- Here's an update video about Sonic Re-Imagined! The upcoming moveset overhaul project I'm working on.
The things shown here focus on some of his ground attacks and some new aerial attacks. Along with two new taunts and different animations as well!
More updates waves like this will arrive in the future, so stay tuned for them!

Looks good so far but some animations could use some work like the idle and down taunt
All of the animations could use work. They’re pretty janky. It’s pretty jarring when Sonic transitions back into the much smoother official animations.
still a work in progress so it should improve down the line

Imma say this
Don't be afraid to break the body in certain anims to make 'em look good
What I mean is: squash and stretch, exaggerated poses, that slight boost in polishing
Take/observe other anims and use 'em as reference
These will help ya in the animating process

Definitely some good advice. Some great examples of this being used in the base game can be found in a lot of Wario's animations.
Instead of the “Come on!”, have him stare at his hand and go “Immm waaaiittiiinng” like he does in the cartoons. That would INFURIATE me seeing that in-game
that would be so annoying 💀

Sonic had so many moves in Sonic Battle. It’s amazing how they didn’t just use those for Smash.
Honestly, this looks pretty nice. I think the animations for his idle and taunts could use some work, but this is looking pretty great so far!

For his side special, it should be the ring catch from Sonic Battle. I think this will be a perfect move for your recreation!
Daaaaamn dude, i really like how this mod is looking. It makes me remember a little bit to smash crusade sonic or project m. Sonic was always my favorite videogame character, in or out of smash bros
I have a another suggestion, for his Stage Entrance Animation maybe he could hoop through a Ring Portal or Tails dropping him in via the Tornado like 64 Remix.

I would have his losing animation be him either tapping his foot or laying down in his impatient pose from Sonic 2. Feels more in tune. Then again I see the idea. He's saying "Shoot, not my day" in that pose.
Also how about for Modern Sonic's Dash attack, maybe a slide kick that could be easy to mix up from? Or one that can be springboarded into an up tilt? I feel like having two different Sonic styles (Drummond and Griffith) could allow for a cavalcade of possibilities. Endless Possibilities you could say.
I’m just glad you got the voices for the right models of Sonic. Jason will always be my favorite Sonic.
I think his idle animation should be his idle animation from Sonic Battle.
Allow me to share a couple of opinions:
- Your idea for the UAir is really creative. I thought of having this be his BAir;
- His dash attack should definitely be the Somersault, and the Windmill can be his FAir;
- You really didn't have to change his down taunt (and remove the blur on his feet, for that matter);
- His idle stance isn't very fluid. It feels like he's forced into that pose after finishing a ground attack and an idle animation;
- The Sonic Eagle could be a new up throw, instead: he tosses the opponent a short distance upwards, then immediately jumps and axe kicks them back into the ground, bouncing them up (I can already see this being kinda broken for edgeguarding).

Despite lack of polish in areas this looks a lot more like the actual sonic compared to what we got in ultimate
I prefer Sonics old running animation, I think his legs being a blurr circle looks better, and it fits sonic better imo
Loved seeing his basic combo end with top kick finally, that's awesome, this whole project is awesome, you're doing great work!
Results screen music made me happy. I haven't heard mario sports mix in years
Couple of criticisms, I'm aware the development of the animations isn't the same as the one's that made the actual game, but a way you can improve them is by changing Sonic's pose while doing them for example sonic while he doesn't have shoulder joints he shouldn't be able to keep the same posture when rotating his arm 360 degree, instead have Sonic's right arm cross his stomach with a closed fist and have him bend his elbow with a closed fist when rotating his arm in the taunt, it will look much more polished.
Second is his idle animation, it seems a bit stiff, look at his sonic smack down animation and see how there is a bit more spring in his step. You can also look to his sonic the fighters and sonic battle animations for examples too.
Small nitpick to his running animation, keep his hands open and maybe add some slight bounce in his quills, otherwise its fine.
great stuff man! love the rush references haha. i was thinking tho thst some of his moves could come from the Super Mario Bros Z animated series? I always loved his fight style there 😊
Only 200 subs? We cant let that slide. This mod looks pretty good outside of a couple choppy animations here and there. You deserve a lot more credit. Keep up the good work 👍

Am I seeing more hitstun for his old attacks too? Liking that.
I like how all the new attacks have the possibility of chaining into each other, which is good.
Some stretchy animation could go a long way too..

