The Stanley cook set is made just that much better with the addition of a survival kit! Thank you so much for watching and please leave a comment in the section below!
I carry mine in a pathfinder pouch clone, couple of space blankets fit down the sides to pad it nicely, and the pocket at the front is a good size. I really should throw up a video to add to the myriad Stanley carry vids some day.
FOR WOUND CARE: You could add a small tube of Neosporin inside the kit. It would take some shifting around but I think it would fit. It would, of course, have to be the small/mini travel size tube. Having a wound, while out and about , is no fun and having an infected wound is even worse.
One other item if you need more would be a small spool of unwaxed dental floss. It is compact about 40 lb strength, and cheap I've used it for fishing, repairs, snares, and yes for sutures on big wounds. 😮 I do a lot of outdoor activities as a civilian, A N D as a Marines "Doc."
I cannot believe how many things you've been able to come up with. Must say, this is one of my favorites. Thank you for your efforts in this. I had a Stanley set-up already but these videos have helped me take it to the next level.
Stanley really needs to have you as an official partner. You have probably done more for the sales than anyone else! I say this in a good way Another awesome survival idea
I do believe I have mine with me coming from Ohio down here to Texas about 30 mins from my delivery in the morning then turn n burn back so this is so “food for thought”on my mind because I’m always thinking of little kit ideas while I’m driving. Helps pass the time plus you videos help relax me from the hectic day lol
Nice job on the survival tin. If it's in your cookset, then your cookset is part of the kit and you don't need the aluminum foil to boil water. Also, if you have a few extra bucks I would recommend the Leatherman Squirt PS4 instead of the Gerber. It's of comparable size and also offers scissors, pliers, a file and screwdriver blades. The pliers couild allow you to pick hot items out of the campfire.
The foil is so that the main kit can be left at camp with another person, while the small kit is placed in a pocket for rambling etc. Also, I always carry a multi-tool on my belt so I always have pliers etc. Thank you for watching!
You have some great ideas. I keep some instant coffee and cup-o-soup packets inside the green cup. Gives a bit of energy, and also a great morale boost.
That not a bad little emergency kit. Its not always what you have but knowing how to use it and this would certainly get you through the night and prevent hypothermia. Great video.
I just picked up an Adventure Cookset a couple days ago! I also decided to pick up the Stanley Boil and Brew the same day after I discovered that they can nest together with or without the brew insert! ( brew top will have to be separate but will all still fit in the condor style pouch. I also picked up a couple things for some mods and hacks today. Your hack videos for this set are second to none!! I hope to do one or two of my first RUclips Videos very soon and will be on this topic. Thank you for all you do for this channel!
Hi James. There is one item which can be added which is the plastic flint and striker wheel from some disposable lighters. This takes a standard lighter flint by unscrewing the plastic cap with spring which becomes a source of sparks. A good idea here is to look at the British SAS escape ration pouch or the BCB survival tin contained in a 50 gram tobacco tin.
Add that to the small shelter kit and you would be covered. Do enjoy your hacks James shows thought & ingenuity. Keeping eyes open as we see the use of items Hot chocolate & bullion fits in the green cup really well
Excellent little kit James. I have 2 tins similar to that, they had chocolate coated coffee beans in them. I was wondering what I could use them for...well now I wonder no more. It's going right into my Stanley Cook set.
Good one, James. Amazing what you can put in a small tin like that with a little thought. I have a couple of tins I need to measure. What an amazing cook kit. Thanks for all the ideas and videos about it.

I have the same little flashlight. Mine is branded UST SplashFlash. I bought mine to have when out in my kayak but it lives in my day pack clipped to the inside as an emergency light or just some light digging around the pack.
The amazon link is for very small tin containers, 1.3 in. Diameter. An icebreakers mints short round plastic container works but is not snug to the sides of the container and not waterproof. Also, a talenti icecream container fits inside with lid, to use for cold soaking (instead of the cup). Thanks for these videos!! I love the Sanley Cook set Hack Series!!!
