happy Aaaaand, then there’s Ariel, stalking a random guy and “convinced” she’s “in WUV” with him...after only seeing “he’s handsome!” and “forbidden!”-she likes the IDEA of him, but literally knows NOTHING about him! In short? The people Ursula specifically preys after are all specifically wanting to MAKE people “fall in love”/“buy their love” with them...which, That Ain’t Love. Like NOT Even A Little. NOPE!!!!! Triton isn’t going to get any Father of the Year awards, and it in No WAY excused Ursula’s actions, but... I really have no sympathy for any of them. And “naive teen” or not, Ariel never bothered to actually THINK, just kinda expected everyone to either go along with what she wanted OR bail her out...and kinda came close to destroying the world in the process. (Eric liking her back is besides the point. It doesn’t end that way, and he’s as bad as she is.) ...why is this movie considered “positive” again???
@@anonymousfellow8879 I loved ariel when I was younger but looking back it was kind of shirt of her to miss her dad's big celebration. It looked like everyone hard gone to a lot of work to make it happen and she just ruined it to play around. She literally sold her school for a man she never spoke to knows nothing about oh and hunts and sells her subject as the main income of his people. But for Disney at least her and Eric actually got to send together before getting married
To be fair to ursula she never really went against the deal She never said she wouldn't interfere. She did turn ariel into a human as asked. Ursula is no worse or even maybe better than the average stereotypical used car salesman.
While it's true that Ursula never promised Ariel that she wouldn't interfere she offered that contract to Ariel hoping that she will fail to receive true love's kiss from Prince Eric. Her main motive was to simply use Ariel to get to King Triton.
It exists so much business people that will interfere to turn around a contract to their advantage. Just watch... half TV series about a certain business (lawyer, music industry, restaurant, etc.). I am sure that most of our capitalist heroes have done it (and I bet the present USA president too). It is honest? No. Is it a feature of a hero? No... Maybe for an anti-hero... But is it evil?... Not sure...
Another thing that was chilling to me was how when Ariel turned into a human, Ariel didnt know how to swim and if flounder and Sebastian werent there, she would have drowned.
This makes me think that maybe she planned it differently than what was shown. She would turn Ariel into a human, Ariel would drown, the tei would probably go to Ursula and she would manipulate him into making a contract with her, or impersonate Ariel the same way she did with Vanessa. But when Ariel didn't drown, she was like, "Oh, that didn't work... Well, plan B."
I never realized how much value this song truly had on this story, I knew the moment was pivotal but never noticed all this. I enjoyed this video and hope to see more like it. As usual, it was well done and very interesting.
I'm glad I could provide some new information and some different perspectives on the scene. That's really my goal for the channel is to enhance your experience when watching Disney movies! Thanks for watching!
I think the idea was to make Aerial uncomfortable so she'd be less decisive, so she'd be less focused. This was cool btw, too many songs to analyse... the best ones would be ones that say a lot about the character, for example in 'how far I'll go', we see both Moana's doubts and determination, her conflicting thoughts, and even learn a bit more about Pua (that how you spell it?) while in a song like 'mother knows best', we see just how manipulative Gothel is, her control covered by her so-called care and concern, while we see Rapunzel try to fight back against the lyrics but unable to, showing both her determination and vulnerabilities.
In addition to making Ariel "comfortable enough", Ursula knows that making a target scared pressures him or her to make decisions rashly and without thinking. The idea is that the more scared you are, the more likely you are to make a bad decision just to get out the situation making you uncomfortable. Ursula does a good job of balancing both fear and trust to manipulate Ariel.
I'll say it again: "Poor Unfortunate Souls" is basically the greatest high-pressure sales pitch of all time. And it was delivered to a naive, vulnerable teenager whose father had just destroyed her belongings. Ariel didn't stand a chance. RIP Pat Carroll, and thank you for bringing such a brilliant villain to life.