DUDE I JUST GOT MASSIVE NOSTALGIA FROM THAT RUN ANIMATION PLS ADD A VERSION WHERE HE AFTER IMAGE SHOWS UP MAYBE A SECOND AFTER RUNNING
I always love the adventure pose but I don't think it works in the up-air context. Maybe as a random chance pose during that move, or after the homing attack if that's here
I feel like something that would make sense if his attacks came from the 2 sonic fighting games he has

Love that crusade dash attack
This has given me the idea to make my own smash bros mod
Honestly I think the only major criticism I have with this is the idle and Advance 2 taunt. The feet make the idle look like he’s floating instead of mini jumping and the pupils on the taunt should face the camera better. Apart from all that I think this is spot on!
for a base; 1 phase work of sonic it's def. 20/10.

I like a lot of this but I'm not sure about that idle animation, I feel like the one he had to start was fine too.
His standing animation is very awkward looking. Honestly his base standing is perfectly fine in the smash series
To be fair, it's there as an option, as are his taunts, and I wanted to give him some personality. Though I updated it and now it's not as stiff as it looks. Trust me, you'll see the difference.
I think his dash attack should be his sweep kick thing from Sonic 06.
But just saying.
Id say also one of the main things in progress is his basic idil animation, cause while his legs are fine its just his arms that look a little stiff
animations needs some work, and I would recommend replacing the vanilla Sonic model with the Type G Sonic model, at least as an option. Otherwise, looks fine
You could install any model mod of your choice. Now if you mean this mod as a whole plus the Type-G, that's up to the author, but I would rather have people download his mod from there instead of hauling it over to mine.

A lot of the animations need a butt ton of polish but this is very good
Their was a mod I saw that had sonics win screen replaced by him running past and turning the stage clear sign where sonic would pop up again and give a thumbs up

This is awesome
The feet on the idle animation don't feel planted on the ground, they seem to be floating or as if he is standing on teetering ground which he clearly isn't. If his feet moved less he would likely seem more grounded and not feel as if he's floating slightly.
It would’ve been awesome if in the next Smash game if sonic, were to get a new move set, I mean, I’m getting bored of just sonic being a ball I mean, when can he finally use his beloved from sonic battle Eagle kick
Pretty sure i've seen the exact up air in Beyond Melee's Sonic.
How about we address his boring to watch special attacks and change those completely? Instead of his run animation which was perfectly fine already lol

Also, do you know if it’s possible to make a seperate version, keeping Roger Craig Smiths Sonic Voice,to me he sounds 1000 times better than Jason Griffith, but to each their own, if not it’d be completely alright
I like the fact that his idle is his sonic rush idle but I don't think it's suitable for a fighting game, maybe use his sonic battle idle?
Also side note BRING BACK HIS ROLL 😭
I have an idea for his side special. His side special could be a boost, since we got too many ball moves.
I suggest changing his d-air to be more like the stomp from the boost games, maybe he can fall faster than his opponents to give more risk on use off stage & combo potential

Hey, just wanna say that I love this mod so far with what I've in this video, and I just felt like i should ask if you would also like a Custom Sonic Voice Set for the mod so it wouldn't be all over the place with different actors. It's fine if not, just thought I'd ask cause it would also be cool to use my Sonic voice for a Mod for someone (I already have the voice lines set lol)

Idle needs a bit more bounce and polish. Otherwise it's not bad honselty. . . .
I have a question. If sonic's up air comes from the right, then why does the motion affects simulate his old scissor kick? And also, IF its supposed to be really quick and weak, the animation shouldn't have that arched back in the startup frames (which means hes about to use a really strong move )

The effects for his up-air weren't finished as of the video, so it used his old effects then. I've finished them now.
Also, for making the move itself was complicated, because originally it was going to be just a back-flip kind of move like in one of Lost World's trailers, which was going to be the strong kick, which is why the starting frames look like that. Just think of that as a few left-over frames I will get rid of. Even I was thinking about shortening that segment.

While the ideas you have for the custom moveset are good, you really don't seem to be that great of an animator - no offense whatsoever, but your skills just seem to be a bit... lackluster. If you want any help getting the animations to look better than this, I'd be willing to help you out.

Eh it be more fun if sonic had his wisps as his moveset, and at 80% he turns into the were-hog and have chip alongside as a counter, but this is still cool