Thank you. I will check the link and see if I can't find the right tin for it. Glad you're enjoying the videos! Edit: Here is the new link: www.amazon.com/Aluminum-Cosmetic-Container-Organization-Accessories/dp/B08GXGN451/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=screw+top+aluminum+tin&qid=1619870362&s=home-garden&sr=1-5
Good job I have a similar kit but it’s in the the condor pouch with another pouch hooked to it. This is the most compact I’ve seen. Thanks for some new ideas.
The best and, I believe, the intended way to use a pocket chain saw is to use a pliable stick to form a handle, much like a hacksaw. Try it this way and you'll begin to appreciate the saws a lot more. Just be sure to notch the stick where the keyrings will sit.
I keep my cook set in a Condor hydration pouch and there’s a bit of head space at the top of the pouch. A tin like that might fit in that space allowing you to carry both cups and the tin.
Wow! -incredible useful items in a very small pack. Still room for improvement: a) if you carry Exactor and utility blades, there's no need for a hacksaw blade as a striker for your ferro-rod - replace it by an alcohol wipe b) double up the mirror and drill a hole in the center to make it a true signal mirror c) after bending (flattening the pan) aluminium, don't forget to heat it up to soften it, or it will break when you try to open it up again d) wrapping sewing needles with duct-tape I always found very annoying, you don't get the residue off the needle in the field - so I first wrap the needles in a small piece of waxed paper Stay safe and take care
the survival tin idea is the main reason i wound up searching for a way to incorporate a way to boil water incorporated into it ...mostly because those altoid tins never provide a way to cary or boil water or cook lol ... whilke this total set wont fit in your pocket its a wonderful item for your car when not in your pack:)
Instead of carrying a wire saw, there might be enough room to roll up a bucksaw blade inside the tin. It does take some setup to use and you need a knife or something to make a bucksaw, but it'd be a supremely useful tool.
Love your presentations. Your tone, diction and projection make it very easy to follow your presentation. I love the minimal editing too. Just when I thought I had my Stanley cook set pimped out you add another option. Very comprehensive kit. Lots of comments about changing this or that and that’s great. I'm a new subs, Excellent Video! Definitely a home run! I would put in a small amount of Potassium permanganate. It takes very little to sanitize water and would go a lot further than the two H2O tabs you got. It will also be handy for it's first aid properties and fire starting.
James, I’m new to your channel, but it’s fast becoming my favorite! Just purchased two of the Stanley sets and they are awesome! Now, because of you, I have to purchase new gear, which means spending more money! And that means I’m either a dead man or I’m gonna be single again!!LOL! Joking aside, another great video and hack for the Stanley cook kit! Love the survival kit!! Thanks for the vid and another great idea!!
James...I've seen a few times those "solar stoves" where apparently if you lay it down, and put some dry tinder on it that apparently it's made at "the perfect angle" to where it will catch the suns rays, and combust the tinder into a flame. it seems like a good idea to have one for survival scenario's incase you run out of stuff to light a fire with, but it almost seems too good to be true. could you maybe do a short show, n tell in a video of theese, and tell the pro's, and cons of them... or if they even work at all?
The tins that the amazon link takes you are small for the pot, big for the cups. That being said, a pair of almond tins fits wonderfully if you leave out the green cups, while an empty 28 ounce peanut butter jar will fit in the pot to the rim. The pot lid will be held down by the handle, or you stow it at the bottom of the pouch or a pocket. I really like the peanut butter jar- two wraps with teflon tape and that is for all practical purposes water proof. A 16 oz peanut butter jar has an angle that will snug into the green cup, but not go all the way to the bottom and the combo is about an inch, inch and a quarter, too tall, so I think one of the little 120z jars should fit. It will have some gap between the jar and the inner wall of the green cup. Oh dear, I guess we'll just have to wrap a couple feet of duct tape around the jar. Whatever would we do with duct tape if we were in a real survival situation? :P
James, I wonder if one could fold an emergency blanket in such a way as to slip into the cup in the shape of a tube? Something ultra light to cover the body. Great video!
Yes, I'll have to look up that link and add it as well as the part number for the Gerber knife. Good idea on the toothpicks and Tylenol although you can easily make the toothpicks from wood if you need to.