I love this new series! It's always really entertaining to analize the meanings behind a song's lyrics :) I suggest either "Hellfire" or "Mother Knows Best" for the next breakdown :)

How bout do a video on Morgana's cut song from little mermaid 2? It is a shame Ariel couldn't stop Melody from making the same mistakes she did ,she could've though if she had just explained the truth to her .
I reckon that, since Aerial didn't know Melody was visiting the sea, she just thought "you can't go there" was enough... when Aerial finally had a chance to try and explain, Melody was so angry she couldn't. As for why she didn't just tell her the truth... well, would Melody believe her? If I were Melody, I would have kept asking why until I got a response, but I either would not have believed her, or would have wanted to visit the sea even more.
As always, great video! many fans get angry with Ariel for behaving "selfishly" but she was already bored and maybe a little depressed before meeting Eric. Out of all Disney villains, Ursula is a good representation of Satan, she is him, while Maleficent may be a loyal demon-she's the mistress. I know how this sounds but disney has used Christianity
When Ursulla says "hold your tongue" she throws a tongue in the potion. This is a reference to the original story where the sea witch needs the mermaid's tongue to make the spell work.

The little mermaid is my favourite Disney movie, Ursula is my favourite Disney villain and not going to lie Poor unfortunate souls is my favourite villain song and my favourite part of the movie 😁
Wait Isaac, so you're doing Disney songs breakdown Videos now? That sounds interesting I never had anyone do this kind of stuff, thank you so much for analyzing one of the disney songs. You did a great job with your first song analysis. P.S. - if you're going to make another Disney song breakdown, can you please analyze the song "you're Welcome" from Moana? I really love this song more than any other Disney songs.🤩🐚🐷🐓🛶
Yeah I want to include these videos into the line up at times! I thought it would be a fun different type of series. Yes! "You're Welcome is such a fun song! Thanks for watching!
I love the songs of Disney, and this series seems like a lot of fun. My song suggestion is "Prince Ali" a back to back contrasting the original version when Alladin is paraded through the streets of Agrabah and the revised version when Jafar with the power from his 2nd wish reveals who Prince Ali really is. Maybe convention is you only do one song, but the two versions contrast so well off of each other and the reprised one is kind of short to be in a video on it's own.
Can you do more of this? I love Disney songs broken down like this. I absolutely love that you did my favorite villain song first! Please do trust in me, be prepared, hellfire, or maybe the bells of Notre dame
I love how not only do you breakdown and explore the characters, origins, backstorys, and theories of movies and TV shows ect...but your diving in to the music of the movies and TV shows this is awsome.you are definitely a pioneer of channels like this.thank you for you hard work and dedication in making your videos for us Disney nerds🤓.me and my 5 kids LOVE you channel 😍🤓👾🧜♀️🧜♂️
I loved this! Please continue to do these. Disney songs explain so much of the characters dreams, backgrounds and intentions but also reveals so much story plot. For example just around the riverbed and savages pt 2 (both) from Pocahontas, or heavens light/hell’s fire and god help the outcasts from hunchback are amazing examples of Disney songs for analyzing, I think.
I'm happy you liked it! And more will definitely be coming! Great choices. I feel like the darkest songs are going to be super interesting to look at! Thanks for watching!
So many songs to choose from! I really like this idea! You should definitely do Be Prepared from Lion King, I'll Make a Man Out of You from Mulan, You Will Be a King from Lion King II, and Mother Knows Best from Tangled.
Ursula was my 👑 Queen. In history, the witch is treated like a pariah. Even though they are probably herbalist and in tuned with nature. They have innate abilites and knowledges. But those that judged them still go to their banished 🏡 for taboo stuff. Like abortions at young ages because thats proof their not virgins. And also attracting Titled men and women, etc Although astranged, people still (Disrespectfuly) ask for help and make payment for her services. Ursula was apparently apart of the kingdom but merpeople estranged her to live alone. So i can understand why she did what she did and her hatred. Merpeople treated her differently so she benefits from them and take advantage of the merpeople by making deals. But of course, if you can't do the deal, then boohoo. You shouldn't have come here knowing better. Payment is due. Whatcha expect from a person who KNOWS shes not respected by them. Bohoo merpeoplr. Handshake the devil, get what you signed for
WOW ISAAC, YOUR FIRST MUSIC ANALOGY IS A FLIPPIN HUGE SUCCESS, I MEAN IT, THIS IS IMPRESSIVE, DUDE!!!! Also; I think it would be nice if you analyzed circle of life from the lion king or great spirits from brother bear.
