I would love to own a Rolex, but not for investment purposes but rather something I can wear because I love it and then pass it on to my future son/daughter. I guess there are different types of people who buy watches, for investment and the other, for enjoyment of wearing one. But yeah, I'd rather put all my money in my IRA. Different strokes for different folks and my priorities are on something else.

My track record for investments is horrible. Especially after loosing my FB, GOOG, APPL stock. I was thinking to invest in something like Vanguard Target Retirement 2050 Fund

Great points, J. Anthony. I don't view watches as an investment unless you are a watchmaker and can buy and refurbish broken collectible watches. However, if you love watches, there nothing wrong with smart buying.

My fiance and I just purchased the 2018 Rolex GMT Master ll Root-Beer for retail as my engagement watch and couldn't be happier. We're currently posting some reviews-videos while enjoying this timepiece. With that being said we absolutely don't ever plan on flipping the GMT as its become such an sentimental piece of art. On that note we really appreciate your shared knowledge and love for the watch community. Keep up the great content and have a great day!

If you're selling a Rolex privately chances are you're in a situation where you need money sooner rather than later. You'll be compelled to either sell to consignment, who will gouge you, or take a lowball offer because you need cash tomorrow, not a month from now when That One Guy sees your posting and buys without negotiating. A lot of the people willing and able to buy used Rolex online are very savvy. Just because a certain number is posted next to a watch on WUS or TRF etc doesn't mean it sold for that number.

Beware the “Rolex bubble”! If this bubble exists many will be disappointed and lose money. I don’t claim any expertise, but don’t see watches as a smart investment. I had one watch sell for a decent profit. It was “dumb luck”. Keep up the great videos!

I bought my 2004 black Submariner with date from a friend who need to sell it in 2009 and he made a good investment but I’m never selling it. It’s the only Rolex that I ever wanted and I never sell any of my watches. The last time I looked I was closing in on forty really nice watches all on automatic winders. I agree that the stainless Rolex models are the best way to go as precious metals fluctuate with commodities.

What about the datejust? I like the blue version a lot, but does it keep it's value over time you think? In other words should I buy it new or used?

stranno strannovasrr datejust41 blue is a great watch and IMO the most desirable datejust. That being said value retention is poor compared to steel sport models

Yes good advice. I see so many comments saying "you can't lose money on a Rolex". That's the same kind of advice that was going around about the housing market not too long ago. Thank you for talking some sense. I don't view watches as investments, but if you do Rolex is a solid purchase you can enjoy and if viewed as an investment, there is no need to lose sleep. But don't make the mistake that it's a guaranteed investment. No investment is without risk. That's why some financial advisors make a lot of money. Good video 👍

For the most part luxury watches are horrible 'investments'. Most, even Rolexes don't increase long term enough to even match inflation much less make enough to have been better than investing in securities, real estate, etc. What they do well in though, is holding enough value, that if you make good choices, you'll be able to sell down the road and get enough value out that the actual cost of ownership over that time is fairly low. You could easily buy some properly chosen high end watches, enjoy them for a year or two, and sell or trade and get some different watches to enjoy and have paid very little for the actual use of the watches. This is done with fine art and high end automobiles as well.

I always think “I’ll hardly use it and sell for profit”, truth is, I’ve worn them all, as and when, have no idea what they’re worth and just enjoy them. If I find I don’t use one, I may sell or part ex for something else.
I see it a little like the stock market or housing (my profession) you really don’t know what’s happening in 10 years.
    Just enjoy them

Obviously it only works when you actually do sell the watch.... and then you haven’t got the watch. This investment angle is lost on me as I’m not a flipper. I want new watches and keep them forever. They could half or double in value I’m not bothered.

    • @wincrasher2007
      @wincrasher2007 6 лет назад +1

exactly. a watch I love enough to part with $10k for is either going to get handed down to an heir, or go in my casket with me.

Heinseight is always 20/20, I wish I bought stuff 20 years ago when I could. I always believe buy what you will like and enjoy. If you buy for investment and just keep them in a safe, you don't get to enjoy them.

Can't afford them anyway. My kids don't want my watches besides. All they are going to get is the bill from the funeral home!
Happy and content with my 8 watch collection, all under $ 1,500 each. Told wife that if I go before her to sell them on mywatchmart and donate the proceeds to a certain K-9 charity I have in mind.

In the most part I enjoy your videos. They are very informative. But, this video you seem to be offbase and you keep repeating yourself. You could cut your time of your videos 25% to 50%. . You suggest buying a SS Rolex on the gray market and not getting new one at the AD. The gray market watches are much more expensive than the prices of a new Rolex at the AD.
