    Hi Aaron love those videos they are great I just have one question regarding the impeller installation, in the service manual they are stating that you turn the drive shaft clockwise when pushing the housing down while in your video@6:40 you are saying to turn it counter clockwise. As I understand drive shafts are always spinning clockwise even for counter rotation lower units so is this correct and do we only install the impeller while spinning clockwise or for counter rotation we spin counter clockwise. Thank you for clarifying.

    Thanks for another helpful video, Aaron. I put my lower unit back on today after the impeller replacement and noticed that I have a ticking sound from the LU when spinning the prop by hand. I think the LU moved slightly off of neutral at some point during the service. Is there a way to check or to put it back in neutral? I haven’t refilled the engine oil yet in case I have to remove the LU again.
    Thanks for your help.

    • @BornAgainBoating
      @BornAgainBoating  5 лет назад

      Hello Orlando, thank you! No, not really any way but to drop it down again and then realign the shift shaft. You are completely right, it's probably just off by one tooth!
      If you haven't refilled the oil it will be pretty easy. Another way to check for the shift shaft is to turn the key on once you get the lower unit up. Then you can shift it into reverse with just the key on and it will shift the engine into reverse.
      It won't shift it into forward but at least in reverse and back to neutral you will be able to know if it returns to neutral properly! Good luck and hope it goes well and quickly for you :)

    • @gascop69
      @gascop69 5 лет назад +1

      Thank you. I’m heading out there now to hopefully finish up.
      What if you completely lost track of what gear the LU is in? How would you re-sync it with the controls? I’m asking that Incase I have to start from scratch. Honestly, it’s probably not a bad idea at this point, since I don’t know how I ended up off of neutral.

    • @BornAgainBoating
      @BornAgainBoating  5 лет назад

      @@gascop69 Awesome! Good luck! Shouldn't take you long. Easiest way to find neutral for the engine is when the lower unit is off, just turn the key on and shift it into reverse, then back to neutral and it will self align everything and reset for you!
      Then for the lower, just use a pair of pliers and turn the shift shaft and then spin the prop shaft until you find neutral :)

Quick question at 0:48 you say that if you don't have water in you lower unit to leave the upper seals alone. Why? My first instinct would be to change all the seals as i am already there. Is this wrong? Also, what is the pressure tester that you use. I would like to purchase on. Thanks again.

      Thank you! On the seals, they design of the carriers have made the seals to last up into the 1,000's of hours, depending on use and age of course. So until they fail, you really don't need to change them :)

    Very helpful video I have twin 2008 300 verados after I did the water pumps they went back together with no problem started both engines when I use the starboard throttle control engine won’t go in gear when I push the single button lever they both go in gear any theories thanks

    • @BornAgainBoating
      @BornAgainBoating  5 лет назад

      Thank you! That's odd, if this happened right after you changed the impellers and put the lowers back on. I would say that the shift shaft is misaligned. Not sure why it goes in gear in the single lever mode, that's the weird part!
      In single lever mode they both shift forward and reverse without any issues?
      Normally before adding the oil and buttoning up the engines. You can put the key switch in the on position and then shift the engines into reverse and the shift actuator will engage reverse gear. That way you can check to make sure the shift shaft went into its slot properly. Then once you shift into gear and back to neutral, if it is off a tooth, you will know and hear the clutch clicking inside of the case.
      If the shaft is misaligned, you can do it quickly but if you keep the engine completely vertical without any trim, you can drop the lower and straighten the shift shaft out without having to remove the lower unit and drain out the oil. This is best with some help, because some oil will come out :|

And to be honest, we work in one of the worst salty places you could work in when it comes to corrosion and salt water issues. Carefully using an impact to pull the plugs out, after working for many years and pulling tens of thousands of spark plugs. Haven't had one that wouldn't come out with the impact, (On an outboard). So, is it really necessary? I'm not so convinced. Grease up all and every bolt on the lower, but anti-seize probably isn't necessary. The stuff I used when using it though was just the generic brand from NAPA.