In the original version mermaids use their voices to lure men to their deaths and Ursula removed Ariel's voice to make sure that she couldn't use it to trick/lure the prince into loving her
In a deleted version of the song, Ursula even gaslights Ariel. Ariel says that Ursula tried to usurp King Triton, and Ursula dismissed it as “an exaggeration” by Triton.
If you notice Ursula is warning Ariel. She gave her a choice and knew Ariel wasn't very smart. She never forced her. Damn. Ariel never left her lair. This is why I like Belle more seeing as she has a brain.
I loved this breakdown. The songs even more interesting knowing Ursula is suposed to be Ariels aunt. They cut that part from the movie but readded it to the Broadway musical.
I like your videos. It’s amazing how you can take notice of these subtle details and “hints”. It’s definitely informative, entertaining, and thought-provoking..
Oh Ariel.... If you want some The Little Mermaid videos I have you covered. Here's a playlist of 9 videos! ruclips.net/video/Yu2HrWLlrrY/видео.html Thanks for watching!
My one nitpick about this song is the line "if you want to cross a bridge, my sweet, you've got to pay the toll." Why would the concept of a toll bridge exist on the ocean floor? I'm sure there are some bridges in Atlantica, but a TOLL bridge only works because people who need to cross HAVE to use the bridge. If everyone could just swim around the bridge anyway, enforcing a toll would be impossible.
As much credit as Ursula is given, you gotta remember King Triton. There's no way she would have succeeded without his being such a horrible parent. I'd be desperate to get the heck away from him too.
Yes Triton reacted in a bad way. A horrible parent. Absolutely not. Ariel obviously has a history of being rebellious and not a rule follower. Or just very distractible, has no sense of time, and forgettable. Thus my theory she may have ADD. Missing a concert that you were supposed to be the featured singer in front of your 👑 fathers subjects is a legitimate reason to be upset. His biggest rule is no contact with the humans. Which given the way humans fish and the cultural and physical separation between the 2 species is quite understandable. When you bring in her mothers death from the 3rd movie then there would be a more emotional connection to his human hatred. He views interactions with the humans as death. He does not want his youngest daughter to die. She doesn't understand his fear. He is desperate and at his wits end. He's a single father with an ocean to rule. He is lost and constantly questions whether he has done the right thing. He shows over again that he deeply cares for her. If your child is addicted to what you see as a deadly drug do you keep enabling that addiction or do Everything you possibly can to break that addiction. It is clear she has been pushing the human interaction thing for awhile. "You went to the surface again didn't you!?! Didn't you!?!" If one of my kids started going around a dangerous gang who was known to get its members or the people around them killed I would feel pretty desperate to protect them. Her declaring her love for a human is beyond any horrible thing he could think of in reference to humans. He sees them as mindless, soulless harpoon wielding fish eaters. She is playing with fire. I think it is shown that they do have a loving relationship. They have unfortunately hit a rough period during her teenage years. These things do happen. Their situation is extreme though which makes the story more exciting. Triton witnessing Eric and Ariel fighting for and protecting one another when he is at his weakest and has failed to protect her makes him reconsider his hatred. That is a pretty huge amount of growth for anyone. He wants his daughter to be happy. The loving look on his face before he changed her and the sorrow at the thought of missing her is heart breaking. But her happiness is more important to him. Even if that means sending her into a world he still must fear. And yes this doesn't mean he will never see her but whenever a child moves out into the world it is hard on the parent and you don't see your children as much as they build their own lives. The love they both display in the last scene brings tears to my eyes and makes my heart hurt every time. The respect Triton and Eric have gained for one another is also very touching.
