Google Pixel 6a Three Weeks Later - Still the HERO!

  • This is the Google Pixel 6a, but it's also NOT what I think many of us have come to expect..
    See, we’ve known this Pixel “a” series as the company’s most successful lineup ever, but it’s also more of a nod to the past. Just like the early days of the Pixel, the Nexus also started as a premium offering, only for things to not pan out, and for the company to shift strategies with the Nexus 4 in creating the world’s first flagship killer.
    In sort-of the same approach, the Pixel 3a was a genius move. Instead of only focusing on one phone, you could choose between flagship and mid-ranger, with the benefit that great photography became a Pixel trait across the board. It was pretty irresistible at just $399, but then Google kept experimenting. Over the next two years we saw all Pixels tip completely to become mid-rangers, but then this year, it seems the formula is now to go hard on defying the establishment.
    So sure, even if the Pixel 6a is a successor to every “a” variant we’ve seen before, it’s different because it’s not really a mid-ranger, and sure, I wouldn’t call it a flagship either. At a time when most heroes have lived long enough to become the villain, this phone is something else. I'm Jaime Rivera with Pocketnow and let's dive into our full review.

    I feel like the 6a is the android version of what the iPhone minis were for Apple. You get the same flagship experience with very few features missing for a more affordable price. I can’t believe most have gotten so hung up on the 60 hertz display they fail to see we got a great deal. We could’ve gotten a lesser processor or an LCD screen. I just ordered a 6a because for $480 with tax you won’t find a better sub $500 flagship device with few compromises.

      It’s the cancer of ppl listen to much to some reviewers that to hung up in stuff. 90 120 Herz not such a big deal. Have u ever considered an iPhone slow like the iPhone 13? No 60hrz screen feels fast. This phone as well. Then the one plus n20 is fast as well with a great screen. Now u take the a53 that is a total mess with the 120hrz screen u actually have to turn it off to 60 to make it less of choppy mess. Same for wireless charging. It is way more inefficient degrades batteries much much quicker. So I take a nice screen fluid phone over potential choppiness with 120hrz or wireless charging with smaller battery or loosing other more important features. Like wireless charging but then getting an lcd instead. So I think the 6a a great trade offs. Same as one plus did a much better job with the n20 it’s actually a real gem as well. Just u want get any great software support at all. Keep that in mind.

      We all used 60hz displays and never batted a eyelid over it until tech reviewers said we had to have 120hz I had a s21 ultra and now use a 6a and a iPhone se 5g and honestly it doesn't bother me one bit what the refresh rate is and I prefer the pixels stock android to the s21 ultras Samsung version

    • @djarthurlooby
      @djarthurlooby Год назад +1

      @@graeme66 using a pixel is a totally different experience. It feels the most refined android way. And if Google finally really is hardware wise also committed to it then I see great things in the future. The 7 is an improvement to the 6. But u can't go wrong with either. It's like iphone 12 to 13. Just a tiny increase with some more tricks and enhancements that where needed now google just needs to refine the phones each year also 3 years seems like a good upgrade level I mean 4 is great as Samsung does. But 3 is fine. Considering pixel phones are cheaper flagship phones. 3 years is a good time. I don't think the phone will go more then 3 4 years anyway before they need to be replaced. So it's all good.

      I come to the pixel 6a with blissful ignorance as I have never used a display higher than 60 hz, but I have to say, my experience is that it feels VERY fluid and responsive. I feel like the 6a is not really intended for people already used to upper end devices (if they can afford the flagships and such, why in the world would they downgrade?) but rather is intended for people like me, looking to step UP into a higher quality phone without paying $1000. I am extremely satisfied so far.

    Preordered this phone and am happy with it, Tensor definitely gets a bit toasty but less so on Android 13 beta and in pretty much all ways Android 13 is going to benefit this phone. Fingerprint sensor is faster though sometimes it seems to ignore me. Still, given I got $300 in trade for my 4a5G and free Pixel Buds A, this is a win of the highest order...

    Great video, thanks for keeping it real and focusing on real world use.
    I love my Pixel 6a and it's wonderful performance. The screen is excellent, screw all the misdirected hype about the "sub-par" 60hz refresh rate.
    People seem to want to compare a $900 phone with a $450 phone and then gripe about the differences. Duh, of course paying twice the money gets you better specs.
    However, most people buying this midrange are likely coming from another midrange with a similar 60hz refresh.
    I have used a 90hz display in the past, and for me it's not worth the battery drain.

      I had a flip 3 too.
      But the Pixel experience is unique and better than iOS and Samsung UI personally so I kept coming back to the Pixel.
      I went from Pixel 6 Pro -> Pixel 6 -> Pixel 5 -> and now Pixel 6a. I feel the Pixel 6a is the best among all of them and a reasonable size/good for money device.
      The 60hz screen doesn't bother me at all after using it for a few days. I even used the 120hz screen on the 6 Pro but 6a is not noticeably slow or as smooth as the 6 Pro. I think Google fixed a lot of minor issues over time as when I was using the 6 Pro and the 6 they had a lot of minor issues.

    What people are forgetting is that these phones were made for a specific audience--not tech reviewers and content creators. These people are not looking for wireless charging or a 120 refresh rate. And that was the same for the other a models. These are the people who will not be buying an iPhone, nor will they get the cheapest. Most people get a phone to make calls, text, watch content and snap a few pics. They're willing to spend a little more because they want the phone to last more than a year to 18 months. They'll see it at the carrier and pick it up as a special, etc.
    What they won't like is the missing charge brick--but Google wasn't the first to do that.

    Pixels would beat iPhone if;
    They just optimize the chip / apps
    Increase software support with just 1 year
    Ensure parts like battery and screen is available for replacement internationally

    • @andyH_England
      @andyH_England 2 года назад

      Google get to their price by cutting quality so they will never be as good as an iPhone. Google knows that they will not sell well if they price similar to iPhone or Galaxy S, so they use an old Exynos chip. Even Samsung have failed to optimise the Exynos and have killed it for at least two years. The Pixel 7 will have the Exynos 2200 which is very average and the worse of all 2022 flagship chips. So Pixel will still be struggling.

    Dang, the video recorded on the 6a is more than ok enough for social media posting. I'd even argue that you could get some pretty good home videos with this camera too. We have to keep things in perspective too, this is a phone. A phone that was consistently priced at $299 all through the holiday season. I've recorded some family videos with this phone over the holidays, and it's perfectly fine for sharing with family over RUclips.
