    This worked on my D16Y8. Previous owner/s pulled two of the threads, so the valve cover leaked at the corners. I used an OEM Tools kit from Autozone, however.

    Thanks man I can do this now instead of getting a new block

    ill be attempting this in the next few weeks after my car comes from the paint shop. noticed it leaking oil around the valve cover. we went to change the valve cover gasket to find out my left bolt is stripped on the valve cover. im pretty confident this is causing it slowly seep and leak oil out.

      Good luck!!! That definitely sounds like the cause of your leak though.

      Agreed! What I did was measure it, then I marked my tap bit with a black sharpie, but you probably can't see it in the video.

    • @thebudgettrackjunkie
      @thebudgettrackjunkie  3 года назад

      I believe so, should all be the same pitch. If you have a tap and die set you can easily measure, but I believe it is the same.

    I'm wondering.... do you need to drill out the entire thread length of the bolt or can you stop when you've drilled the length of the helicoil?

    • @AnthonyAlvior
      @AnthonyAlvior 3 года назад +1

      I'm sure you can get away with drilling the length of the helicoil, but i'd also think you'd want to get the helicoil in a little deeper than just flush with the surface? Personally I did what I felt was the length of the bolt. You can probably even stack helicoil inserts if you wanted the entire length with new threads?

  • @Kevin-wy8kc
    @Kevin-wy8kc 3 года назад +1

    couldnt you just use a 1/4 drill bit and whatever tap and take a,bolt notch it at the end to drive it in? Because i bought an assorted set with no install tool

    • @thebudgettrackjunkie
      @thebudgettrackjunkie  3 года назад

      You could probably do that, this is just the way I preferred because I wanted everything to be as oem and easy to work on in the future.

    What is a "tang" and what did it mean by "break of the tang"? Great video by the way. Thanks

    • @thebudgettrackjunkie
      @thebudgettrackjunkie  3 года назад

      When you look at the helicoil there is a a small piece of it that will need to be broken off once installed, it will automatically break off when you run a bolt through it after its installed into the newly tapped hole. That's just how that piece was described to me, i'm unsure if "tang" is the official term for it. Hope that helps!

    What size do I need for a 2001 civic ex 1.7 soch vtech

    • @thebudgettrackjunkie
      @thebudgettrackjunkie  4 года назад

      You might want to look at thread pitch specs of your valve cover bolts for your particular engine. I want to assume it's the same, but better to make sure.

    What size heli coil do i need for my 2002 honda civic ex cant find the specs anywhere

    • @thebudgettrackjunkie
      @thebudgettrackjunkie  Год назад

      I imagine all those SOHC valve covers were all interchangeable from 1992 to even 2002 but the easiest way to validate would be to pick up a tap and die kit and use the thread measurement tool to measure the pitch on your VC bolts. I'd be surprised if it wasn't the same heli coil size.

    • @thebudgettrackjunkie

    So I tried using en extractor because I over tighten that exact bolt and it broke. And the extractor didn’t really help and now I’m stuck with the bolt on the wall of the threads and the whole middle of the bolt is gone. What should I do? Please anything helps🙏🏽

    • @thebudgettrackjunkie
      @thebudgettrackjunkie  Год назад

      If the extractor didn't help, you may have to drill out the rest...but don't exceed the drill bit size needed for a proper thread insert...if possible.

    What about using a clear plastic cup and poke a hole through to capture the metal shavings...🤔 All 5 of my REAR valve cover bolts are stuck in there😭😭

    • @AnthonyAlvior
      @AnthonyAlvior 2 года назад

      I'm sorry to hear that man. But I don't think you want to poke all the way through. You might cause yourself other potential problems and leaks. Just my opinion.

    • @YoureWokeYoureBroke
      @YoureWokeYoureBroke Год назад

      That should work as long as you tape it similarly to how he taped the towel in this vid. I imagine it would be easier with the cup in harder to reach areas. Just might have to vacuum out the shavings from the cup before you pull it off or you’ll risk shavings falling back thru the hole when pulling it off

    Hey guys can this cause a rough idle for an 08 civic 2 stripped bolts.

    • @thebudgettrackjunkie
      @thebudgettrackjunkie  Год назад +1

      I'm not a certified technician or anything so don't take my word for it, but I believe that if the valve cover is not completely sealed due to stripped bolts it can potentially affect oil pressure and some oil loss that can possibly cause a rough idle.