This was a great new addition to your Discovering Disney episodes! I'd love for you to analyze Go The Distance or I Won't Say I'm In Love. Hercules is one of my favorites and these two songs are so well done. Great work, as always!
This was an incredible analysis! I love it! Definitely do more! If you want to bridge to Pixar, maybe the music in Walle? That movie has so little dialogue that the music really picks up the communication to the audience about how the characters feel!
I love this kind of video! I love listening to Disney music as I’m walking home and more than once I actually listen to the lyrics and realize what a phrase or two means. So definitely would want to see more of these kinds of videos
This is such a great idea for a series! So insightful and makes you appreciate how much thought was put into making these masterpieces! I would love to learn more about "I'll Make a Man out of You" and understand the significance of the river, typhoon, fire, and moon. (The 4 elements?)
Ursula fans: She’s a strong independent woman that lives how she wants and stands against the status quo of being in a society that rejects her uniqueness. The real Ursula: forces the independent Ariel into the silent, passive woman role because that’s expected of what’s on the surface as well as exploit her.
I absolutely loved this video! I would also love to see your analysis on Reflection & I won't say I'm in love, these songs have always been my top faves 😊
I have to say, I didn't actually think there would be much to say about his song. However, your analysis has truly blown me away. It's amazing how Disney portrays both the villan and the victim, thank you for making this, it's opened my mind!!!! Btw this is my favourite villain song EVER AGAIN THANK YOU 💕💕💕
I mean...This was middle ages so Ursula isn't exactly wrong there. Eh if I have to be one I'll take Ursula hands down. Just little less arrogant so I can keep winning. Seriously one of the best villians Disney ever created.
"I'll Make A Man Out of You" would be interesting to see done. Also, I would like to see "Hellfire" compared and contrasted with "Heaven's Light", since those to songs are so similar but completely different.
Nice video anyliysis because not only is it my favorite scene in the movie. But, also one of the complaints that people bring up about Ariel is that she sold her soul to the devil for a man (a complaint that has been around since the 2000s, like the Belle Stockholm syndrome critisim)

RIP Pat Carroll.
I always knew what Ursula was doing to Ariel but, never understood the song. But I do now. Interesting video, Isaac.
Ursula is by far my all time favorite Disney character.
More villain songs, please! "Be Prepared!" and "HellFire" just for starters!
This is my favorite Disney song EVER!
Oh I'm so glad I could talk about it then!! Thanks for watching!
RIP to the sweet Ursula.
Ariel: Is that waterproof?
Me: no
Ariel: ah, well you better put away your technology and pick up a jellyfish
Handshake the devil, get what you signed for
Yaaaaaassss finally someone is actually knowledgeable as someone who practices witchcraft this makes me extremely happy and this just made my day
@@jamesmckinney3372 Same. Same. I felt bad for her. Yeah she did the some stuff. But it was a failed plot to get one over Tritan
@@jamesmckinney3372 Im glad my comment made your day. It actually put a smile on my face. Because this side of history people neglect to mention.
@@TK_Danes I totally get that 😊I hope you have a wonderful day or night depending on your time zone
Trueeee, Ursula is an icon.
This is a great video. One of my favorite scenes in the movie.
As a baby/kid whenever I heard this song, I felt the exact same way Ariel did
So glad you picked this song! It’s my favorite song from my favorite childhood Disney movie!
I loved this breakdown. The songs even more interesting knowing Ursula is suposed to be Ariels aunt. They cut that part from the movie but readded it to the Broadway musical.
Ursula is a fantastic marvelous boss.
I like your videos. It’s amazing how you can take notice of these subtle details and “hints”. It’s definitely informative, entertaining, and thought-provoking..
I like your idea of focusing on more music. They are such an important part of Disney films. Thanks for another super video, Isaac. Love the shirt!
Happy you enjoyed it!! I think it will be a fun change of pace sometimes to analyze some Disney songs. Thanks for watching!
About damn time you did a video about The Little Mermaid! I've been waiting a very LOOONNG time for this moment!
Oh Ariel.... If you want some The Little Mermaid videos I have you covered. Here's a playlist of 9 videos! ruclips.net/video/Yu2HrWLlrrY/видео.html Thanks for watching!
My one nitpick about this song is the line "if you want to cross a bridge, my sweet, you've got to pay the toll."
Why would the concept of a toll bridge exist on the ocean floor?
Didn't you!?!"
If one of my kids started going around a dangerous gang who was known to get its members or the people around them killed I would feel pretty desperate to protect them.
Great breakdown of the song, and images that go with it. Keep examining the songs, your outlooks really make the movies have *more* depth.
*Ursala:* This one's longing to be thinner, that one wants to get the girl, and do I help them? **snaps** _ad comes on_
Ursula big n sexy
Thanks for analyzing my favorite Disney song! This is awesome!
I absolutely love your videos man this was a fantastic break down of psychology.
I'm happy you enjoyed it!! Thanks for watching!
YES! YES! PLEASE MAKE THIS A NEW SERIES!! My suggestion for your next analysis is "Reflection" from Mulan!
OH MY GOODNESS YES! I love Mulan!!
This was a great new addition to your Discovering Disney episodes! I'd love for you to analyze Go The Distance or I Won't Say I'm In Love. Hercules is one of my favorites and these two songs are so well done. Great work, as always!
finally, another who sees it as selling your soul to the villain in H-E-Double hockey stick
I thought it was pretty obvious.
thank you
I definitely agree with you there Jonathan. It seems just like that! Thanks for watching!
Why thank you!
My favorite Disney song ever 😍💕
Whoa that's awesome! Glad I could go through this one for you Carlos! Thanks for watching!
Absolutely LOVE your analysis of Disney songs. Please keep doing it!!
Amazing breakdown. You added depth to the song that I didn't know was there. This will make a great new series.
This was an incredible analysis! I love it! Definitely do more! If you want to bridge to Pixar, maybe the music in Walle? That movie has so little dialogue that the music really picks up the communication to the audience about how the characters feel!
This is a super awesome song would totally love you to do more videos like this
Thank you for the support! I'm glad you enjoyed the new type of video! Thanks for watching!
Very good breakdown! Evan after so many times watching it, I still didn't notice all those details.
Love this song breakdown! Next you should do “Hellfire” from Hunchback of Notre Dame
Isaac you’re freaking awesome. Love your work! This was fantastic! More songs would be sweet!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate the support. More will be coming! Thanks for watching!
My favorite song is part of your world from The Little Mermaid and you have a magical day too
Ursula fans: She’s a strong independent woman that lives how she wants and stands against the status quo of being in a society that rejects her uniqueness.
The real Ursula: forces the independent Ariel into the silent, passive woman role because that’s expected of what’s on the surface as well as exploit her.
I absolutely loved this video! I would also love to see your analysis on Reflection & I won't say I'm in love, these songs have always been my top faves 😊
Please do more of this I love these
I love your Disney characters stuffed animals in your background. Muah xo
Same! I love having all of them in my dorm room. Make it feel so much more homey! Thanks for watching!
How did the "body language" thing make it passed the censors?
This guy knows what I need in my life
Ursula was completely upfront with Ariel.
6:28 Ursala is the best villian I love this line lol and the body language ha!
RIP Pat Carroll. The best Disney Villain of all time.
You did a great job make this a regular
This is awesome! I love disney music and this is an amazing video idea! Please make more :D
I think this will be a very interesting series of yours and I really like this idea.
make this a series!
Please do more of these! Also, please do a video about your thoughts about the first Ducktales season, and what you hope to see in season 2.
Pat Carroll does an amazing job!
